Even though the numbers don't line up with what you're saying OP, I know what you mean. Tatum doesn't pass the eye test of a superstar in some ways. That's why if Boston and Dallas match up, I think Dallas takes it with Luka being that guy

However, basketball will always be a team game and Boston has built a great team, so nothing wrong with Tatum doing what the team needs, which is to win. Why should he overexert himself if he doesn't need to? I'm sure Jokic would love to be in that situation

He's not an alpha dog but he's doing what he needs to do for them to win and the team is good enough to not necessarily need a "dawg". The guy that just wants to step on your throat and yell at you while he's doing it. Even when he lets out a yell it looks forced. Just not his personality. Doesn't mean he can't lead them to a title or is being "carried".
When someone says, "to make a long story short", it's usually too late.

Is that per game averages?

Totals are extremely disingenuous. Just show us what his averages.

Look at the competition... Heat without Jimmy, Cavs without Allen or Spida for half the series, now even Haliburton, the best player they've faced so far (lol) is missing halfs. His numbers are literally irrelevant lol he could be sitting on the bench every game and the Celtics would still be in the same position. They're really out there doing battle with 30-win caliber teams in the playoffs, crazy.

He has those stats because he’s constantly winning more games than anyone in the 2020’s

Part of winning more games is being a very good player and a player who plays more games & playoffs than player X is.

Sorry, but those are the facts.

He's shot a better true % than brunson all playoffs, it's averaging almost 30 in the ECF, and has been the team's best passer, rebounder, and one of their best defenders but don't let facts get in the way of the narrative because his 3 has been off.

25/10/6 isn't getting carried dawg

His game just isn’t that exciting to watch compared to some other dynamos in the league. That’s okay, a championship is all that matters.

I don’t feel any sort of way about it.

You can win a championship without being the best player in the world. It’s a team sport.

Tatum is the best player on the Celtics and a top 5-10 player in the league, he has been for a few seasons now. There's not much else to say about it.

Will anyone be surprised if/when Tatum wins The Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player award in June?

It's clearly totals, and it's clearly because Tatum's been a high volume guy on teams who've made deep runs every year. Not anti-Tatum but this just tells us basic facts we know about him and isn't a good piece of evidence here.

Also him 'getting carried' is probably a straw man (even if bad posters are saying it here), but him having enough support that he doesn't need to be a great #1 consistently is a different and better discussion.

It's really a credit to Boston (since Stevens took over) for recognizing who he is and building the right way around him.

He's probably the worst of the first team all NBA players, which is noticeable at this stage of the playoffs. But he's still firmly a top 7 player and effectively higher given injuries.

He'll also have at least like 8 seasons and 3-4 PO runs to cement his legacy. Right now he's basically that plus 'not bad but not a hero in the PO' but there's a lot of career left for that to change.

TheSheriff wrote:This is a very long rant about “beliefs” that ignores facts. Tatum led all players in the last series in points, rebounds, assists, steals. He’s averaging 29.5/9/4.5 in the ECF. His FG% and FT% overall are fine, his 3pt% is what is off.

He’s not exactly being led. Has Brown been better for two games? Maybe (I’d say Tatum was better in game 1, but Brown hit the biggest shot).

Regardless Tatum isn’t being carried. That is just plain incorrect.
