He wasn’t even that good of a 3 point shooter, that’s the funny thing......

he disagree that he was a guard in a center's body. he was very clumsy and uncoordinated. His moves, even when they work sometimes always seems premeditated and rushed.

You know what?

People too often are willing to make excuses for failed players. While I'm not denying that how they are developed could affect a player's career path, I'm a firm believer that talents shine through at the end. In that sense, a player like Bargnani will not work in any era.

He was too bad of a rebounder and while he wasn't half bad as a one-on-one defender, he was horrendous on team defense overall. He was also not good enough of a shooter to make up for his shortcomings. That's a net negative in any era.

This.

Jks aside, I think Bargs can have a solid career if he was not asked to play 3 then bulk up to play 5 then play 4 when the 1st option left.

Still can't get over his defence. While he can hold up his man 1-on-1 in the post, it doesn't seem like he can do more than that. A passing big like Gasol/Horford can easily destroy Bargs.

I still recall yelling at the TV that my local league player defend better than Bargs. That is still the thing that doomed his career.

To sum it up, guard trapped in a centre body.

He was just soft. During his 3 prime years from age 24-26 he averaged over 17, 21 and 19 ppg. Shot over 43% FG, 34% from 3 and 80% FT.

3rd option who scores 15-20 pts a game, 6-8 boards on a bad team. Bad defense, 35% from 3, 40% from 2. To think of it he'd be exactly like he was, just a slight bump in points from jacking more 3s in this era.

Oh that's a good comp.

Bargnani didn't care about offseason training for fitness. Similar to Boris Diaw.

These days they wouldn't post him up so he'd only have to go to the elbow. Let OG, Siakam, etc slash and crash and he'd run back.

This Raptor team has a more helter skelter defensive system that might keep Bargnani moving and him jumping at shooters but not fouling might actually be a positive.

Just needed better coaching on defense.

After watching that NYK / Rockets clip I'd sign him right now.

If you were inclined to give him any benefit of the doubt:
- in Toronto he was potentially played out of position
- Mitchell was not a good coach, at all, and Triano didn't exactly turn things around
- Nurse and staff know what they are doing
- current team has a 100% different character. Imagine developing with Marc and Lowry and a coach with a ring vs. Bosh and Smitch. No offence to Bosh.

He's not the unicorn BC hoped for but he was skilled, and big, and with a different path could have done better.

His fans always had the most hilarious excuses for his terrible play. One of my favourites was his teammates would steal his rebounds

Here’s another trademark Bargs moment

Anyone saying he’s better than Brook Lopez on offense doesn’t know what Brook does on offense
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Its a two part problem;

When he was on, he could be functional (13 game sample) but you can't seemingly coach "giving a ****" into a players mindset, even if we assume he had the tools to hang in 2020 I don't think he had the court awareness or interest to be able to evolve beyond being a bench big in this era. I think he goes in the backend of the first round just because this draft is so putrid?

EDIT:
I forgot that Dragan Bender existed for a moment, while that was 2016 I am still not sure if GMs have the willpower to overlook a seven footer who can hit a three even with no interest or ability to defend or rebound. I am will modify my prediction to say if we knew nothing of Bargnani save for his Euro play he would likely be a lottery guy in 2020

If Bargs was drafted in 2020, he’d be the 1st pick in the second round.

Bargnani was like a 7-1 version of Kyle Wiltjer. A team couldn't be successful with him playing 30 minutes and giving zero in rebounds and defense at the 4/5 positions.

The best part of that clip is JR's reaction as if he wouldn't do so something so stupid  . Ended up doing the same thing and then of course 2018 finals game 1.

He would be exposed even worse on defense and be virtually useless.

Crazy that some people think he has even a chance.

Assuming all the hindsight experts on here had their way, what exactly would we gain by having a 7 foot stretch PF with a career 35% 3pt? His one "vaunted" skill was supposed to be shooting (I remember all the Italian Dirk hopes and dreams in the draft) and he couldn't even do that at an above average level at ANY point - see career numbers where he literally shoots >40% only once in his career at the very beginning. Meanwhile we'd be stuck with a 7 footer who barely averages 4 boards a game and has zero defensive awareness. We'd have been better off developing bosh as a 3 point shooter next to Rasho lmao

He was highly talented but lacked motivation, competitiveness, grit. No matter what era, you are unlikely to get a good playoff player with those attributes.
