1 of these guys is a villian, a so called bench player

One is also repped by Klutch who has their syncophants such as Draymond singing their praises.

why don't you compare their 2nd years in the league to have a more honest look. Also one of the guys already proved that he can't run the PG position.

One of them is a year younger, is PG sized, has PG skills, and is not due for an extension. The other is not a villain ... but the clock ticks on young players and very expensive decisions must be made with only partial knowledge.

He’s not worth the max, but that’s not why Cleveland won’t pay him. They’re cheap.

It's been pointed out before, but Dan Gilbert is many negative things. "Cheap" is not one of them...

The media should not print stories like, anonymous stories are one thing but from Simmons to Sexton, a lot of this **** is just obvious slander.

Yeah, that critique is belied by all available evidence.

After all the bs stories coming from Agents what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Also it’s hard to argue the Simmons stories are slander with they way he handled things this off-season.

Texas Chuck wrote:nah you can go nameless when you are protecting a whistle blower or something. But if you whole point is to trash some NBA dude's character, you need the scout to go on the record(won't happen obviously) or simply not run the story. Or best practice would be to go ask some of Sexton's teammates to confirm off the record. Then you can run the bit from the scout with a note that you confirmed this with multiple teammates.

All this achieves is stirring up some **** with something that almost certainly isn't true. A former teammate certainly came out in strong denial. It's bad journalism and you shouldn't be defending it.

Letting one guy with who knows what agenda just utterly trash a guy's reputation and printing that is bush league.
Completely agree.
The standards are low and it needs to change.

Cavs players adore Sexton. Nance and Love glow about him as a person and say he's the hardest working player they've ever seen and an inspiration. Like they go to bat for him.

If you're going to go for a character assasination Colin Sexton should be way down on the list of guys to go after. He's a young player that has improved every year because he works his ass off. I don't see anything there to dislike in the slightest.

It's okay to say his style isn't conducive to winning, but he had above average offensive efficiency on heavy volume in his 3rd year. To say that you can't win with him as one of your main players is a bet I wouldn't make. Whoever employs this scout needs to have higher standards (I hope they don't work for the Hornets).

"Anonymous Scout" is an analogy for made up or fabricated 99% of the time.

Quite an assumption there. I would not be comfortable stating that Sexton cannot run an offense when Cleveland has desperately needed scoring the past few years. Do I expect Sexton to be the next Jason Kidd? Absolutely not. Do I think he can be similarly effective to Rose in his peak years with Chicago? Yep.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I doubt this reporter is making things up, but the problem is that by shielding the source you shield the possible to motive or bias of the source. Is this a Philly scout talking to Drummond who took a $29M haircut because he flaked out when the Cavs asked him to move to the bench? Is it a scout on a team that has some interest in trading for him trying to knock the price of acquisition down?

Those are the types of problems you have with anonymous sourcing.

Top level reporters don't run with an anonymous remark unless they've heard the same from other sources. Chris Mannix/SI deserve the benefit of the doubt unless someone is aware of him writing hit pieces or publishing completely baseless rumors.

There's likely some nuance to this story but we'll only hear about it if someone decides this is worth writing a book or long article after the dust has settled and careers, relationships, and reputations aren't at stake.

For instance, simeone like Chris Fedor might know more, but he's not going to write something while the team can cut him off.

Except Mannix isn't citing multiple sources. He's quoting a single source and the reporting in the article doesn't spell out how that source is in a position to know what he's claiming to know. It's shoddy journalism.
