I dunno, they MIGHT make the playoffs.

Drummond and RJ are fantastic pieces. Both could end up making the all star team this season.

However, the rest of the pieces are not that great, regardless of fit or not.

Illyasova, meeks, kcp, morris, jennings would all be average to below average starters in the nba.
Don't know how anyone can look at a supporting group like that and actually say it is a good one.

Stanley johnson I like, but he is a rookie mid-lotto pick. Unless he comes out playing like a rookie melo, I don't see him tipping the scales towards playoff contention.

Well, that's certainly not going to happen, because he doesn't play anything like Melo. Stanimal's style is much more physical, but he can't shoot like Carmelo can. He does try on defense, though, so he's got that going for him.

Rookies can only do so much unless the team is completely devoid of talent. The Pistons have, at the minimum, league-average talent. What they don't have is experience among the key players or any kind of cohesion as a unit. That's SVG's job, and I suspect he'll make some serious progress in that regard this year. No more brain dead forward, no more leading scorer that plays differently than everyone else on the team.

Some have said this already, but the key will be the defense, from Drummond in particular. I don't know how that's going to go, and that's what gives this team a 30-50 win range.

I do think the Pistons will improve this year. But as far as making the playoffs goes I think the east is just too crowded with teams good enough to grab the 3-8 spots. I think it will be the

1)cavs 2)bulls 3) hawks 4)bucks 5)celtics 6)wiz 7)heat 8) raptors with the magic and pistons just falling short. But I think they are certainly trending upwards

They were the 7th seed last year and improved or added talent or depth at every position. They are absolutely better this year so I don't see why 5th seed is so unreasonable, especially given that they actively tanked the first half of the season and still ended up with the 7th seed.

Detroit is going to be up there imo over the Raptors and Wizards. Far as it goes for fit, getting rid of Monroe was huge boost. That is the one guy who I thought held back their on court chemistry. I think they get the 4th or 5th seed in East.

I think only CLE and ATL are locks. CLE for sure. ATL won't reach 60 wins but 50+ still likely. Since it's zero sum, if BOS, IND, MIA, MIL & DET improves, then others like CHI and TOR must take a step back. This means a bunching up with many teams winning 40-something. It's going to be a tight spread between 3-8 seeds in the East, with 9-10 close behind so no locks beyond CLE and ATL.

Toronto improved in free agency they got Carroll, Cory Joseph, Biz & Scola plus Wright and Powell ( 1st team in summer league) in the draft .
Major loss Amir Johnson his ankles are made of glass, Lou Williams 6th man of the year liked him but not a major loss.

Team is much deeper loss of Amir hurts but Scola had equal numbers and is a iron man.

PG Lowry, Joseph, Wright
SG DeMar, Ross, Powell
SF Carroll, J. Johnson. Caboclo
PF Patterson, Scola
C Jonas, Biyombo, Nogueira

Last Year
PG Lowry, Vasquez
SG DeMar, Lou Williams
SF Ross, J, Johnson, Fields, Caboclo
PF Amir, Patterson, Hansbrough, Hayes
C Jonas, Stiemsma, Nogueira

I think Milwaukee is lock tbh. Healthy Monroe-Giannis and Parker is too much talent to keep out of playoffs. Kidd is top 10 coach in league

I think losing Williams and Amir will hurt more than you think, I also don't anticipate Carroll trending upward in a Derozan/Lowry ISO centric offence.

A New York Knic shouldn't be talking about teams being in the top 3 or top 5 lottery. You guys are gonna be in the top 5 of the lottery for the next 5 or 6 years. Pistons have way more talent than you and no one under 45 remembers the Knicks last championship!

I guess a Knicks fan would know. Detroit hasn't had a top five pick since '03, and that wasn't even ours.

Giannis is obviously a very nice potential piece and hopefully he takes a step forward this year but right now he is average.
Parker will not start the year and he is essentially a rookie and it is unusual for a rookie to contribute greatly in the 1st year.
Middleton is likely the top player as of now.
Monroe is a adequate C but not a game changer.
PG is a mess
But yes likely a favorite for for a play-off

Well as long as SVG drafts a Euro with that top 5 pick and compares him to Shawn Bradley, the Pistons may move out of top 5 pick range in 2017 right? :noway:

Shut up.

To be fair they had the best record in the east other than cleveland post all star break. and that included beating some top western conference teams

Giannis will progress this year, he has progressed from Y1 to Y2.
Parker techinally maybe a rookie but he has played NBA Games so hes more advanced than avg rookie. Also Parker has NBA ready game so he should contribute offensively.
Monroe is better than adequate, he isnt a star but still solid player, gives you 16 and 10.
I think MCW will also progress, I know a lot of people are down on him but I think he'll play like Top 10-15 PG next year.

I really do believe that they're going to have a great season.

There roster is extremely well balanced now, and I like SVG as coach.

I think they'll end up a low seeded playoff team... the question is, where do they go from there to avoid the treadmill? They're going to need more star power than they have.
