I don't know if it's the high expectations for him to be a lock down defender, but he definitely didn't feel like an A at perimeter defense. There is more nuance to the stats than the eye test i guess.

maybe it doesn't account for the blow-bys? just perimeter shots guarded?

Well everybody gives up blow-bys, even OG, it’s just you notice them more when you’re under a microscope like Scottie has been. But if you look at Scottie’s overall defence he does a great job and pushing offensive players out of their comfort zones, off ball he tags and recovers, he contests almost everything close to him, he sags to take away entry passes, he bumps cutters…just a lot of little things that most people don’t notice. So it’s not just about his one on one defence, which is above average against most players, but his team defence, particularly his ability to read actions away from the ball and kill them before the pass is even made, he’s very special in that regard.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

Re: Official Scottie All Star Barnes Thread 8
For months now BBall Index and NBA University has been telling us that Barnes is a top ten passer and top ten defender in the league…and also a way above average end of shot clock scorer. We also know he comes alive in fourth quarters. Maybe as a fanbase we should start believing and recognizing what we have here, which is a franchise player.

I'd rather watch Scottie and the Raptors tank than watch 99% of playoff games.

VV got superpowers after the birth of his child so I'm expecting a Barnes MVP season.

This is probably the most pivotal year for that class in determining player ceilings imo.
Barnes, Cade, Kumiga, Mobley, Green, Sengun all have big question marks on them.

I think Barnes/Cade/Mobley have much less vs Kuminga/Green/Sengun though. Their questions are, can they be true #1 options, for Mobley it's almost certainly a no, the other 2 remains to be seen.

Props TZ!

With Barnes it's can he regularly create his own shot off the perimeter at a league average efficiency.
With Cade it's can he score at the basket at a near 70% rate. (even last year it was only 60%)
With Mobley it's can he create his own offense.
Sengun has been very consistent, he's going to become an All Star, his ceiling though is relied on his 3 point shot. (he'd need to become Jokic good otherwise)
Kuminga and Green are wild cards, though I trust Kuminga much more.

Overall I agree, but I think I'd trust green more than Kuminga. Green has been on a trash team and expected to be a driving force, kuminga has been on a stacked team and still I don't think has shown enough.

Props TZ!
