Re: Secret Sauce: The Terry Rozier Thread
Looking back, I'm not sure what the rush was in extending Terry and for that long. He shouldn't be a long term piece for us, and what other team would have been rushing to grab him? Dallas? Maybe?
Just felt like a erratic and premature move. He is good, but not the kind of player you make that long term move on, especially in our quasi rebuild situation.

This after spending multiple first round picks on a couple of projects. The last offseason was so idiosyncratic.

Re: Secret Sauce: The Terry Rozier Thread
One of the problems with Terry is he can be a black hole on offense. When he’s actually hitting his shot, it’s fine and sometimes gives us a jolt of offense when we really need a run. But he’s streaky and has the tendency to take a lot of bad shots after he gets the ball and is committed to taking a shot no matter what. I think it’s more that his role is an opportunity cost to LaMelo and Miles as long as he’s in the starting lineup and the featured scorer. Would he or JB ever accept Terry as a scoter off the bench like Jordan Clarkson or Hero? Because that’s where he’d be most dangerous for us. Problem is he’s got a huge contract now and is featured by this franchise. I just don’t like him playing big mins next to LaMelo as much as I would a more experienced Bouknight.

I think he is gonna be hard to trade. In the modern day game, these 17-21 point scoring guards are a dime a dozen. Literally every team in the league has someone that can do what Terry does.

I might be wrong, but I wouldn't have thought there were that many 20/4/4 guards in the NBA?
Especially ones shooting 44/38/85?
On top of only 1.3 turnovers a game?
And for his production, at $20mil a season he's not outrageously priced.
He's in his prime (27 years old, although towards the back end)
What TRo might lack against them though is prototypical SG size.
Very questionable defence.

Re: Secret Sauce: The Terry Rozier Thread
I was trying to back your claim up on statmuse, and found this interesting nugget:
Only two players averaged 18/3/3 while shooting better than 55 TS% and less than 2 TO per game. We own both of them. Terry and Miles https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=players+averaging+18+ppg%2C+3+rpg%2C+3+apg%2C+%3C2+topg%2C+shooting+55+ts%25+this+season
Lower it to 17ppg, and you get two Sixers in Maxey and Harris.
Terry's ball control has gotten A TON better since he first got here. He's still not a PG by any stretch, but at least now he knows that and everyone's better for it.

Dallas - Brunson, and Diwinddie has proven to be able to do that.
Denver- Jamaal Murray
GSW- Jalen Green will surely be there next year.
LAC - Big Government Reggie Jackson. Norman Powell
LAL - Westbrook
Memphis - Dillion Brooks. Bane.
Minny - Russel
Pels - CJ
OKC - SGA
PHX - Brook
Portland - Ant Simmons
Sac - Fox
Spurs - Murray
Jazz - Clarkson, Mitchell
Hawks - Tre
Celtics - White, Brown
Nets - Kyrie, Goran could prob do it on the right team
Bulls - Lavine
Cavs - Garland, Sexton
Pistons - Cade
Pacers - Brogdon, probably Haliburton
Heat - Herro
Bucks - Jrue
Knicks - Rose maybe. Could be the only team without one.
Magic - Probably Cole.
Sixers - Tyrese
Raptors - FVV, Trent jr.
Wizards - Beal.
Again, Rozier provides nothing that most NBA teams do not already have. Maybe 10 years ago he would have been a very valuable player, but now he is a dime a dozen. Longterm contract was not a good idea. You can nitpick stats if you want to convince yourself Terry is better I guess.

Lol I mean every single player you mentioned are pretty damn good players.

Again, Terry is not a bad player. But he doesn't fit our timeline or our current needs, unless we wanna trade Lamelo. Im not saying he is a bad player, Im just saying extending him long term makes no sense.

Re: Secret Sauce: The Terry Rozier Thread
Yeah I wanna make it clear that I think Terry is a really good player and it’s just a matter of the combination of players we have (and feature) are too heavily weighted towards scoring and give up way too much on defense. There needs to be more balance and I think we have enough to pick up the scoring slack we’d lose if we didn’t have him. I do wish they’d experiment with him in the second unit though. As a SG and not a PG. He is not a PG.

He would be 6th man of the year off the bench, as a starter he makes no sense with Melo.

If Terry didn't wanna play 6th man behind Kyrie and on a potential contender in Boston, then there is no way he will want to play 6th man here in Charlotte

I feel like he's matured and has some level of self awareness now. That maturation was clear by his second season here where he willingly accepted a full-time off the ball role and excelled in it.
Also he's gotten his bag. The exposure needed to get that kind of contract is likely the biggest reason to ask out of that situation in Boston.

True or False:
Terry Rozier and Tyler Herro could've switched teams and roles this season and neither team would've felt any different

Nah from me. He's 30, quite injury prone (mainly serious injuries), and who knows how much he'd cost. Definitely a good player, but I'd rather we run with someone else.

Yeah I'm not sure if he's played a full season combined the last 3 seasons.

If he could stay healthy I'd be for it. He just can't unfortunately. Sucks because he was going to be or already was a stud before injuries took over.
