Are we interest in Russell Westbrook swap takes despite a commitment to stay? If so, what're we willing to part with? Westbrook, Collison for Matthews, Powell and a 1st is probably my offer. We need a playmaker like Westbrook at backcourt. Parting with a 1st is risky. For Westbrook, it's a risk may explore further.

Rudy Gay just requested a trade from Sactown. Wonder if Cuban is interested to send Wes Matthews over to California? Aside from being an upgrade in talent, he's an expiring contract i think.

Matthews is much better than Gay. If we trade Matthews, I think we want better offer. By the way, I wonder if we're interested in trading Devin Harris for Vince Carter. We want somebody who can create with the ball in hands. And VC seems to be the right guy to mentor Harrison Barnes, Justin Anderson and so on. Harris won't stay too long with us anyway. We need to get younger and quicker in his role. If Roddy B agrees to rejoin us, I can see Harris being traded. We've some interested summer leaguers at that position, too. This makes me wonder if we want more slashing threats from 1-3.

No, they shouldn't be interested in Westbrook. He's not coming here. He's damn near a lock to go to LA. I think the only way he doesn't end up in LA is if he's traded to a team he actually likes (no that won't be Dallas).

I think the Mavs will still be in the market for a PG though. Lowery maybe? I don't really see him leaving Toronto. Plus I don't really like the way he walked off the court in the playoffs. I also think they will be in the market for a young defensive center. What do you guys think of Noel from Philly?

I think so. The Mavs is probably not his landing spot. But I expect him to pick teams like Orlando, San Antonio and so on to compete for championship instead of being part of rebuilding project.

After Cubans remarks about Westbrook not being a star, a lot would have to be done to ever see Westbrook in Dallas.

Gay had my interest before we elected to sign Barnes, which is fine.

Hopefully we can figure out our PG of the future, in the near future...cause whoever he is isnt on the roster yet, and we dont have much trade assets, I hope it would take ALOT to pry Anderson from us, im expecting a lot from him this year.

And im with everyone, Harris has got to go at some point, hes just not the player he once was and gets used in our multi gaurd lineups and im over it.

I do appreciate what Dwight Powell brings, but would have loved a S&T where we sent him to Toronto for Cory Joseph. I think Tor has a nice young PG ready to take the wings already and need a big man, and Joseph could and should be our starting PG given what we have as other options. Same age, essentially similar contract, Joseph making a little less.

It's too early to make decisions. He's not eligible to trade until 15 December, I think. If we can, we would better find a pick-n-roll playmakers at 1/2. Dion Waiters is the first name come to my mind. I guess he's available in sign-n-trade. I wonder if we're willing to part with Matthews.

There's a reason Waiters is till available, nobody want him. I'd much rather have Matthews.

That's ridiculous, Matthews is our best player.

Devin Harris to Utah Jazz for Jeff Withey and Shelvin Mack, anyone?

Devin has played for Jazz before. He can provide some veteran presence. Jeff Withey provide some shotblocking we may like. Shelvin Mack can provide some playmaking as well. The Jazz now has 16 players on the roster.

I'd love to get Okafor. He was on the trade block this off season around the time of the draft too. Not sure how the Mavs could get him though.

Mavs Trade Thread & Around the NBA Discussion

The NBA has approved the following change to the Hack-a-Shaq rule.

“In looking at the data and numerous potential solutions to combat the large increase in deliberate away-from-the-play foul situations, we believe these steps offer the most measured approach,” said Kiki VanDeWeghe, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. “The introduction of these new rules is designed to curb the increase in such fouls without eliminating the strategy entirely.”

Rules Changes Relating to Deliberate Away-From-The-Play Foul Rules
•The current rule for away-from-the-play fouls applicable to the last two minutes of the fourth period (and last two minutes of any overtime) – pursuant to which the fouled team is awarded one free throw and retains possession of the ball – will be extended to the last two minutes of each period.
•For inbounds situations, a defensive foul at any point during the game that occurs before the ball is released by the inbounder (including a “legitimate” or “natural” basketball action such as a defender fighting through a screen) will be administered in the same fashion as an away-from-the-play foul committed during the last two minutes of any period (i.e., one free throw and possession of the ball).
•The flagrant foul rules will be used to protect against any dangerous or excessively hard deliberate fouls. In particular, it will presumptively be considered a flagrant foul if a player jumps on an opponent’s back to commit a deliberate foul. Previously, these type of fouls were subject to being called flagrant but were not automatic.

Utah already has to find minutes for Exum, Hill, Burks, Hood and Neto at the 1 and 2. Hayward may see some time at the 2, as well.

I imagine they would rather just keep Mack as deep bench cover and Withey has value for them as a back up C.

No way I see them making that deal - I would like it to happen though but mainly for Withey.

Withey, Dedmon, Aldrich... these guys always stood out to me (in the brief cameo appearances they had in games I watched) and their per 36 numbers were impressive. As things stand, it does feel like the Mavs need some veteran insurance, with Bogut being injury prone (and having been averaging less than 25 minutes a game the last 3 years) and only Mejri behind him. Maybe Powell grows lot defensively and can play consistently there.

The Mavs should keep Harris. He's a good leader, sometimes he's the most aggressive player driving to the rim and draws charges. Inconsistent outside shooter and injury prone. He only has $1 million or so guaranteed next year and the team can move on if he has a bad year.

OKC will trade Westbrook before the season start. I wonder if we try to land a star next to Dirk.
