$15M would have been a home run, so good deal. B+. Certainly not letting him walk quibbling over $3M per year. Insane he's making 163% of Coby's contract, but Coby is going to get seriously paid in 2 years. We're not going to be able to extend him either since that will be based on his old contract and he'll flatly refuse.

Very interesting they focused on Pat before signing Demar because with Lavine not salary dumped, this 100% impacts the ability to pay Demar. Little things like Torrey opting in also hurt.

Demar does seem on the way out, hell has frozen over.

Interesting that general internet reaction is that it's way too much. I guess I was just expecting the Bulls to throw the brinks truck at him just because we used a #4 pick on the guy.

You could now let DDR walk and your 10 are as follows by signing Drummond to a 2/20M deal:

1st unit:

Giddey
Coby
Zach
Pwill
Dre

2nd unit:

Lonzo (10-15MPG)
Ayo
Terry
Buzelis
Vuc

That team is lottery. I don't see anything other than a playin.

90 mio that would win us 2 more games per season compared with some minimum salary guy.
Look at the stats, look at the energy, where is he any better than Javonte Green?
Good guy in general, good 3 and D, but I don't want us to give this much money to a guy, who is slow between the ears while playing and who is among the worst rebounding PFs in the league.
This role player contract would destroy our cap 2025/2026 flexibility.

AKME, please don't do this!!!

Came into the league 2020
20/21 - 27,9 min - 9,2 pts - 4,6 reb
21/22 - 24,8 min - 9,0 pts - 4,0 reb
22/23 - 28,3 min - 10,2 pts - 4,1 reb
23/24 - 27,3 min - 10,0 pts - 3,9 reb
He's probably listed as the definition of stagnancy on Wikipedia

No it won't, it's basically a longer MLE.

How is giving a 5 year deal to a guy with zero motor that hasn’t shown consistent improvement a good idea?

That's a fair deal IMO. Could be a bit much next year (which doesn't matter), could easily be a steal in years 3/4/5.

Play-in would be even more franchise destroying than usual considering their pick would go to San Antonio. This team can't be mediocre next year.

I'm kinda surprised, don't love it, but has a good chance to be a value deal nonetheless.

I'm guessing the Bulls expect him to start at either the 3 or more likely the 4 spot this year.

Demar is 99% gone now.

Roster right now:

5: Vuc
4: Williams, Buzelis, Phillips
3: Giddey, Craig, Terry
2: Zach, Ayo, Bitim (non-guaranteed)
1: Coby, Carter, Ball

One of these things is different from the others lol.

I guess now Demar will see what he can find which probably includes mostly sign and trade ideas while we continue to check the best options for Zach and Vuc trades, with the only needs being a new C or two.

It's decent, will look better when the cap raises. I hate player options.

I wish he had more aggression, but he has the tools, it just does appear that his hearts in it.

Oh well, what's done is done, let's get back to work, no point standing around crying about 90 million.

An overpay for what he has shown production-wise, but a better deal compared to what other players in similar age and numbers are getting - like Jaden McDaniels 5/131M. Obviously you’re also banking on potential improvements. If he makes any sort of leap (rebounding, ball handling), this becomes another value deal just like Coby and Ayo.

I don’t mind the 5 years. At worst, he stays as the same exact 3&D player he’s been with his 10/4/2 average. That’s far from Felicio unplayable; there’s always gonna be a place for a player like that.

This does have the making of an imminent rebuild though. I don’t see much anything for DeMar anymore; too many young players that need to play in his positions.

Wow, wow wow. Not in good way. 5 years of this guy. Hopefully on bench tucked somewhere deep. We giving injury prone players 5 years :banghead: Nothing learned from Lonzo situation. Nothing learned from Felicio situation. Yikes.

Honestly, I do slot him closer to Felicio and those type of really questionable NBA talent guys like Valentine of that era. He’s actually shown us nothing, so I have felt that even the qualifying offer was too high for him.

This. He shown absolutely nothing to warrant 5 year deal or some kind of player options. Not only 5 year deal but he getting injured a lot. Guy is playing 53 games average per season, had two season ending injuries. This is same amount of games Lonzo average before getting deal with Bulls. This deal is worse than Zach's deal. In terms of money for his Snell'ing performance, and absolutely atrocious when it comes to availability. Same as Lonzo's.

I'm definitely kind of worried about the foot injury right now, but calling Pat injury-prone is pretty unfair. He played 71 games in his rookie season, missed most of his second season after an obvious freak injury and played all games in 22/23.

Has the player option been confirmed anywhere? Haven't seen it so far. That would make the deal worse, obviously.

Dream scenario would be a declining deal.

Snell was 20th pick so his production was forgivable in the long run. Williams pick at 4 is absolutely awful. I thought he was outplayed by Dalen Terry at most points of the season and Terry is awful. I’m sure Buzelis will be way better than him out of the gates, but we will sit here having to watch Williams feast up entitlement minutes. I have more faith in Julian Phillips.

We can criticize Pat without being ridiculous. It has to be possible.

With the new mammoth TV deal, this might seem like pennies in a few years.
