Pass on Chandler and Gallo. Mozgov is a maybe, though I would prefer a deal for someone with the potential to start for the club one day(Henson?). Faried is a maybe, but he's a tough player to fit. He provides a ton of rebounding, but poor defense and average offense. He can't shoot, so with him and Val, there would be poor spacing. Also, the asking price for him may be rather high, for a guy who can't defend or spread the floor.

this is ideal add in pick this year ..but not gonna happen.CrymeTime wrote:I wonder if expiring would entice them.
Affalo, McGee
For
Hansborough, Fields, Hayes
Saves them $3M now, and $15M comes off the books at the end of the year.

"We don't have a guy on the roster we'd have to heavily incentivize to move."
Connelly was just saying he has no really bad contracts. "Heavily" is a funny word, though. He knows he'd have to sweeten some deals to a degree.

Now is NOT the time to swing for the fences. We have a really good, young team that is growing but there is zero need to reach. Hickson addresses a need and would likely require us to give up almost zero assets.

Re: Nuggets planning a firesale?
There just aren't enough minutes to take on Affalo, Gallo or Mozgov. Well, if you get rid of Hayes and Handsbro (will miss the occasional WWF moves ) , then you go for it. I would be in favor of:
JV getting 28-30 min ( doubtful with Casey ) and Mozgov getting 18-20.
PP and Amir 24 a pop
Ross 27 and JJ 21 ( Although, I'd like JJ to find a way to get more minutes)
DD -31 and Lou 17
KLO- 31 and GV 17
We can't afford to give any more minutes to anyone else from Denver or any other team.

I can only hope your GM feels the same way, as I'd hate to see Jonas or Ross traded for any of the hot garbage that has helped the team to a 3-7 start.

Nope. Even if we give up our pick, do not give away the NY/Denver swap. That should be a lottery pick.
EDIT: My bad.... I thought we had their 2015 pick swap not 2016.

The Knicks have a tonne of cap space lined up for this upcoming summer. If they can land say, Marc Gasol and Goran Dragic, they'll be good .500+ in 2015/2016. If they strike out, Raps will be pretty much guaranteed a top-10 pick.
Yep. Was going to write the same thing.
I don't think players would want to go to New York though. Derek Fisher as a coach, Carmello's ball hoggingness, Jr Smith's antic's.
Plus I think the Knicks will wait for a premium player to hit free agency. Marc Gasol and Dragic would be nice on their roster though.
IF they strike out in free agency, oh baby...
So we don't get the Knicks pick this year if its in the top 10? Whats the condition of this pick?

We get the worse pick between Nuggets or Knicks. So if Knicks have a better pick we get the nuggets.

Things can change, but I am still not sold on the thought of the Knicks being able to recruit stars. They may be able to get a team into the playoffs but I strongly doubt guys want to go there when they have a choice. Pulling this out of the air, and it isn't like they have a track record of being able to bring guys in.
We get the worst of 2 picks in 2016.

Re: Nuggets planning a firesale?
Just some dollar store psychology here, but I'm betting that Connelly will only try to make deals that he believes will improve his team right now. He is getting tons of bad press at the moment, and blowing his team up for tanking assets would probably seal his fate as a general manager.
That doesn't mean that he isn't going to make a move, or that the moves he does make are going to be good, but I'd expect him to make a Colangelo-esque attempt to grab a vet, rather than a blow-it-all-up for scraps move.

Mozgov is 28 and is pretty darn good. Casey wouldn't play him as a backup. Jonas would average 15-20mpg.

Re: Nuggets planning a firesale?
For those wanting Faried, just know that his defensive stats this season do not show an improvement compared to the rest of his career. They are bad.
According to NBA.com player tracking data, Faried's man shoots a higher percentage when covered by Kenneth, than they normally would. This is true from every distance.
From within 6 feet, his man shoots 5.4 percent higher than normal.
From 6-10 feet, 1.3 percent (this is his best range)
15 feet to the three point line, 8.3percent better.
And from beyond the three point line, 9.2 percent.
Faried brings energy and rebounding, but gives up a lot on the defensive end. Jonas has shown that he currently needs a defensive presence beside him to be most effective. Faried is not that man.

Re: Nuggets planning a firesale?
Well, we all saw this coming. It was only a matter of time. Just two things quickly:
1. If Denver really is planning a firesale, that means they'll be rebuilding. Which in turn means that their young guys are off the market. So Nurkic, Harris, Lawson and Faried will not made available since that is counterproductive to rebuilding.
2. We shouldn't be taking on any long term contracts from Denver at this point. So no MvGee and no Gallo. Both of them are negative value deals that don't play up to their contract. Gallo is coming off of a very serious injury and hasn't really played in two years and McGee is just a cap clogger. Denver already said they wouldn't be adding major incentive to move any of their deals so we need to avoid guys like this.
So aside from the pieces we would want that they obviously won't trade, I like Mozgov and Chandler. Both are short term, inexpensive deals/players that can come in and play a roll for us. As sellers AND the fact that most of their guys have been under performing, they will dealing from a place of disadvantage. We really need a back up C and some depth at the SF spot. If we get Chandler, at worst, he's better than JJ (who looks like he'll be out for a while) and at best, he could start for us if Ross is going to be used off the bench. He shouldn't cost more than Fields and maybe a pair of seconds.
Lastly, we shouldn't even be talking about the NY 2016 1st unless we're bringing in a bonafide star. Right now, with this potential firesale in Denver, if NY strikes out in FA, that's a top 10 pick. It's one of our best assets so we need to use it wisely.

Re: Nuggets planning a firesale?
I think Gallinari is a guy to watch. He's healthy apparently, but he's having a really hard time getting it going this season, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that Shaw doesn't have trust in him. Also, the Nuggets have way too many capable wings - they have youth that they're not developing because there's a glut. I think he could come pretty cheap, just for the sake of maximizing their other assets.
I know he's getting like $10-11 million per year, but it's only for this season and next, then he comes off the books when there's the great free agent class in 2016.
I think his size and shooting would be a great compliment to our starting core. He's also in the age range of Lowry/DeRozan.
With that said, I wouldn't give up significant assets to get him... if he comes cheap, he'd be a nice addition. Maybe some expiring contracts and one of our own future first rounders with protection.

Keep a eye out on Gallinari i or Mosgov on the cheap.
Otherwise sit back, and watch us earn a top 5 lottery pick while hitting the post season. How is it that the Bargs trade looks better by the day?

Agree with your point about he Knicks/Nuggets pick. I feel that way about picks in general. Don't give up first rounders unless it's for a major talent upgrade. Even this year's late first, while not seemingly too valuable, shouldn't be dealt carelessly. Guys like Vazquez, Williams, Hans and JJ are rotation guys on short term deals. We may need a replacement for one or more of them in the not so distant future. Would rather develop some prospects on cheap late first round deals, than go after free-agents all the time.
