And how painful was it to watch both Dinwiddie and Porzingis? Dinwiddie was perpetually angry - not just at officials but at teammates - other than Trez. On court, he had zero chemistry with anyone but Trez. His assists came after he'd dribble the ball for 15 plus seconds accomplishing nothing - and often getting bailed out by a teammate hitting a shot near the end of the 24 second clock. He didn't get many to's, but that was because he didn't make many attempts to create for a teammate.
Bertans rushed every shot - as if he could make up for all his deficiencies by hitting several shots in a row - just to keep missing and get more desperate to make a 3. And more and more, he'd just give up on trying to defend someone and just intentionally hack away. He never could defend anyone near the hoop, and now he was giving up defending anyone on the perimeter. How many times did we see him ineffectually double someone just to let his man get an open 3 while he ran at him? What an awful way to defend NBA shooters.
Getting rid of both was addition by subtraction. Even if Porz is a total flop here, we won this trade. And he might be that, but he has undeniable talent, and when you're in the Wiz situation, you should take a chance on undeniable talent.
