Still no updates isn't it past the cut deadline? Is there a pending trade. WTF is going on?

Hmm...Rashard is missing with a family issue. Miami's too loyal a brotherhood to leave him out in the cold like that. Wouldn't be like them. I keep saying this: If Beasley weren't turned loose by the Suns, Griffin would have been an absolute lock for this roster.

Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread 2.0
Glad we dumped Varnado. Dude was nothing but a foul magnet.
Also, I wouldn't trade Bosh, period. Just because we don't maximize his skillset doesn't mean he's not talented. And the aspect of his skillset that we do exploit, he's one of the best in the league. We use him for floor spacing and pnr defense, and he is elite at both. I'm not trading him if I'm Pat or Andy, and I don't think they're looking to do that either.

Spo is going to wait until the end of the week to make the last 2 cuts. There was no cut deadline.
Rashard Lewis scores but doesn't play much and doesn't play in the playoffs. He's also past his prime & is not as active as he once was. His defense is also sub par.

So? You can "he [won't] play much and [won't] play in the playoffs" about Griffin or Hamilton too. That's likely the case for anyone on the end of the bench on every team in the league. Even accepting all the other stuff (past him prime, yeah we knew that, not as active, maybe maybe not, sub par defense, definitely at the 4 but passable at the 3), still, my answer is, "so what?" He's still likely to be as impactful, if not moreso, in an injury pinch, as Griffin or Hamilton. Either these guys would likely remain behind Oden, Andersen, Bosh, Haslem, and Beasley on the depth chart. Even if Oden is injured, we played all last season with a Bosh/Haslem/Andersen big rotation and Battier/Lebron being the back-up 4; now Beasley is in that place. Which means we'd need Oden, Beasley, AND one of Haslem/Andersen/Bosh to be unavailable before you'd expect to see a big at the edge of the bench get minutes

What? Only LeBron averages 8 rpg here. Griffin wouldn't even be in the rotation, let alone garnering the starter minutes that that per game total would require. I like him as a 15th man for depth and situational play.

Totally agree. Was just discussing who I'd look at if we were to trade him. I think he's perfect here, especially if he rebounds a tad closer to his Raptor days.
And yeah, I talked up Varnado big in Summer League, thinking his flaws would be masked playing with more regular guys. That turned out to not be so true, it seems. He looked pretty bad in his time on the floor. I thought he was better than Joel overall, but his hands are still kind of bad and he doesn't move his feet nearly as well as Joel on PnRs.

Because for Griffin to get picked and shard cut, he has to do at least one thing exceptionally well. And I'm not sure what he does really well, does he rebound well, defend? I don't know. I wish he were like a Kenneth faried type player honestly

Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread 2.0
With the way Bosh is used in the offense, Horford would be the better fit.
Horford is better defensively & on the glass. They both have outstanding jumpers. The only edge Bosh has on him is his ability to create his own offense. Unfortunately, Bosh doesn't get enough opportunities to do that in this offense.
But Miami isn't making that trade anyway
Hell no to Lamarcus Aldridge.

Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread 2.0
Horford is one of the most underrated players in the league.
Perhaps you meant per 36 minutes? Maybe he could. Too lazy to look up his stats right now, but I'm sure he rebounds well for his position, since he's an elite pogo jumper around the rim. He's really an intangible player. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and gets involved in every play, especially defensively. He's not incredibly skilled offensively, but he still seems to have a knack for finding ways to put the ball in the hoop. His length and athleticism would really stand out playing next to the passers/creators and floor-spacers we have, and he seems to get a lot of blocks using those assets.

I saw him in summer league and I don't know, I don't see it, maybe he's one if those players who will player better when playing with talent.
Also LeBron was saying Rashard should get more burn

Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread 2.0
It would make more sense to cut JJ rather then Lewis if we really want to keep Griffin. But i dont see that happening because of the loyalty angle.
Lewis can surprise sone pepole this year i think.
Hopefully Riley can come to a winkwink agreement with Griffin that if he plays along and works hard on the Dleague team he'll get a roster spot next year when we'll have more use for him.
Just dont let him or Hamilton become the next Patrick Beverley, it's killing me seeing him do work for the Rockets and outlaying our own PG's after we payed him for multipule years to NOT play for us.

There's no way a player in Griffin's standing and his agent would pass up on an NBA roster spot due to an unlikely promise (Heat can't say for sure they'll have a spot for him next season) for a roster spot a year from now. He's taking whatever he can get whenever he can get it.
Don't know what you were looking for out of him then. He was terrific in his role, and apparently the Heat agreed.

pretty much all our bigs sucked in summer league. The wings were the ones who really stood out to me, couple other bigs who i knew would never make it anyway.
I like the kid, i just don't know if they drop shard for him. Honestly if he has Kenneth Faried potential type energy rebounding wise. I'd say keep him, i just don't know

He definitely didn't suck. I watched every game multiple times as I had too much free time on my hands. Hard to really call him a "big" though.
You can definitely compare his bounce and motor to Faried.

A Rockets fan claims Greg Smith can be had for a second round draft pick.
Definitely something we should consider IMO, he looked very good last year, i would even say borderline starting Center talent. Still just 22 YO.

Yeah he'd be nice here. We could use a young, rugged big like that.

UM's Kenny Kadji has been waived by the Cavs. Let's bring him back home--sort of. Sign him to the SkyForce and keep that 6'11 body close.
