If CLE continues to be crap we should try and get Deng in free agency with a S&T for Dudley, Bullock, Mullens and Green. Next season's salary for those 4 guys is a combined 8m, but I think there is a bit of leeway when it comes to matching salaries. Assuming Deng gets 11m is it doable?

I like Deng but his 3pt shooting is a bit of a worry considering we make plays to attempt a lot of shots from distance. I would prefer to keep Dudley (if he can improve) and Bullock and upgrade our backup bigs.

Why would you think Dudley is going to improve? He is what he is at this point. Apart from his shooting, which isn't always there by the way, Deng is far more superior in every other category.

I meant Dudley improving his 3pt shooting. Deng is by far the superior player however do we really want to spend that much money on a guy who is average from distance? Maybe he will fit nicely. With DJ and Blake playing a lot of minutes the 3 spot seems to be our weakest position.

I think the 3 is clearly our weakest position. That's why I'm really keen on Deng. Imagine the defensive improvement he would provide at that position. We would still have the mini mid level to use for a backup big. Or a shooter depending on who is available on a vet min.

IF Deng only 8-10 mil he probably would of extended with the Bulls. I see him wanting a huge payday. Danny Granger could be cheaper.

The Bulls thing wasn't about salary. Way too complicated for us to talk about here. Anyway, I see Deng wanting a payday too, but with multiple years. Iguodala got 4 years 48m so expect it to be around that. And with such a finely tuned squad Granger really isn't the kind of risk we should be taking.

It'd be really really difficult for us to legally be able to get Deng via sign & trade. Per CBA, teams can't receive players via sign & trade if they're above the apron (4 million over the luxury tax) when the trade is finished. The apron is at $75.748 million this year, and we already have over 73 million commited for next season, and that's before re-signing Hollins, Jamison, or signing any new big for our bench, or even signing our own draft pick. That trade you're suggesting doesn't work unless Deng takes a big paycut, and I don't think he will.

CBA wrote:•Starting in 2013-14, teams cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade transaction (see question number 90) if their team salary is above the apron at the conclusion of the trade.

Plus, a year from now, Dudley may easily be a more useful player than Deng, while being paid 1/3 of his salary. I'd rather try to bait the Bulls into sending us Gibson for that package.

So we'd have to include Barnes, which is a bummer.

anyone know if a player like Jeff Green would be possible? Not sure how much he is getting paid or if he would even fit with us.

Jeff Green is out. The Clippers are under a gag order. Because the Clippers traded for a coach, both the Clippers and the Celtics are prohibited from exchanging players in any way, shape or form for the rest of this season. This includes multi-team trades and trades where a Celtic player is moved to another team and after a few months pass, the Clippers acquire him.

The only way the Clippers can pick up any Celtic is for Boston to buy out the player's contract.

Speaking of Green. Gerald Green would be fantastic on this team. Very affordable salary.

Plus, he has highlights for days. The Clippers would have their own Shannon Brown (who I think Doc Rivers might be considering given that Darius Morris has been released).
