SpaceCenter wrote:There has been a lot of talk about Lebron being the GOAT after yesterday's win over the Nuggets so I decided that a thread was needed to give credit to the great players who have won rings on much worse teams than Lebron. This thread is necessary to not only give credit where it is due but to properly rank guys like Lebron/Durant who coasted to rings because of their manufactured super teams.

I will start the list off by adding some recent champions who won with very little support

1. Dallas Dirk's ring in 2011 over one the most stacked super team's in NBA history containing Lebron/Wade/Bosh (6 games)
2. Wade's ring with the Heat in 2006
3. Kawhi's ring with the Raptors in 2019

Keep adding to the list so that we can get a true assessment of where guys like Lebron/Durant truly rank. You will notice that all three rings in the current list were won by a superstars who had with very little support. Please consider this when adding to the list.

Shaq was 1st team All NBA that season. :nonono:

Don't derail the thread because you're mad that I'm not a Lebron fan.

You dont have to be a fan to properly rate people. In no world is Kobe better then Lebron. For example I hate the Spurs, nothhing but respect for that franchise though and Tim Duncan is highly underrated.
Your name is Redd over Kobe, and you're telling him he's wrong? Lol

Yeah, '03 Duncan doesn't get enough shine. Everyone remembers that Robinson, Gino, and Parker were all there, but they forget that Gino was a rookie who was a few years away from being a major factor, Parker was an inconsistent second-year player whom many thought was going to be replaced by Jason Kidd in the offseason, and Robinson was playing his last season and on his last legs.

LeBron in 2016. Coming back from 3-1 against a 73-win team while leading BOTH teams in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals is absolutely incredible.

1995 Rockets. Won as the sixth seed taking out Malone/Stockton Jazz round one, Barkley Suns round two (coming back from 3-1 down), top seeded D Rob Spurs in WCF and then the Penny/Shaq Magic in the finals. Crazy good run.

2011 Mavs. Took out Blazers, defending champ Lakers, KD/Russ Thunder and then Bron/Wade/Bosh super team. An unreal run from the team and Dirk particularly.

2016. The East was very weak so it was a bit of a cake walk to finals for the Cavs but taking out that Warriors team the way they did was pretty amazing. The run LBJ and Kyrie had from games 5-7 was pretty amazing.

The Bulls in 93 is an underrated playoff run. Having to beat that tough Knicks team and then the Suns in the finals was rough. Three-peating is not easy and that Bulls team had a tough run at the end.

Yeah..he was still decent but that was a washed up version of Shaq compared to his prime. Shaq used to average close to 30pts.

We've got tons of Chips. Pat Riley calls 85 his favorite. No one is stopping our 2001 squad. Jordan had some great ones. city. Russell.
But, you can never go home, promise something to a destitute, desperate and Championshipless city, and deliver. And please, dont go back to the 50s.
Lebron went back home and won for Cleveland. A straight up Loser town. Multiply them by 10, they still amount to Zero. Who does that? Props to the Man who went home and won 1 for that citty.

Close. 1995 Rockets.

Won NBA Western Conference First Round (3-2) versus a 60-win Utah Jazz team lead by HOFers Karl Malone and John Stockton
Won NBA Western Conference Semifinals (4-3) versus a 59-win Phoenix Suns lead by HOFer Charles Barkley
Won NBA Western Conference Finals (4-2) versus a 62-win San Antonio Spurs team lead by HOFers David Robinson and Dennis Rodman
Won NBA Finals (4-0) versus a 57-win Orlando Magic team lead by HOFer Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway, would easily would have been a HOFer had he not get injured

Other championship runs had better individual series, but if you're focusing on the entire run itself, that has to be it.

This is my answer too, along with the 2011 Mavs and 2016 Cavs. That was an absolute war for the Rockets.

2011 Mavs
2004 Pistons (no one outside of Detroit saw them beating Shaq/Kobe Lakers), Robert Horry three denied them a repeat.

yep, everyone brushes over this, the Cavs had a wealth of assets and were considered stacked. To an extent they manufactured their own underdog status in the run up by being a bit underwhelming in the RS while the Warriors played excellently. no one had that Warriors team winning 73 games in the RS (and in fact, even while they were doing that people still thought the Spurs were actually the better team, there were plenty of articles stating this, even after the all-star break).

2016 was still a fantastic achievement but it does feel like we now get a revisionist view of it where the Cavs were falling apart when they were actually built a season prior with a wealth of assets and the Warriors are made to carry the burden of signing Durant before he had even joined them.

Oh I know all about Shaq's dominance. I watched the rise and fall of the Shaq-Kobe Lakers. But someone who averaged 20ppg for the season and was 2nd team all-NBA is definitely not washed up. He was in decline for sure but he still commanded double teams. Remember this was 1 year removed from their 3-peat.
