Interesting framing to blame the CBA rather than Nico having brain worms. And I generally can’t stand this new CBA.

I hate this for him for a multitude of reasons but not least because he's just not gonna win there. Hate to see it.

The Lakers are probably the marquee franchise in what for whatever reason is the most desirable market in the league with new owners willing to spend and a true superstar who's at least shown he can lead a team to the finals. They probably won't get there with this iteration but can see them truly contending once Bron leaves.

Ok guys … let’s flesh out the scenario where Fat Luka is now making $80M per year on the Mavs. Well he just signed a supermax, so now he has no incentive to lose the weight and change the diet like he has been this summer. And now you are paying 2/3 of your cap to him and an aging Kyrie, I think everyone here knows about ball to know that would be a perennial second round exit team at best.

The part that everyone clowning Nico for was not for trading Luka, it was for trading Luka for an aging injury prone star instead of a historical haul of FRPs + young players. The supermax is much more of a reward for the star himself for staying loyal to his team than it is a reward for the team paying it.

Dallas didn't have to pay him the supermax to keep him though right. I mean that was an option. And who knows what pick they'd have ended up with if Luka stayed. And if he demanded a trade then, it would be public and a lot more teams would be allowed to make offers.

Been very critical of LAL off season, but in the end, this is what matters most, they secured Luka, have a competitive team if the chips fall a certain way, and most importantly, they have the financial flexibility next year.
The early LeBron years and the last few years of the Bucks have taught us that working under the constant threat of a star leaving can lead to short sighted moves that can bring bad long term ramifications, I hope Pelinka doesn't squander the grace he was given here.

Lakers fans have reason to believe that the Luka Doncic era will go well.

1) A promising young head coach who showed some nice chops in year 1.

2) A proven 26yo superstar in a massive market.

3) New ownership who has a proven track record of spending money, unlike what the Buss family has shown the last 10-12 years.

Lol spending money doesn't automatically equate to good ownership, look at the Suns and Clippers.
