Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
I hate him so much that I am not even going to say his name but he has said he will not play without a new contract. Sweet! Hopefully our new management, who has no connection to him, does not give into his demands and suspends him for the season. I could not care less about him anymore and I hope he goes no where near our national team either.

Isn't DeRosario our best player? Don't we really need him? I don't really follow MLS.

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
Huge news for Toronto and Vancouver as TSN has bought the rights to MLS soccer.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/s ... le1890791/
Hopefully TSN can give the sport a real boost.
It appears that TSN has acquired the broadcast rights for Major League Soccer previously held by CBC and Rogers Sportsnet. The public broadcaster and Rogers have been carrying Toronto FC games and league championship matches since the team was formed in 2007, but sources tell Usual Suspects that the national package has now been purchased by CTV/ TSN. Included in the deal are rights to a weekly game featuring either Toronto or Vancouver and the MLS postseason.
While CBC made a competitive bid, sources say that MLS wants the profile it believes that TSN can deliver on its SportsCentre and other broadcasts. The league is said to be hoping TSN can give the same boost it did to the CFL from partnering with the sports specialty channel. CBC has virtually eliminated sports coverage from its news operation, meaning that it cannot offer wall-to-wall promotion on sportscasts anymore.

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
Sportsnet has been very good to soccer. I don't see how this could be a positive thing. One game a week is nothing. We better get to watch all of TFC's games still because I could not care less about Vancouver.
Dero is our best player and where has it got us? We need to rebuild and getting rid of him should be included. Every TFC team and National team that he has ever been the best player on tanks. I wanted to say every team period but I am sure somebody will say that he was the best player on Houston when they won the MLS titles. I would say Brian Ching was but I do not really care.

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
I think the TSN games will be national broadcasts while regional rights for the other games will still have to be bought. I'm afraid the remaining TFC games will end up on GOLTV again.
As for Sportsnet I always thought they did a crappy job with TFC broadcasts.

Technically he is but he's way under payed. I hope this new management can shake things up.

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
I wish I could brainwash fans like he can. TFC already ripped up his contract once when they signed him. Why should they do that again? He would be a free agent right now if he had not signed the new deal. Whose fault is it that he did not believe in himself and played out his last contract before signing a new one? He is not way under-paid either. We way overpay De Guzman not underpay Dero.

Sportsnet butchered games, so I'm not sad to see them go. CBC had pretty good broadcasts however, so we'll see what we will get.
I have to say though, you would think that with TSN2 on board now, there shouldn't be any games on GOLTV. Please say its so!

Under paid? Are you kidding me? He is getting exactly what he deserves. Its not like he is a young guy either. No other club will pay him what he wants, period. Why should we?
EDIT: and I would argue that Frei is our best player, but to each his own.

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
I'm hoping for no GolTV games too. It sounds like this deal will be for the MLS game of the week (ESPN Feed) plus one national TFC or Vancouver game each week.
Which means the remaining games will still need to be bought locally on a Regional Channel. I could see Sportsnets Ontario/GolTV carrying TFC games and Sportsnet Pacific carrying Whitecap games.
I also agree, Frei would be my pick as our best player.

TFC gets it's first win today 1-0 against Red Star Belgrade

http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2011/02/to ... r-belgrade

Matt Stinson scored the only goal of the game as Toronto FC beat Red Star Belgrade 1-0 in preseason action in Antalya, Turkey on Sunday. The TFC Academy product scored in the 41st minute as Toronto maintained their unbeaten start to preseason.
The goal came just before the break in a closely fought first half when Stinson got on the end of a good attacking play from Toronto. Maicon played a through ball to Martina who crossed to Stinson. The former Winthrop midfielder scored off the post to give the Reds the lead.

I was hoping CBC would have kept the Toronto games. How long before the majority of the games are shipped on to TSN 2 in the following seasons.

I think and hope they are trying to build for the future like they did with CFL football and take a lower rated league and make it into something much bigger.
“As we have seen with the success of Toronto FC and MLS’s expansion to Vancouver and Montreal, there is an incredible appetite for professional soccer in Canada,” said Stewart Johnston, President of TSN. “This is a long term partnership with MLS and we are looking forward to working with them not only give fans ‘best in class’ game coverage but also to help build the profile of the league and grow the game of soccer across the country.”

Wow, our top goal scorer/ all star is not underpayed? We wouldn't have won one game last year if it wasn't for him, tell me who is a better player then him on the pitch besides Frei? We pay De Guzman a million and he was very poor last season. But come on 400,000 while we pay De Guzman 1,7 mill this season is crazy and what kind of DP was Mista when Preki sat him half the games?
