A handshake agreement is against the CBA rules teams and players agree to play by. However, NO should want a reputation of rewarding players that buy into what he and Blazers are selling. Hood did buy into it last summer and it's not Hood's fault he was injured.

Maybe there is a scenario where they have Steven Adams lined up to be traded. Maybe in that scenario, they'd be willing to sign and overpay whiteside to a 1 year $20m deal in order to extract some 1st round picks out of us. It'd be spooky, because it would line up with the decline in our stars. I'd say the chance of that though is less than 1%....

The chance of a s&t may be less than 1%. The chances of Blazers paying Gallo $20M are less than zero%. The chance of Blazers giving a 1st round pick for Gallo is less than zero%.

Gallo is not a fringe all-star. He isn't anything like CJ. Maybe Gallo is an all-star like Mehmet Okur is an all-star.

And how are you going to prove a handshake agreement never occurred? Follow Olshey around 24/7 with hand tracking cameras?
MIL/SAC got in trouble because all sides weren't onboard.

You don't have to prove it didn't. You need to prove it did happen.

Bucks and Kings got in trouble because they broke the rules and someone spilled the beans. It is possible that they didn't break the rules and that's why talks between Bucks and Kings broke down. The third leg of the deal wasn't onboard because he was never asked, which means no rule was broken.

It's really doubtful there was any kind of serious agreement back then. Hood could've simply taken the best deal that had been on the table the last offseason and decided it's time to test the market now.

Needless to say, I always like simple explanations over sophisticated ones.

Got himself a decent pay raise, team must feel confident he is healthy enough to start the season?

Any word if next season is guaranteed?

On the surface it looks like the Blazers are shoring up continued depth all while adding a Legit starter in Covington.

Likely was a handshake deal from last summer but the second year is non guaranteed.

Is Portland done other than perhaps signing Gabriel?

Blazers have $15M left to spend. They better not be done.

Hope he gets capped at ~20 mins/game for several reasons, if he can maximize that, then great. More minutes on a nightly basis is gonna backfire, but that reduced role could work for both sides hypothetically.

Pretty hard to prove that stuff if the only people that have direct knowledge of it are Rodney Hood and Neil Olshey. Very easy to keep something like that a secret, when only two people on earth know it ever happened.

50/50 chance it is Melo after his agent gets through calling 29 other teams.

Blazers quietly having a nice offseason. Basically bringing back the WCF squad from 18/19 while replacing Aminu with RoCo is a move I’ll take every day... plus still a MLE to work with. If they can get Millsap, this will be a strong strong squad of everyone stays healthy.

... and Hood's agent. That's three people with a potential axe to grind somewhere down the road, or to mouth off to the wrong person after drinking too much. I suspect that any "promises" were of a very general nature.
