Luka Dončić Discussion - Year 3

Luka led the league in usage this season at 36.0%, I think we all knew that. I just saw this stat. Luka's usage spiked to an insane 40.4% during the playoffs. That's a problem. By comparison during the '15-'16 Championship season for LeBron & the Cavs, James' usage was 30.7% during the playoffs.

Lebron had Kyrie who also carried that team alongside him & had an amazing Playoffs himself.

Dude just outplayed Curry h2h in 16 Finals too. There isn't player on Mavs even remotely close to 16 Kyrie: ballhandling, tough shots, clutchness etc.

Donnie Nelson is useless GM who needs to go. Even Elton Brandt assembled way better team than him in Phila in 2019: Simmons, Butler, Harris, Embiid etc. He even drafted Thybulle.

Incredible is an understatement, absolutely astonishing, even LeBron didn't have 1st team all NBA 2nd and 2rd season, only TD from the last 25 years achieved more.

Part of me thinks Luka needs some game adjusting to attract stars to come play in Dallas. No legit all star right now would agree to play under a 22 year old foreigner and sacrifice his career and just stand in the 3 point line waiting for a pass while Luka handles the ball 90% of the time. That's a big ask. You're essentially asking the all star to limit his potential and just be Kevin Love.

Goran is a fellow European. Try convincing an American All Star to take the support role to a 22 year old Euro kid. I cant see all stars like Paul George-types willing to sacrifice their career to become a Kevin Love in Texas. Even Harrison Barnes had difficulty giving up seniority to a 21 year old kid then just to stand in the corner and wait for a kick out pass. That's a tough pill to swallow. Not for everyone, at least.

Ramona Shelbourne said it best. She indicated that Luka may want to take some summers in LA doing the recruitment circuit. Because you need to woo all stars to come over. And guys like Dame for example, won't just agree to turn himself into a THJ while Luka runs the show. Especially if they don't have a relationship to begin with. You have to establish something first, I just cant see bread lines of All stars waiting to become a Kevin Love here.

Not true. If I am not mistaken Luka was still 19 y.o. rookie ROLE PLAYER when Harrison Barnes, Dennis Smith Jr. & Deadre Jordan got traded for Porzingis.

Luka was a just role player before that trade, then Mavericks decided rebuild around Luka, trading players above for KP & made Luka their main ball handler (PG).

I am not sure if you understood what Wolfram said :) Doncic played next to Dragic and not other way around. Dragic (who was also MVP) had the ball and Doncic did just fine.

His first FIBA game since 2017. Slovenia won. Ballhog had only 17 assists. Arkuo will be mad.

Just FYI, 17 assists in FIBA is insanely high.
