I dunno. His game and body scream undrafted to me. Undersized bully ball bigs are a dime a dozen. Hope I’m wrong of course.

The issue for him is his athletic profile on defense. I don't think many felt he could keep up with 4's and 5's in the NBA.

He was undrafted, so that makes sense. I don't think anyone expects him to come in a start. The hope is based on him not focusing on basketball until age 12, steadily improving over 3 years at UConn, having a 7'2" wingspan, and hitting 77% of his free throws (along with 37% on a small-sample of 3pt).
He's going to need to lose 10-15 lbs to see where he is athletically.

Sounds like a good investment for the price. I think he can easily be a third string C, and hopefully develop into a rotation back up over the next couple of years.

Zach Edey didn't start playing basketball seriously until he was 16, and he's much further along than Sanogo is. It sucks that Edey's supporting cast had the yips in the tournament, because he probably would've stayed in the draft if Purdue made it to at least the Sweet 16. If there was a time to strike when the iron is hot (winning POY, "unathletic" big man winning Finals MVP, etc., fellow 7'4"+ player going first overall, etc.), this year's draft would've been it for Edey.

Edey is a classic old school big though. He's not shooting 3's, not taking long jumpers, he's pound you in the paint, rebound and solidly defend.
For the current iteration of the NBA, he's a bad fit unless he's coming off the bench and logging 15 mpg for rebounding and some post scoring. You would have to surround him with nothing but shooters to make him work in the NBA.

77% FT and his 3P% on tiny volume aren’t all that compelling for a junior. Who would you say his comps are? There aren’t many bigs in his mold that are rostered let alone in rotations. Isaiah Stewart comes to mind but he’s a cut above Adama as an athlete.
I suspect the hope is that he becomes a cheap innings eater, which is fine. I’m not critiquing the signing, I just don’t see any upside.

I think it is somewhat compelling when COMBINED with the fact that he shot 0 threes the year before, his FT% went from 58% to 69% to 77% at UConn, and he started focusing on basketball late into his childhood.

Stewart is a decent comp. Naz Reid could be another. Maybe Montrezl Harrell? To re-emphasize, this guy was not drafted. He needs to improve his athleticism and his shooting to be in an NBA rotation. I'm just saying, I can see the upside hope based on his shooting improvements at UConn and his late-to-the-game status.

I'll go on the record as saying I really liked this kid at UCONN. I thought he was the defensive QB of the team, reminded me of Draymond in that regard. Players drove the paint less when he was roaming it seemed like. Won NCAA tourney most outstanding player.
Seems like if he can continue to develop the 3, could see him as a Grant Williams type. Easy decision to take a flyer on him IMO.

He's already got 3 inches on Williams, so that's a start. 7'3" wingspan and 9' standing reach. I don't think size is an issue for a third string C.

Re: Bulls Sign Adama Sanago to 2-Way Deal
Knicks and UConn fan here.
I'm just excited to see him get a chance. For the most part this past year the kid dominated whoever he went up against. Everyone saw what he did in the tournament. He's built like an ox, just muscles on muscle and he's wide and knows how to use his body to his advantage to rebound and create space to get his shot off on offense. I think everyone questions what he'll do in the nba with bigger taller guys, but my money is on him still being very serviceable doing exactly what he did at UConn. Not to mention he does have a soft touch on his jumper and has shown he can hit the 3. Either way I'm expecting him to be a good player in the league. I get the feeling in 2 or 3 years people will be asking how is even possible he didn't even get drafted. Time will tell.

I didn't watch him in full games, but watching highlight and scouting videos this is my impression. I can see him being Vuc's primary backup after Drummond is probably gone in a year, and then take over for Vuc when his deal is done. Dude looks like a very strong prospect to me.

As an undrafted prospect he is fine. He bangs hard and is tough. Not sure on the hate on this move.

Let's see how he does in summer league. If he does well and gives the other bulls bigs some competition then that's good imo.

I doubt it but who knows. It is an undrafted signing. It’s not a never situation but I myself certainly don’t worry about those guys. If they add value so be it. I like this one as the Bulls need a guy like that even if it is just the practice squad. I am a culture guy though so I like moves like that. I don’t care much about them. Kid looks tough and I hate Pat Bev tbh but I love he brought some toughness. Hell even that one time Tristan Thompson showed and hit Grayson was something. He was all fluff though. Bulls have nice guys up and down the lineup. Need some balance to that. I don’t particularly like bully ball but you need a little of it

This guy would have been a Paxson pick back in the day.

I've watched almost all UConn games since he arrived. First few years he was a complete bull in a china shop. Towards the end of his sophomore year you could tell he was starting to put it all together. I've never seen any player push him around honestly. I don't know who in the nba will be able to. Obviously the good jump shooting big men can just shoot over him, but if they want to score in the post he'll give them fits, and he can get them into foul trouble too as they try to stop him. I know this isn't the best comparison but he reminds me of Sweeney in how he can use his body to create space and grab boards and get his close range shots off.
Clingan is up next at UConn. Another traditional big man but at 7'2 and agile I think teams will have a hard time not drafting him next year if he keeps improving from last season.

That didn’t take long!!
Got our new Marko ladies and gentlemen!!
What’s the point, AK? This is such an AK 90s signing, except I don’t think he’d be good enough to play back then either. What in the world are you doing, AK? I know 2-way guys are very unlikely to pan out, but at least try out guys that look like they have some shot.
At least it’s not a full contract.
