Jacob Allen in Detriot, MI:
Is Carlos Boozer coming to the pistons in a trade before the deadline or are we heading into a rebuilding mode since we pretty much ate up all our capspace on two bums?

Alex Raskin:
It sounds like Joe Dumars is ready to rebuild. Last summer's signees (two bums as you called them) will stay and I can't imagine anyone would want to acquire Rip Hamilton's deal. Obviously, the team would have to be wowed to give up on Rodney Stuckey. After those guys and Daye and Jerekbo, I think the Pistons are open for business. They have some spare parts that teams might be willing to deal for. Ben Wallace has played extremely well so far this year. Teams that lack a scoring punch off the bench might want Will Bynum. Jason Maxiell is still a force, but he has a player option for the 2012-2013 season, and it would be tough to find someone that wants to pay him $5 million per year through 2013. Bynum and Wallace could net some late first round or second round picks. This roster will be a headache to dismantle, so don't be surprised if the slate isn't wiped completely clean.

TJ in New jersey:
Would the pistons accept a straight up trade of Jason terry for rip hamilton?

Eric Pincus:
They probably consider it although they may be looking for a player with a shorter deal than Terry's.

hi. what do u think of this trade? r.evans for j.maxiell. det saves $ and raps still get solid big.

Eric Pincus:
Reggie Evans hasn't even played yet for the Raptors. I can't see any reason why the Raptors want to take on Maxiell's deal at $5 mil per for three more season

Boozer Wants to Stay Put
The Utah Jazz have been the center of trade speculation for much of the past year, owing primarily to the summer's free agency of Paul Millsap and the apparent dilemma having both him and Carlos Boozer on the team. Many feel Millsap is ready to start, making Boozer superfluous. The Jazz, of course, matched Portland's offer to Millsap and kept Boozer when he didn't choose to opt out of his contract, and with both of them still on the roster we have hangover trade talks. The fact is, however, that the team is really better with both of them in place. Boozer is the team's second-leading scorer at 19.0 points per game and leading rebounder with 10.6 per contest. Millsap has been solid as a reserve, averaging 10.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. The two have even been effective when on the court at the same time. Boozer, for one, thinks the Jazz should keep him and continue to make their playoff push now that they're finally healthy.

"If I was them, I wouldn't make a trade," Boozer told Ross Siler of the Salt Lake City Tribune. "But I'm not them. I think, I mean, you keep this group together. We're getting healthy, guys are getting better, we're rolling, we've won four out of our last five, which is great. "Hopefully, we're going to win another four out of our next five. We can be good. We can beat anybody on any given night. That's what I would do. But Kevin, Greg, they've got to make their decisions."

The Jazz have certainly been good of late, beating Dallas and Cleveland over a stretch of four wins in five games before losing a tight game in Denver on Sunday. The next five look promising, too, as they take on the Spurs, but then see several struggling teams in a row with New Jersey, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento and Dallas on the horizon. It's not hard to see them winning four of the next five, a run that could easily put them in fifth place in the West. We're going to continue to hear trade rumors about Boozer and the Jazz, but the best move may, indeed, be the one Boozer suggests: no move at all.

Milwaukee Officially Signs Stackhouse
Bucks coach Scott Skiles was joking the other night that only a few players remain from his time as a player in the NBA. One of those players - guard Jerry Stackhouse - will join the Bucks on Tuesday and is expected to play on Wednesday when Milwaukee meets Toronto at the Bradley Center.

The Bucks made the 6-foot-6 Stackhouse's signing official on Monday, just about a half hour before they took the court for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee against the Houston Rockets.

Stackhouse worked out for the Bucks coaching staff on Sunday at the Toyota Center and made a strong impression. "He looked good," Skiles said. "He's not in mid-season shape or anything, but considering he's been out so long, he was in surprisingly good shape, we thought. "We're hoping he can do what he's done in his career, come in and score some points. He's always had a pretty high level of toughness. He's not afraid to attack the rim and get to the line."

Parker Defiantly Plays Through Foot Pain
About an hour before the Spurs' 97-90 victory Monday at New Orleans, Tony Parker limped through the tunnel toward the court for warm-ups, hobbling on a left foot still painful with plantar fasciitis.

Though his foot hurt when he awoke in his hotel room Monday morning, there was zero chance Parker wasn't going to play. After all, his foot hurts every morning. The first four or five steps from bed to bathroom often feel like fire shooting through his heel. “I can't look at myself in the mirror and say I can't play,” Parker said. “It's like a nagging injury. I'm not 100 percent, but I can't say I can't play.”

He's been wearing a special sock meant to lessen the effects of his condition, much like the one Duncan used while battling the same condition in 2006. Doctors have told him it will take two weeks to see results.

Celtics-Pistons Preview
Rasheed Wallace was an invaluable presence during his five-plus seasons with the Detroit Pistons, helping them win an NBA title soon after his arrival in 2004. He is having a bit more trouble keeping the Boston Celtics on track without Kevin Garnett. The Celtics will play a 10th straight game without their star Wednesday night as Wallace returns to Detroit for his first appearance against the Pistons since leaving them last summer. Detroit acquired Wallace from Atlanta on Feb. 19, 2004, and the enigmatic big man averaged 13.0 points and 7.8 rebounds during the 2004 postseason as the Pistons captured their third NBA championship. Wallace helped the team return to the playoffs each of the last five seasons before the rebuilding Pistons (14-26) let him go as a free agent. Expected to play a supporting role in Boston, the Celtics (27-12), have had to rely more heavily on the veteran as Garnett recovers from a knee injury. Wallace also missed three straight games last week due to a sore foot, but returned in time for a 99-90 home loss to Dallas on Monday night. He had helped bottle up Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, but Nowitzki sparked Dallas' decisive third-quarter run with Wallace on the bench due to foul trouble. "I thought Rasheed was doing a terrific job on Dirk," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "Not having Kevin ... knowing Rasheed was the only other guy, that put us in a tough situation."

The Celtics went 18-7 without Garnett during the 2008-09 regular season and advanced to within a game of the Eastern Conference finals while he was out with another knee injury. They haven't fared as well without their feared power forward this season, however. The loss to Dallas was Boston's third straight at home as it fell to 5-5 with Garnett sidelined. The Celtics are allowing an average of 99.6 points without the 2007-08 NBA defensive player of the year, nearly eight points higher than with him. "We've been there before. We've won games without Kevin," forward Paul Pierce said. "That's not an excuse." The Celtics were 3-0 against Detroit with Garnett in the lineup last season, but the Pistons won 105-95 at Boston on March 1 while Garnett was out. Garnett said he could return Friday against Portland. "I'm trying to be smart about injuries so that they don't get worse," he told the team's official Web site. "I think I learned that last year the hard way."The Celtics will be trying to avoid a season high-tying third straight loss.

Detroit has dropped 14 of 17. The Pistons followed a 13-game losing streak with three straight victories, but that run ended with a 99-91 loss at New York on Monday.A number of the team's key players were missing against the Knicks, as Ben Gordon, Will Bynum and Tayshaun Prince dealt with injuries while Richard Hamilton was out with an upset stomach. Chris Wilcox played eight minutes before going down with a back problem.Guard Rodney Stuckey led Detroit with 22 points."We were short-handed but we put on a fight," forward Charlie Villanueva said. "... Just didn't get the stops where it really mattered the most, down in the fourth quarter, down the stretch."It's unclear who will be available as the Pistons begin a six-game homestand. Detroit won its last two at home to improve to 10-9 at The Palace, but Boston has won three straight and five of six there, including postseason.

LeBron James scored 28 points and performed a few signature dunks, Mo Williams added 22 and the Cleveland Cavaliers began a long stretch of home games over the next month with a 108-100 win over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night.

Cleveland's Shaquille O'Neal added 16 points and became the fifth player in NBA history to surpass 28,000 in his career.

Chris Bosh scored 21 for Toronto but was limited to just five after halftime.

Dwyane Wade scored 18 of his 32 points in the first quarter as Miami ran out to a commanding early lead, and the Heat went on to beat the Indiana Pacers 113-83 on Tuesday night.

Michael Beasley scored 21 for Miami, which led 36-19 after one quarter and by 23 at one point in the opening half. Wade shot 12-of-20 and passed the career 11,000-point mark with a second-quarter layup.

Brandon Rush scored 17 for the Pacers, who are 4-17 on the road and 0-3 against the Heat this season. The Pacers lost by 13 on their home floor Oct. 30, and now have lost in Miami by 34 and 30 points over the past month.

Pistons expect plenty of 'talk' in Rasheed Wallace's return to The Palace with Celtics
The Palace of Auburn Hills should a be a noisy place Wednesday, and the fans in the stands won’t be the only ones voicing their thoughts. Rasheed Wallace is back in town. Wallace and his Boston Celtics teammates are set to play the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, and the Pistons expect their former teammate to do a bit of trash talking on the court. Actually, they expect him to do a lot of trash talking. “What else would he do?” guard Chucky Atkins said. “He’s a very competitive guy, a very talented guy. He’s a veteran. He’s going to do a lot of talking out there. “But I don’t think there’s going to be any animosity. These guys on this team, they’ve got a lot of love for him, and I’m sure the feeling’s mutual.”

Wallace is averaging 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 23.5 minutes a game for the Celtics (27-12), who are second only to the Cleveland Cavaliers among Eastern Conference teams.Wallace comes off the bench for a team that features stars such as Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen and has fit right in with the Celtics, former teammate Ben Wallace said. “That’s a great fit for him, especially when you’ve got guys like K.G. and Paul and Ray,” he said. “It takes a lot of the attention off him so he can just go out and do his thing.” Ben Wallace said it’s easy to guess what Rasheed will do on the court. “He talks to everybody. That’s his thing,” he said. “He’s going to talk, he’s not going to like calls and he’s going to knock down a couple treys. That’s Rasheed.”

What is unclear is how Pistons fans will react. “He’s going to get booed, and he’s going to get cheered,” Ben Wallace said. “They’re going to cheer for him for the things he did when he was here, and they’re going to boo him because he left and they wish he was still here.”Atkins expects a warm welcome.“He’s a guy who helped them win a championship in 2004,” Atkins said. “I’m sure he’ll receive a lot of love. I hope he does, anyway. “I think it would be hard to boo a guy who helped you win a championship regardless of what the situation is.” No matter what the fans think, it should make for a fun reunion on the court. “It’ll be good. It will make for some exciting basketball,” a smiling Ben Wallace said, “since he’s one of those guys that hasn’t fouled anybody since he got in the league.”

THE GAME WEDNESDAY is the first of six consecutive home games for the Pistons and marks the halfway point of the season. The Pistons (14-26) are 4 1/2 games behind the Chicago Bulls for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Detroit hosts Indiana and Portland this weekend before Memphis, Miami and Orlando come to town later this month.

“We still have an opportunity to make a playoff run,” Atkins said. “I think this part of the season is crucial because we have a chance to make up some games by having a lot of home games. We’ve got to take care of business at home.”

CELTICS FORWARD Kevin Garnett (knee) practiced Tuesday and will travel to Detroit for the game, but he is not expected to play against the Pistons.

Richard Hamilton (stomach illness) and Chris Wilcox (back) are probable, while Ben Gordon (strained right groin) and Tayshaun Prince (left knee) will be game-time decisions. Will Bynum (left ankle) is listed as out.

Morning Shootaround: Helping Haiti, Vote for Midseason Grades, & Dunk Contest Participants
Good morning, DBB. Pistons may have lost to the Knicks yesterday, but they didn't lose any ground on the 8th seeded Bulls, who lost to the three-manned Warriors (seriously, look at the Warriors box score). In other NBA action of note, Rudy Gay dropped 31 on the Suns last night as Memphis won 125-118! I didn't watch Boston lose to the Mavs, but the C's have now lost three of five. Hopefully, the Pistons can add to their mini-slump tomorrow night. In the ROY watch, Tyreke Evans was ESPN's Top Performer yesterday; he put up 34 points and 7 assists in a losing effort to Charlotte. He's good.
