ESPN put out its list of the Top 100 players in MLB:

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28839375/espn-mlb-rank-100-1-baseball-top-players-2020#10

Brewers have four on that list: Hiura (98), Woodruff (96), Hader (36), Yelich (4, behind deGrom, Cole, and Trout)

By comparison, the Cubs have five: Darvish (80), Contreras (70), Rizzo (56), Bryant (24), Baez (21)
Cardinals have three: DeJong (92), Goldschmidt (64), Flaherty (22)
Reds have three: Bauer (88), Suarez (61), Castillo (55)
Pirates have one: Bell (73)

Anyone want to provide some general observations about how the team looks so far this spring? Anyone surprising you? Anyone disappointing you?

Phil Bickford has looked solid. I don't know about his secondary stuff, but he's got a live fastball. Burnes has been really good. Hiura and Arcia have been hitting bombs.

Logan Morrison is crushing it also. Spring training so you can't really take anything away from much of this. Who knows what the pitchers are working on.

With Spring Training officially cancelled, I'm just going to turn this into our regular Brewers news thread.

This along with expanded rosters would seem to be a good thing for the Brewers if they actually play this season.

I'd rather they just eliminate the DH altogether, but my second choice is if they adopted it leaguewide.

Cool. I like this pick.

From Baseball America's draft rankings...

6. Garrett Mitchell
UCLA OF
Notes:
Ht: 6-3 | Wt: 204 | B-T: L-R
Commit/Drafted: Athletics '17 (14)
Age At Draft: 21.8

Scouts eyed Mitchell as a potential first-round pick at Orange (Calif.) Lutheran High, but a middling senior season and concerns about his Type 1 diabetes caused him to fall to the 14th round, where the A's picked him. He opted for UCLA and became a three-year starter for the Bruins. After struggling as a freshman, Mitchell led the nation in triples during a breakout sophomore season and continued to raise his stock as a junior. He was batting .355/.425/.484 this spring when the season shut down. Mitchell possesses arguably the best package of tools in the 2020 draft. He's an 80-grade runner who changes games with his speed, is a plus defensive center fielder who effortlessly glides to balls and has a rifle for an arm. Mitchell shows massive, plus-plus raw power in batting practice, but his choppy swing produces mostly grounders and low line drives in games. His natural feel for contact gives him a chance to be an above-average or better hitter, and his natural speed and elite times out of the box should help inflate his batting average. Some evaluators are optimistic Mitchell can tap into his power with swing refinements in pro ball, but his in-game power production is concerning dating back to his high school career. Mitchell’s speed helps him to beat out infield singles and amass lots of doubles and triples, making him an offensive difference-maker even absent home run power. Mitchell has faced health and endurance concerns because of his diabetes throughout his career, but he played 62 of 63 games for UCLA in 2019 and all 15 games in 2020 before the season shut down. With a high probability to hit for average, steal bases and stay in center field, and the possibility of adding power, Mitchell is a top-10 talent, though his question marks make him a bit more polarizing than the other players around him.

Pitcher at bats are awful to watch, it also results in a bunch of double switches and stoppage of play. And selfishly Keston and Braun getting DH games would be great with the way our roster is constructed.

So I am all for just have DH be the thing for everyone.

I hate watching the dumbed down AL version of baseball.

I'm with you the strategy in a NL game is more fun to watch.

But I do get why we're likely headed to a DH in both leagues. Injury concerns for pitches hitting and running are real (us brewers fan know all too well). Scoring helps boost interest. Gives NL teams a spot to put aging sluggers at the end of their careers. It could potentially help speed of play a little too. Just feels like it's inevitable that at some point in the near future they will make the change.

I don't hate rolling the dice on a guy who dropped because of an ACL especially since we aren't going to have any minor league ball this year anyway.

Before Yeli signed id have been against it. With him locked up I’d be all about it.

Overall I liked the Brewers strategy. Toolsy, versatile college bats. Should give them options at the upper levels sooner rather than later.

Yeah, especially the top two guys...both guys that could have gone much higher if circumstances were different. Really excited about both guys.
