Yea, at 6'2, 6'3 you don't need to be some high flyer to dunk. If your standing reach is around 8 feet, you're 24 inches away from the rim, to dunk, you'll need a couple inches above your standing reach, so like 28 inch vertical will be good enough to dunk for a guy with an 8 foot standing reach. 8 feet is not a high standing reach, and a 28 inch vertical is not even particularly good for for the average athletic person you can find on the street.

I'm actually 6'3" and couldn't dunk, I could touch the rim though, but I'm as unathletic as they come.

Dirk once said that he didn't like to dunk because it would mess up his hands...... I imagine most shooters would feel that same way. The fingers are one of the one of the most important aspects of shooting....

They all can do it nowadays. The training to increase verticals has exploded in the last couple of decades......

I remember Jose Calderon never dunked the ball in an NBA game for a long time and then he did this random dunk against the bobcats

TJ Ford? Both Isiah thomas's? Jameer Nelson? JJ Barea? DJ Augustin? Fred Van Vleet? Basically anyone shorter than 6'0

Pretty sure Trae can't dunk unless he bounces the ball high and goes up and gets it and even then its a miss more often than not.

Hasn't really gotten in the way of his career.

There is a bunch of videos of Ricky dunking in practice (pretty effortlessly and with force as well) so I'm just going to assume everyone in the league can dunk, even if they haven't dunked in game

There is a website that calculates how high you have to jump to dunk. https://www.thehoopsgeek.com/dunk-calculator/

According to the calculator, you need 6 inches above the rim is to dunk the ball. So 10'6.
Someone who is 6'3 would likely reach 8'4. Meaning at minimum at 26 inch vertical, which you are right, is not incredible, but still pretty good. Most people who are 6'3 can't dunk, but your good athlete bball players will, and certainly NBA players.

Yea, here's Ricky dunking in the ACB league as a 15 year old with ease (20 seconds in). I've also seen him do it for Spain a few times, but he doesn't go for it in the NBA.

I think the chances are that Trae can actually dunk easily. He's got an 8'1" standing reach, which is actually higher than Damian Lillard's. He's got a super quick first step and is very fast and quick overall, chances are he's got a 35+ inch vertical at worst.

Pretty much any NBA player that's at least 5'9" can dunk outside of games. But dunking when you don't have the mechanics or great reach or hand size is way harder than if you do. But these guys are all super coordinated as well. Steve Nash barely being able to dunk is incredible to me lol like how can you be that quick and be 6'3" and not be able to dunk easily.

Three years ago when he barely got playing time he dominated with ease against a overseas journeyman and a 18 year old Jordan Poole. The skill gap is massive.

As for who can’t dunk I think they all can. In game is a different story.

I remember watching the Rucker tournament a few years back and every NBA player there was such a better shooter than all the non-NBA players. Even dudes that are considered to be poor shooters in the NBA were swishing jumpers left and right when playing against non-NBA talent.

That dunk calculator is kind of funny because it adds "vertical needed to do a 360 windmill like Vince Carter", lol.

While I didn't practice the dunk, I had a vertical that fluctuated between 37-40 when I was younger and I definitely could NOT do a 360 windmill like Vince Carter or like anyone. Now if we split it into 360 AND windmill, sure, but together? I don't know about that. Maybe I should have practiced more dunking and less basketball if it was supposed to be something I should have been capable of.

Every NBA player can dunk. It's really not a special feat. What's difficult is doing it in an NBA game against super athletic players.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.
