Re: Draft day open thread and Offseason Rumors
The posturing about Doncic at 3 and now the reports that teams want to trade up, if I'm Sac and I'm not taking him I'm trading down.
But I think we see them stay the course at #2 and then Atlanta gets to reap the benefits. One of the more interesting top of the drafts in recent years.

That's always been the thing that strikes me as the hardest for GM's on draft day, let's say you are the Kings and you want Bagley but you know you can get good assets from a team that wants Doncic, how do you go about it? the Hawks and Grizzlies are also trying to gauge the value of trading down, so they're not gonna be the ones trading up with you, what if you trade with Dallas or Orlando but Bagley is gone by the time you get to pick at #5? I'd be incredibly stressed if I was an NBA executive today, too many moving parts and random things that can greatly affect the long term future of your team.
Givony has them taking Doncic in the latest mock btw, and last year they nailed the top 10.

Yeah, if you have Bagley as your guy you need to not get too cute. But I wouldn't have Bagley as that differentiated (based off what I have read).

Re: Draft day open thread and Offseason Rumors
I could definitely see ATL holding an auction for pick 3 and if SAC is smart gouging the loser of that auction to jump to 2.

problem is how will they know? because that deal with Atlanta only get executed if Doncic doesn't get taken at 2. And if a team was the loser bid to get to 3 why would they then increase it for the Kings? Because its about the player not the slot so they should have made their max bad to the Hawks already.
Either way I hope Dallas makes a serious offer to the Kings for Doncic. And I think Bagley gets back to 5 unless the Hawks just want to sell tickets---which admittedly is always a concern there. But Trae Young probably sells even more tickets.

My sources tell me that a lot of rumors will come up today and some of them possibly might be close to true, unless they are not.

I think we all need to re-watch the movie Draft Day to get a feel for what it is like inside a draft.

The Hawks might have preliminary talks, but nothing would be finalized until after 2.

What an awful film lol.
Yeah that all makes sense to me. I could see a team thinking they made their top bid but willing to go farther once they lose out. Of course, they would have to know that they lost out etc.

Risky business drafting a player you don't want. Hawks might be happy with Bagley.

Who are you implying would be taking a player they don't want?

Re: Draft day open thread and Offseason Rumors
The Kings deciding between Bagley and Porter Jr is such a Kings thing to do. Both players are likely busts imo.

Maybe I'm just more tuned in this time around, but everyone seemingly has this take about one group or another of the top 7 prospects.

Re: Draft day open thread and Offseason Rumors
As said in GB:
I absolutely buy the Kings latest rumor (deciding between MPJ and Bagley). I expect that they were one of the teams aggressively talking down Porter's medicals, which is really the only thing keeping him from being a top 3 pick in this draft. Dont buy this new Doncic love - they were trying to trade down from the jump (Porter) and Doncic never dropped below a top 4 pick. Neither Grizz nor Hawks were gonna trade up. So the Doncic stuff is just posturing so they can land in the 5/6 range where they hope Porter is.
With no trades:
1) Ayton
2) Porter
3) Doncic
4) Bagley
5) Bamba
6) Trae
7) JJ Jr.
Is my best guess for top 7.

Sac taking Donic to trade try to trade him as an asset.

It's either that or Vlade is putting up fantastic smoke.
