Did the Nets WIN the Finals that year? If not, then they weren't "The Best Team In The World."
You are right.
The funny thing is Knicks win Atlantic after how many years, get bounced out of 2nd Round and you guys think Knicks are better then what everyone else thinks but Knicks are being disrespected by media and world.
And how many members of the media predicted them to win the atlantic last year?
To be fair, the Celtics went to the ECF that year after stealing the Division away from Philly and the knicks after coasting from an 8th seed to 4th. The Knicks came off a 7th seed/1st round exit in the full year of their new Big 3. The Cs added Courtney Lee, Terry and a few others. On paper, the Celtics looked better and when KG/PP and Doc are still on a title chase the benefit of the doubt will go to the team with the resume.
The reason why the Nets are getting favored is simply because they underachived. Players complaining about minutes and dogging it in the playoffs. Literally, our core three were the only non conplainers on the team and somehow they still finished tied for 3rd in the East. And if you didn't know, those ex Nets are already causing issues in Boston. The inner media knows this, which is why the Nets get praise or people feel it will occur again.
You get rid of the losers and cancers and replace them with unselfish winners and instantly you will get respect. There is a reason why guys like Duncan, KG, Pierce, Parker never get disrespected in peojections. Their body of work proves them wrong.
I will say that the media had more to cover in 2011 when the Knicks had the locker room issues. Sadly, they do want to see that but in terms of GMs or commentators they see things from a basketball perspective, not so much from a 'I want this team to fail' perspective.
