Rick Bonnell: Sounds like NBA's new TV deal is done. Lots more revenue, which means a higher cap. Get ready for sticker shock on player salaries. Twitter @rick_bonnell

From what I heard, the nba wants to slowly raise the cap over a 2-3 period. Not all at once.

The number is actually closer to $89 million if I have done my math correctly ($88.88 mil). If my math is correct based on estimated current year payouts of $915 million for the league, each team currently gets roughly $31.17 mil per year, meaning this next contract will pay each team an average of $57.7 million more per year than the old deal.....GULP! That is very close to triple the current deal. Say hello to caproom in 2016-2017 everyone, maybe even next year also.

If I haven't made a mistake on my math (and that's a big if here), player salaries will account for 50% of that deal on a yearly basis. That could be as much as a $28 million increase to the cap- though it may be scaled up over time. How about a cap of $91 million??

Kerrsed wrote:The funny thing is she might be able to find some stuff at a store called Ross. Here in AZ, the Ross stores almost never have any Suns stuff, but i always find other teams stuff there. I have a Clippers shooting jersey that i got for like $10, a Celtics shirt i got for $5, even picked up a Wizards shirt for cheap as well. Dont know if they do get in Suns stuff and its always sold before i get there, but i have no problem finding other teams NBA gear, so in Washington you might be able to score some Suns stuff.

She could also check out Sports Authority store or Lids (usually in a mall) for Suns hats, as both stores have a very large selection of NBA hats.

I agree with Kerrsed, when I was living in Modesto, CA, I would randomly find Suns stuff at either Ross or Marshalls. But almost any bigger named sports stores should have gear, especially going into the start of the season.

When I'm visiting family in AZ, I always go to Goodwill, I find tons of cool older Suns stuff, and great ASU and Suns stuff for the kids. I could spend $30, and end up with 10 items.

Max contracts are always a percentage of the salary cap the year they sign right? Meaning that even if the salary cap raises to 90 million next year, they still be making roughly the same as the previous year. Is that correct?

Bledsoe's contract looking really good now. IT's is even better. Look for Dragic to get a heavy raise next summer.

As some of you know I'm in Australia. My wife is travelling to Washington for work next week. My question is, what are the chances she'll be able to secure me some Suns gear? Hopeless? Or a chance?

Cheers

I'm about to do my 3rd trip to The US this year from Brisbane, I can can tell you I was über-disappointed in how little Suns merch is available even in PHX. As Kerrsed mentioned, places like Ross Stores and even Walmart and Burlingtons (I guess you could compare them to our Targets/KMart's on steroids) are generally the best bet and that's where I've had the most luck. But I only really struck gold in the Las Vegas location stores - last trip, I went to 3 walmarts in PHX and none had any PHX stuff (and this was mid season too). The first two were on the east side and it was aaaaallll ASU stuff. As far as the eye can see. Last place I tried was west side (well away from the campuses) and still, no suns stuff.

If you don't mind paying the team store prices, I'd recommend what other posters have said and have it shipped to where she is staying - it'll save you a ton in postage. Or if there's anything specific you are looking for, like a cap, shirt etc. let me know and I'll keep an eye out. I got a cap for US$3.96 in Burlingtons so there are bargains to be had.

Man suns better make playoffs and stay healthy.

I've never seen a team so banged up like the Cardinals.
It's not even a joke... Like smh.

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

Yeah. So if even if we lock up Dragic for the max next year, the cap will keep rising and we could potentially afford another close to max FA

Dragic is not getting max. I don't care how much Suns fans love him there has to be a limit.

I mean signing his bro has to count for some financial mercy on his part.

Just that literally every other team will have more cap room too then (...well maybe not Brooklyn  jk) and FAs don't exactly love Phoenix. There will be crazy overpaying going on in the next off-seasons for sure. Good times ahead for average players.

The point is that we have *ours* locked up for "cheap" while others are either up for a new deal in a few years or they don't have a working core yet. We're in a great position to add a big that could take us to the next level and be able to sustain it because of the deals we've been able to do.

I thought exactly that when they eased up on the Bledsoe contract, and then when they started negotiating with the Morris twins it cleared it up even more. Super smart by the front office, I wonder if the twins and Bledsoe feel like they got conned now?

I don't think so. For one, neither would be up for a new deal before the salary cap go up significantly and two, their agents wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't know the salary cap is very likely to go up.

If anything, they could've tried to get a shorter deal like LBJ if they wanted to get more money sooner.

Amazing job by our FO securing that Morrii's contracts before these news.
Everyone knew that the cap will go up, but it wasn't an absolutely sure thing. With this deal signed, the team with longer contracts will have an advantage against other teams. A minimax in 2 years will be around $80M/4 years.

The Twins at $8M and $5M for a ton of years....

"I've been working," Bledsoe said. "Most of the time, I was working on my conditioning. I was trying to stay in shape because Coach Hornacek stayed on me last year about staying in shape so I can stay in the game longer.
"I can't even count how many times Coach would ask (if I was tired). He told me when I came out of the game that I've got to get in shape. He'd tell me in practice that I got to get in shape. I couldn't hear enough of it."

Looks like Bledsoe is in better shape than ever.

Interesting read: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nbas-new-tv-deal-blow-up-the-salary-cap/

Players trade security for some risk going that route. That’s why a number of guys signed long-term contract extensions this month even knowing the cap will rise dramatically in the next few years. The Suns absolutely had the TV deal in mind when they beat the field in inking the Morris twins and Eric Bledsoe to long-term deals over the last two weeks. Those contracts look big, especially Bledsoe’s five-year, $70 million deal, but they’ll look very different in two or three years. Longer is better in this case, provided good health.
