small combo guards are a dime a dozen. We should really stop elevating role players because they have a few good games or a strong series against bad defenses. It's silly. There's a reason he's on his 4th team in 4 years. When the Knicks fail to advance Divincenzo and his limitations will be a major reason for it. If he's your worst starter or a 6th and getting paid like it, than you're golden. If you're expecting anything more and are paying for it, you'll be disappointed.

In the end Jordan will be known as Donte Divicenzo from Brooklyn.

DiVicenzo benefitted from his 1 year with the Warriors.

I love this Knicks team. They're battlers.

The perfect Thibs team.
** Luka made The Finals without Brunson
** Embiid is the only MVP in NBA history to never make a conference final
** Philly won multiple playoff games without MVP Embiid
** LeBron missed the playoffs with Davis
** Steph missed the playoffs with Klay

Oof.

How much help does Brunson need :D
He's playing amazing!

Having even one of our starting forwards would be nice :dontknow:

*Almost the perfect Thibs team. Still need to swap Bogey's contract for Caruso + Tate and pick some depth kids. Then we'll really be the thibsiest team that ever did thibs 8-)

They could not match anything close to the Knicks offer, he was on the tax payer MLE so were limited on the raise they could give him

The Warriors didn't sign him with the intention of keeping him long term anyway. I think Donte said not so long ago, that Curry (maybe?) called him during recruiting, saying if he signs with them, they will make him get a nice contract. Exactly what has happened.

Maybe this is just a 20/20 hindsight thing, but it would have been better if they gave him a longer contract than sticking with Klay Thompson, who has been building skyscrapers with his bricks over the past few seasons.

This is all wrong. Combo guards are certainly a dime a dozen. Ones with the efficiency of Divi are not. He’s a plus starter.

The Warriors signed him to what they could, 2yr/$9.3M with the second yr a PO. If he had a good year he'd get a nice contract somewhere, like he did, if not he'd pick up his option. That's what he wanted.

Strange timing for this take.

He averaged 20/4/3 on 40% from three and on elite volume as a starter over 63 games. He's also a plus defender.

He's closer to prime Klay Thompson than he is a worst starter.

Donte's turned into a quality starter, but I feel like calling him a plus defender is a bit much. He can make plays on defense, he fits over screens, and does well with some match ups, but overall his metrics are more of a neutral to minor negative as teams can attack him:

+0.51 D-DARKO, -0.6 D-EPM (50th percentile), DefRtg w/ DDV 116.78, DefRtg w/o DDV 108.20

What is he doing in the playoffs that he didn't do in the regular season?

It's hard to argue with those stats but we both watch him all the time. He's quick, he hustles, he plays really hard, he knows where to be and he's usually starts on the better guard defensively. I don't think he's gonna be on an All-Defense team ever, but he's also not someone who usually gets picked on either.
Go Knicks!

So if he was a free agent this year, how much more per year would he get? His contract looks like an absolute steal.

He'd be in that 25+ range. He set a Knicks record for 3's made this season, the majority after he was given the starting spot after Quentin Grimes moped about his touches and went to the bench. Granted, that was when RJ Barrett and Julius Randle were still on the team, but he really took off after the trade for OG.

Loving watching him kill it. If they get past Indy, Boston and Derrick White, along with Jrue Hokiday, loom. We'll see how he fares against some strong defenders who are around his size, and how he fares defensively against them, as well.
