Orioleshangout.com has learned through several sources that the trade of All-Star second baseman Brian Roberts to the Cubs has been finalized.

The early reports indicate that Orioles will get back 22-year old right-hander pitching prospect Sean Gallagher, 25-year old left-handed starting pitcher Sean Marshall, and 24-year old shortstop Ronny Cedeno.

Update: An Orioles official has contacted the Hangout and denied this report and said "it is completely inaccurate."

More to come as it develops.....

AM 670 is talking about the rumors after the break.

If you read through this entire thread you will realize these "insiders" have been total crap. I have posted about 10 rumors since this thread was created and still no trade.

lol. i was listening already. the baltimore insider said that roberts might be on the list of players to be dealt. maybe not at the top though. if the orioles need pitching, this could be a deal that might be made. but you know they are looking for the best offers. i just have a feeling a deal is going to be made w/ the cubs.

But seriously, who cares?

I will be back in about 20 minutes for Mac, Jurko, and Harry to see if they have any news.

If anyone is going to report it, it will be Bruce Levine on Mac, Jurko, and Harry.

I think its fair. They think highly of Cendeno and I doubt his abilities, skill and potential.

One of the posters at the Orioles forumL:
espn1300 just said trade winds were swirling, and that the cubs had upped their ante (that's all)

aahhh F quit the suspense. Finish the trade already.

I don't like any of the players we're giving up, even if we throw in any of the two SW mentioned.

I want Roberts bad. Him and Fukudome would balance out our lineup so well. Especially with Roberts batting switch.

Doubt we get Bedard in any deal but it looks like Jay Payton may be included in a deal.

I'm not too optimistic. This deal has been sitting here on the table since the beginning of December.

If we do get him, hopefully the Cubs do not have their heads up their asses and keep Theriot out there with Derosa on the bench. Roberts/Derosa are upgrades defensively over Theriot at SS.

Bruce Miles:
I've been tending to some family-illness issues, but here are a few thoughts some info on what I've been told:

First, Hendry doesn't "float" rumors and neither does MacPhail. I can see MacPhail hating how this is playing out, and I'm sure he'll put it on his to-do list to stop leaks like this.
Second, the Orioles might be asking for Hill and Pie and whomever, but they will not get them. Hendry absolutely will not trade them for Roberts. Period. A package that includes parts of Gallagher, Marshall and/or Cedeno is what the Cubs have in mind.
Third, from what I've been told today and earlier this week, nothing is imminent. The Cubs would like Roberts, but if the O's decide to move him, it's 50-50 the Cubs will get him.
Fourth, the writer Peter Schmuck was mentioned above. This guy is good. He's a former Orioles beat writer who is very plugged in there. If he says it's 70 percent Roberts won't be moved, I'd tend to go with that. But that doesn't mean things won't change.
Fifth, I'm told MacPhail's first order of business will be trade Bedard (no, the Cubs are not in on this). Once that get settled, then he'll turn his attention to Roberts.

Return to Chicago Cubs
