I didn’t follow enough to know if he was promising in any way.

Just the guess with minimal info is what you’re saying - he wasn’t gonna be in the main rotation so he left/maybe was pushed out.

The only negative thing is that if Fickell is gonna succeed - his young recruits have to shine. This is one of them.

One thing is clear to me.

Paying NIL dollars for marginal upgrades at non premium positions is a huge loser.

Go all in for a QB and a disruptive DL. Otherwise roll with what you got.

That is certainly the first one that matters. We'll see what they do on the incoming side.

Yea Neal is a loss. DL is the hardest position to fill for a college team and losing a would be upperclassmen hurts. Even just for depth purposes

Seeing Landyn Locke tweet that he's signing his LOI, which I realize still could be a one year thing for him or he can maybe break it - still surprises me.

Considering he tore his ACL and didn't get to put much of a senior season on tape he probably didn't have a ton of other opportunities

People will burn down Madison if big bro stays around, but my controversial take is that I'd rather have Braedyn Locke as backup vs. what they are likely to bring in behind their main transfer. A backup that can win a handful of B10 games if he's called on for 2-3 is better than rolling with a true freshman you are waiting on or something.

Barring some miraculous growth in his development/physique, I’mfine with Locke hanging out in Madison if the understanding is he will play only to get us out of a drive/game if our starter has a concussion or something. Or, maybe 1 week for a sprain.

If we have another season ending injury, I’d rather just take lumps with a younger upside guy than take lumps with the senior no upside guy. Either way, the season is lost, as we saw this year.

He just isn’t any good.

I get this angle and it feels good to cut the player you hate.

The issue with "taking your lumps" if there's a > 3 week injury is that those lumps with next year's schedule might amount to a 3 win season and Barry pulls his levers with donors and hits the fire button.

I realize Locke might only get it to 4 or 5 if he has to play 8 weeks against the meat of the schedule again, but it could matter.

I just don’t think Locke prevents that.

There’s no Purdue, Rutgers, Northwestern on the schedule next year.

He was **** BRUTAL overall after Purdue and Rutgers.

Still probably better than throwing Carter Smith out there, but we don't have to open this wound again. The point is that he was roughly as/slightly less "brutal" as any other B10 starter against those good defenses.

He was good enough to win vs. USC and Nebraska.

Jace Arnold to the Portal. Quite a thinning out of the secondary so far

The OC posting closes today. Insiders are saying it won't be Marion, but that could be a smokescreen from the Badgers.

If he is to be a Big Ten starter as a RS Freshman, where other teams are buying established guys that have 2+ years of good production, don't you think he'd have been ahead of Locke on the depth chart at least?
