Would you say that Carmelo Anthony is pretty nig-gardly when it comes to passing the ball?

It's not racist ! Look below:

nig·gard·ly
   [nig-erd-lee] Show IPA
adjective
1.
reluctant to give or spend; stingy; miserly.
2.
meanly or ungenerously small or scanty: a **** tip to a waiter.

It was probably done purposely so the Linsanity /webtraffic to ESPN stays at an all-time high for at least another few days

It's like referring to Harrison Barnes as a "Tar Heel Baby".

Racist? Yes.
Intentional? Probably, the writer thought he was being clever and edgy.
A super-huge deal? Not really.

It should be enough for ESPN to apologize and fire the guy who wrote the headline. Not a big deal for ESPN, there's lots of journalism majors at the unemployment office they can replace the fired guy with.

Monkey is a word too, an animal, no racal connotation.

So what's the big deal with Costco pulling black dolls depicted as Lil Monkey? People are so sensitive.

And banana is a word too, a nutritious food, no racial connotation.

So what's the big deal about throwing things on the ice at a hockey game? People are so sensitive.

You both would agree, right?

Ok, seriously, but where do you guys live where "chink in the armor" is a common phrase?

I can't remember it ever being brought up in casual conversation in my life, although I have heard it to describe sports teams when a key player gets injured...but even than its not that common.

Maybe its another crazy East coast thing? Like wicked,

If you don't know the difference between racially abusing someone and saying a common phrase then I don't know what to say.

If I called Jeremy Lin "Yellow Mamba" would you be offended?

Why people are so sensitive? I'll give you an idiom. Give him an inch and he'll take a mile.

Using the C-word is as equally offensive as calling a black person the N-word. Period!

The writer and editor should be fired.

ESPN would have some cover if they also used the phrase in situations not involving Chinese people. Because between Lin and the Beijing Olympics, it looks like they only use the word "chink" when referencing something Chinese.

Even then, Howard Cosell got in trouble for calling a black player a "little monkey", even though he had previously used the word "monkey" to refer to white players.

Chick Hearn got in trouble for implying a black player was a monkey. When Bo Outlaw hung from the rim after a dunk, Chick said he was "hanging up there long enough to eat a banana."

Heck, the Clippers announcers got suspended for saying Hamed Haddadi looked like Borat, and mis-pronouncing "Iran".

Of course it's intentional. It's also offensiVe and stupid. No two ways about it.
