Horny said he gave them no instructions on how to defend..just said go play...so uh..I guess it can only get better?

Chauncey Billups agrees that the Knicks aren't a playoff team: "They're not deep enough. And they have a very bad system - the triangle."

Playoff team = yes
Triangle = I still hate it

This team is not built for today's NBA. On most nights this team will be run out of the floor.

So apparently the team didn't get a scouting report because Hornacek just wanted them to just go out and play. Interesting.

You know, I think this makes it even worse. No team with Lee and KP in the starting lineup should give up 130 points on 53.7% shooting (47.6% from the 3-point line). The lack of awareness and trust on the defensive end was pretty clear. Moreover, these are issues that take lots of repetitive work--and lots of time--to fix.

Was there any mention of just when Horny was going to have "the talk" about how to defend?

SMAC-K wrote:How do you guys think Rose did running point? I think he was magnificent especially when he got loose in the 2nd half. He was making beautiful reads and hitting guys with laser passes, making excellent cross court passes to the corner shooters, wasn't ignoring KP or Melo and made sure they both got the ball in their sweet spots. KP went off in the 3rd but Rose assisted him on almost every shot. Love the chemistry between those two already.

As an orchestrator he was adequate and will get better. Speed is still there, once this court crap is over I think we may see an Allstar level player. Chauncey Bilups seems to think so. :D On a related note, Jennings looked really good for spurts. It was weird seeing those bullet passes and penetrating drives .... a good "weird" no doubt. He is damned fast as well.

Right now I'm liking a bunch of our rookies.
Randle, Kuz, and Kp's buddy have real talent on the offensive side of the ball. It make take then some time to mature....
I finally see Plumlee's potential as well. He's got quite the motor on him and is quite strong, looks like a good to very good lunch pail player , not a scrub.

Melo played in a vacuum ,but I think he will rechannel DAD/Olympic Melo after getting more repps in with his teammates.
KOQ- I say we should trade him while he still has value ...We could uses a dead eye shooter..
Lance Thomas was pretty bad tonight....but he'll be ok once he decides to move away from playing like he's Rudy Gay - and move towards playing like Bruce Bowen again.

Houston isnt as good as they looked tonight but they have do have the advantage of knowing how they want to play.
We also need to establish what we are going to do early since teams will be looking to take advantage of our lack of familiarity with each other.

Noah is hugely important to this team, I think his absence was felt tonight. We sure as hell need his leadership on the floor.

kp helped off ryan anderson way too much. this should have been dealt with but it got out of hand instead.

I'm hoping it's so he can see where they lack and where they excel defensively. I don't know. I also assume it's different without Noah. Rust. Whatever.

FIX IT!

The defense is awful and the offense looked like the same tired Triangle garbage Phil has been forcing in this franchise.

But it's only game 1 of the preseason. A lot of slack needs to be cut.

The thread title though will probably be very common this season.

I think it's pretty smart. When training new folks, I find it's better to let them get their feet wet with the tools and documents, just to feel their way through it. Then the next day I'll give them some training on it.

I find that when you give structured training AFTER letting them fumble around with it, the training sticks better. Otherwise, the training is just bland and nobody listens because they don't have that personal experience with it.

Obviously, this is different because it's the NBA and they should know how to play defense, but I think he just wanted to see what their instincts were before he started correcting anything.

KP also seemed to be more assertive about where to be. Can see the game is not moving as fast for him.

Horny can't give no instruction on D. Screw that Mike D'Antoni approach.

N dour and plumlee impressed me the most tonight with their high level energy and hustle. I think plumlee makes the team. Baker did not do much and Randle helped himself.
