Hell no to Zach Lavine. He's a losing player, a chucker, and a zero defender.

I agree that adding another guard is a priority, but that guard has to pair well with Maxey. Good defensive player, reliable shot maker, can handle the basketball, isn't on the shorter side.
Alex Caruso comes to mind off the top of my head.

Delon Wright would be the Great Value/Sam's Club version.

Jalen Suggs isn't going anywhere as long as Orlando is winning.

If Memphis implodes, Marcus Smart should be an option. As long as he remembers that he's wearing a Sixers jersey when we play Boston in the playoffs.

Spencer Dinwiddie is probably available, but at what cost?

The guard list is a short one.

Another longer-term target is Killian Hayes. I just don't think we would target him now since we can't wait for him to develop. Otherwise we could give more mins to Springer.

It’s kinda crazy how we’ve come out on top for each of the trades (so far) since the Ben Simmons trade.

Damn his back sounds like it’s just f*cked. I saw those deep sea fishing videos he posted this summer & my first thought was “I wouldn’t be doing that if I had a bad back” lol

LaVine was a target for more desperate times. Ya know, like a few weeks ago.

IDK about all that, but this does fall in line with the "how do I get paid to not play" card he's been playing since passing up the chance to dunk on Trae Young.

The Hawks have to be interested in moving one of Bey, Hunter, and Johnson. Hunter is actually locked up on a cap friendly deal, so he’s probably staying. Johnson has blown up a bit; also sticking around. Bey is expiring and plays/shoots the least. Feels like he’s attainable but would likely require parting with one of Melton or Springer and would prob require a first too.

the bet on LaVine is that he can give us a supercharged version of what Oubre has. You are betting on Embiid's gravity and Maxey's leap as a lead ballhandler opening up things for him to make him more efficient and perhaps even able to try harder on defense. It also places Melton and perhaps Oubre back on the bench to strengthen that lineup.

As great as this current run has been..it has come off the back of Embiid and Maxey averaging 60 with Tobias somehow getting to his 20. Not sure if that is sustainable. Adding another option especially if Oubre isn't the same coming back from his injury is something to think about.

But again that contract..... LaVine would be the final move for the era and IDK if thats how Morey rolls.

No to Lavine! you can see the loser vibes with him.
Also Neo Oubre is a more winning player than Lavine, his first letter is an L for a reason. Oubre has heart and passion, it's evident when you watch him, Lavine is just content collecting paychecks.
None of these players is good enough for dat "last move", say no to max contracts, go get a non hyped player from a dysfunctional franchise. Pistons, Wizards, Hornets, etc, those are the teams.

Black Mage wrote:::EDIT:: I am very tempted to just stash that unprotected Clippers pick; feels like a gold mine that would allow us to bridge a declining Joel with a new youth infusion just as Maxey hits his prime. If we are using that pick it should be for a player that is both talented and youthful.

This has been my thought ever since the Harden trade. If there is a way to fill out this roster and compete now without using that pick, it would be a grand slam. The only way that pick should be included in any trade is if it nets us a player (or players) who will help us win now and also provide that 'bridge' alongside Maxey.

Jailblazers7 wrote:The problem with a Lavine trade is that we need to either trade Tobi or some combo of Batum, Roco, and Melton. I don’t really want to lose any of those players who give us a ton of length at forward for the first time ever.

I wonder if GSW gives him a look. They are really lacking scoring punch but they’d have to trade or fully marginalize Klay, which they seem reluctant to do.

Klay for Lavine would be at the same time the smartest but potentially most destructive trade the Warriors could make right now. It is an instant upgrade for a player who is clearly cooked, and gets them that second scorer they desperately need, but Steph and Green would need to buy in, and that's a long shot.

I hope it happens only because it would take Lavine off the market and prevent Morey from potentially making a dreadful mistake.

Morey is a data guy and loves value. He’d see that contract and go yuck. Basically everything he’s done so far in his tenure is grab the most value he can. Truely spectacular job from where the list was.

Structurally too he usually setups the contracts in a specific way. With Maxey inside the cap (NBA is very weird it’s a super soft capped sport)

It’s 2 max contracts + Maxey + value down the line.

I still think Bane is a target

Can't imagine that MEM would think of moving Bane unless they were punting the season and doing a semi-rebuild.

Hell no to Smart. He and Lavine are automatic no's for me. The Celtics are a much better team just with the Jrue for Smart change, as they knew last year's playoffs would inflate Smart's value and cashed in wisely. Smart defines the term 'fool's gold'.

I'm not saying Lavine isn't a good player and couldn't help us... but what would we give up for him? We'd have to match salary and give up depth, so on the court we might not come out ahead at all after getting him. And that's before any draft picks come into the conversation. Add in the opportunity cost of giving up draft picks that could get someone else instead, and at that point I'm also out on Lavine.

Something else to consider... if Maxey's ascension is real. That is, if he plays at a potential MVP level for the next decade, then we do not have a short window like we have assumed. We probably have at most 3 years with Embiid playing at a level where he can be the #1 player on a championship team. That's still true. But Maxey could be at that level for 8 to 10 years. In light of that, we don't need to sacrifice the future for the present. We can keep the draft picks (especially other teams' picks) and contend for a decade. Only add smaller pieces for now.

Why isn't Springer getting minutes? Is he really that unready for the NBA or is Nurse less willing to give minutes to young players than we would like to admit?

Trade for Lavine depends on how much is our FO’s belief on Maxey. That’s how’d I look at it.

You dont get to be called “The Franchise” if you are going to be the third option. Imagine Kyle Kuzma being called “The Franchise” in that 2020 Lakers squad.

Let's not forget he also cant shoot to save his life. There were quite a few posters on this board that badly airballed their scouting of the kid.

As we learned the hard way, you cannot have an absolute zero threat on offense player and end up playing 4 on 5 with Joel.

With Maxey it's a 7-8 year window, it's ok if we don't win in the next 2 years or so, Embiid's window is not worth mortgaging our future and handing stupid max extensions.
Go get underrated gems like Deni Avdija.
