They aren't getting Kawhi.

This is them conceeding.

No, it isn't. They still have like 40+ mill in cap left dude.

Kawhi is not coming to play with Lou Williams and Pat Bev dude. He wants to play with another star. That is a fact.

You said your free agency was a failure in another thread not long ago.

Not sure if serious...they still have money for 1 max contract.

Disaster for who?
Maybe Kawhi surprises everyone and signs with the Clippers. I bet he'd love to play with Pat Beverley.
Maybe they could sign a Demarcus Cousins and/or Danny Green, too?
I think that team would be a contender, and Kawhi would be "The Man" on that team.
Plus they'd be sitting on a bunch of assets at the deadline when who knows what will become available (KAT?).

Seriously? How?

Bevery is the domino that needed to fall in order for the Clippers to make their free agency mark towards Leonard and thus the beginning of their dynasty. Beverly was the key, don't u know?

Oh okay. Lol.

Even prior to free agency... I didn't have Kawhi coming. Doesn't mean THEY as a team have conceded. If they do concede, this particularly signing wouldn't affect it financially. Also Clippers are very unlikely to get Kawhi at this point, but it's incredibly ignorant when people sum up the 48 win Clippers in these terms. What made them so good last year was they have like 10 above average to really good players. To sum them up as a couple players tells me you have a poor understanding of why they are a really good team. Nobody is coming to play with Lou and Bev (not even our best players). They would come to play with the really good overall team.

I think they have to move Gallinari to create the max slot.

No, they don't really. Kawhi can only get like 33 mill.Clips had 55 mill in cap space prior to this.

They still have plenty of room to sign Kawhi - about $42M and that includes the cap hold for Zubac (assuming ya'll want him back). Still would have about $10M to spend in free agency plus the room MLE.

can you explain why this signifies the opposite ?

Clippers still have a max slot, the pitch to Kawhi is he will be joining a 48 win team that pushed the healthy Warriors to 6. A team who can afford to manage his playing time while still making the playoffs, bringing back a key piece of that team is essential to selling Kawhi on the vision.

but you said this guarantees Kawhi... So that's it? Same team? So your pitch is literally the Raptors pitch but worse.

Your pitch was based off of getting Kawhi and someone else. Not Kawhi and the same exact team. For the same exact team, he's running it back on a 1+1

As a Raps fan who followed the team and Kawhi over the course of this past season, I'd be really surprised if he went to the Lakers.

Laker fans, even without Kawhi and Danny you still have plenty of role player options to fill out your team. Cousins, Curry, Morris bros, Green, Ellington, Jerebko, Chandler, Korkmaz, Matthews, Rivers, Kanter, etc. Not to mention JR Smith and Melo

Clips likely keep Zubac for sure. Especially because now their odds at a big fish are almost zero. Nothing to lose retaining him as cheap as possible and hoping he becomes a great backup big.

Up-And-Coming wrote:Ya imo this doesn’t stop Kawhi from joining the Clips, but limits the Lakers backup options. I still like Seth Curry and Danny Green (although he probably follows Kawhi) and Kanter as a backup is good imo. McGee for the most part would be great to return (he sucks at rebounding and post defense but AD should help with that) and KCP is solid if it’s for the right price. Trade for Dragic? Maybe run it back with Rondo again??!

If the Lakers strike out on Kawhi I think absorbing Dragic's expiring $19 million contract is probably the next best option.
You're going to need someone who can at least competently handle the ball and feed Davis for the regular season, to give Lebron some opportunity to rest. Plus it allows Lakers to go back out into free agency next year.

This to me is just another signal Kawhi is joining the Lakers.

Beverly knows the Lakers aren't splitting up the money

it could also be that even if they were splitting the money, they wouldn't be able to get him more than 3/40. they got a LOT of spots to fill.

I agree this doesn’t signal that the Clips are out of the race, although I think it would be a mistake for them to sign Cousins. A team with Beverly, Lou, Kawhi, Gallinari, Harrell and say Danny Green is solid and may or may not be a contender but they forsure would be a top 5 team in the west imo and if you have a top 3 player on your team you have a shot

Cousins is a HELL NO from me. He just doesn't add anything. Much rather run Harrell 30 minutes a game and give Kabengele 10 minutes a game. Also Zubac can be the main backup 5 and spot start.

There aren't two max guys left in the free agent pool. It's just Kawhi and a bunch of role players
