Re: Jays 2024 Trade Deadline Thread
Yea wasn't really expecting a massive haul for our pending FAs. Kikuchi has also really tanked his value and I don't really expect a big return for him. Just sucks that if we actually had talented vets available for trade, I think teams would've overpaid. Lots of teams still trying to compete.

Honestly. It's a whatever trade and doesn't deserve to dominate the conversation
Can we just keep this thread for deadline updates

I think the floor has to be 'will we get more back for him now than the value of a QO compensation pick?'
Because if the answer is 'no', then what's the point of trading him now?

Re: Jays 2024 Trade Deadline Thread
Reading what the national writers are reporting, the Jays could get overpays for any of their guys under control not named Vlad or Bo (they certainly would be well-compensated for those guys but that seemingly isn't in the cards). The issue is whether they are going to stick with the fiction that guys like IKF and Green are really crucial for some mythical competitiveness in 2025. IKF is no longer needed - and ready to return, he played in two games at Buffalo on the weekend. Green is a pricey reliever, doing very well but the money he's paid could get you two decent relievers during the winter. Both are ideal sell-high situations.

Justin Turner just pulled from the game.
Seattle acquiring him for RJ Schreck an AA OF. Ninth rd pick a year ago, just promoted from A+, 29th on the Mariners prospect list. Seattle absorbing all of the remaining Turner salary.

It’s been such a bad year that our options seem to be selling low or sticking. With that in mind I approve of the principle of not trading Vlad or Bo but kinda open season otherwise.

Doubt he meets or would get QQ , so he was going go for nothing. I don't think they want to Qualify him at 23-24 mill whatever it is, and risk him taking it.

Wonder if all these moves will get us enough to duck under the tax, so we aren't in the repeater tax category for such a disastrous year.

FWIW, Matheson has four of the prospects slotting into our system's top-30. Clase is top at #7, but Riviera (30), Coffey (27), and Paulino (19) are also now amongst our top prospects.

Sad the scurbs we traded who for most have down year, or rentals, are slotting into top 30, just speaks how bad or down our prospects are relative to the field and in general our farm system - though this is mib ranking.

As per mlbtraderumors, depending on the cash we sent Seattle, we should be about $5 million over. A trade of Kikuchi and one of Chad Green or IKF should get us there. It's an interesting development, if not all that meaningful for this year, as we won't be qualifying anyone. We will, however no longer have to surrender a fifth along with a second if we do sign someone that another team has qualified.
