Re: The worst player in the NBA?
The worst player in the NBA getting heavy minutes is Dillon Brooks. He has not one above average skill that justifies the 30 mpg given to him.

It's gotta be Hezonia right? The only player who can't finish a one on zero fast break.

Not according to the advanced stats.
Layman has a -0.1 VORP and +0.6 WS and 11.5 PER. So he's slightly worse than an average replacement player. Other Wolves doing worse...
#1 draft pick Anthony Edwards is at -0.8 VORP and -0.6 WS (!!!!) and 12.4 PER.
2019 #1 draft pick Jarrett Culver is at -0.6 VORP and -0.1 WS and 8.7 PER.
2018 #1 draft pick Josh Okogie is at -0.5 VORP and +0.7 WS and 8.4 PER.
Ricky Rubio, Jaden McDaniels and Jaylen Nowell also have lower VORP than Layman.
[Note: There are very few NBA players (especially rotation guys) who have a negative WS. Even the worst team in the league, the Wolves, only have two guys.]
This is why I said 'mediocre young players'. This thread is not about 19-22 yo players on rookie contracts. Layman is neither, he just hasn't looked like an NBA player since he came back from that injury. Oh, man, I forgot we had Ed Davis, definitely another candidate for the worst player in the league, enters for 5 minutes and fouls out
Huh?
OP didn't give any of those specific parameters. He simply wrote "Worst player who actually plays..."

Yeah, I was wrong, was pretty sure it was the rule not to name young guys, but anyway, this thread wouldn't make any sense if we were naming guys on rookie contracts because 90% of the worst players in the league are guys on rookie contracts. And it's like you take special pleasure in pointing out that 19-20 year olds are detrimental to teams winning in most cases, and we all know that, it's always been that way, so idk what's up with that.

I was just pointing out that Layman wasn't the worst Timberwolves player... basically any way you want to slice it.
Rubio is not a 19 or 20 year old. Neither is Okogie. (Although despite those advanced stats... I think both of those guys offer more than Layman.)

Yeah no not even close. Andrew Wiggins is at least a solid role player, he's just making 2 or 3 times more than he should be. Kevin Love, Kemba, and Blake Griffin have all been straight up bad this year and they're all making more than Wiggins is.

I still think it's between Layman and Ed Davis when it comes to Wolves worst player, if you exclude guys on rookie contracts. I guess I'd go Ed Davis right now, he's donezo.
As you said, Rubio and Okogie(rookie contract and young) offer more than Layman, although they have both sucked this season.
Hernangomez was in the running for worst player until Finch took over, now he's just a bad player.
Okogie and Culver still have time to change their career trajectory, but right now they're on pace to be out of the league in 2 or 3 years.
Idk, Layman is out of the league when his contract expires imo, I don't see how he's gonna get another contract in the league. In his prime years, but does literally nothing decently the way I see it. Wolves might even cut him if they find a guy they wanna give a chance on some two-way/10-day contract, right now I don't think he's worth a roster spot.

Hes no longer in the league. As big Euroleague fan (he signed back with Euroleague team), I really hope he doesnt end up as a star, maybe that makes me bad person but I cheer against this guy, cause man if he outplays many EL players, that would just take away any credibility Euroleague has left, and would be kinda hard reality check pill to swallow how crappy Euroleague is. He was SO BAD in the NBA. In several games Mario has played this year in EL he was really good Euroleague player, but his team didnt make playoffs.

At one point of their carreer all of them were better than Wiggins will ever be, Griffin was the main scorer of a bunch of great Clippers teams, Love is a NBA champion and Kemba had some All Star seasons, all bad contracts for sure, but they at least did great things. Wiggins never was good, and will never be. If a have some **** better to be cheap. A lot of the worst NBA players are making little money (by NBA standards), the only bad thing they are doing is wasting a roster spot.

the guy plays every game and guards the opposing teams best perimeter player while putting up his highest shooting % of his career. A lot of people thought he would not fit into the Warriors system and would need to have the ball in his hands which has not been the case at all. If he could up his FT% and get a little more consistent with his shot it would take him to another level yet. If Klay can come back and space the floor next year Wiggins will look even better in his second year in the Warriors system.

He doing it for the team that developed 3 all stars, built a dynasty and helped change the way the game is played. Its his best version, still a bad player, the play isnt translating to wins, he is still taking dumb decisions and not being reliable, all while being wildly overpaid, I'm not a GSW hater, or dont like him because he is playing there, its my opinion for quite some time. For 8-10 million, great guy to throw at the oponent scorer, I'm not expecting more than this, and not paying 30+ million for it

I mean my answer, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, is 25 (which I think qualifies as young), so I guess there's no rule (other than 10-day/two-way)

If he were still in the league it would be him. It’s not that he lacks talent, but he’s a terrible NBA player. His bball IQ makes Javale look like Rondo.

I would say 24+ is where the line should be drawn when it comes to young vs experienced. So TLC qualifies.

Kevin Love's last 4 games: 18.0/7.5/2.5, on .440/.400/.788 splits (aka not a bad player)
Blake Griffin on the Nets: 7.7/4.0/2.1 in 19MPG, shooting .489/.381/.789 (aka solid role player aka not a bad player)
Can't disagree with Kemba, though
