Crime infested is a term/phrase used so commonly it rolls off the tongue, trying to use it as a racist take against black & brown people (which I'm on of) is just ridiculously laughable and shows CNN's bias

Now I'm not defending Trump's comments and stances on certain things when it comes to race, but the use of the word infested, that's just idiotic and moronic.

IMO, this country is irreparably broken. Both Government and Society. I think we overestimate it's ability to heal after Trump. Some bells can't be un-rung.

So do you think if he said crime ridden instead, would that be offensive/racist? I've ehard crime infested used way before Trump even put his name in the primaries, and never once heard it equated to racist until now.

It's a dog whistle. He's saying everything he can without going as far as to say "Baltimore is infested with black people", but that's what he actually wants to say and is trying to communicate to his supporters.

If you can't acknowledge that Trump is being extremely divisive and trying stoke racial resentment here, then you're simply playing dumb.

If in 2019 you think Trump's position on immigration is about economics, his attacks on Ilhan Omar and AOC are about patriotism and his attack on Elijah Cummings is about crime prevention, you are simply an idiot or a complicit racist.

There is no wiggle room here.

No - Trump is a racist and this is just more proof.

Saying you are simply an idiot or a complicit racist is something you can do online - doesn't work so well person to person. But, you don't seem to want to hear that message.

etc. etc.

I don't know if her ideas will work or not - certainly there are issues with some of her policies - but at least the attempts are there and detailed to the point where the intended targets (in this case private equity firms) clearly believe it will work. If anyone is actually for a progressive stance on things with actual attempts at major changes, Warren clearly outstrips Bernie in terms of focusing on policies that actually have a chance of working (not that they will work every time) with plans to put them into force, and being willing to be patient on plans that don't have any immediate fix attempts that have a hope in hell of working and will require long-term gradual change (like universal health care).

She's made mistakes but I still think she's miles ahead of the competition from her particular angle. The only reason not to support her is if you take a completely different angle. And Stoller is right about Trump in that sense, too. Anyone suggesting this is about getting America back to being productive instead subsidized corporate theft and not racism or something like that really should be supporting her rather than Trump. There doesn't seem to be a lot of spillover there, though.

New article in today's WSJ about M4A where they think Sanders/Warren have dug themselves a hole in saying no private insurance (against polling of Ds that don't want that).

I think that Sanders will double down on this at the debates and he will get outflanked. All the other candidates are beginning to hedge. That will be the final downfall of Sanders, IMO.

Let me ask you a question. I believe you had mentioned that are of Indian descent. I recently witnessed an encounter with a client executive I worked with. He was berating his personal assistant for apparently not getting him better seats on a flight and made the following comment "Because of that I had to sit between two smelly Indians. Don't you ever let me have to sit with those people again."

Was he being racist?

Obviously yes, but there's the clear words of smelly Indians and those people used here. I know Trump has said many ignorant things in the past that were clearly racist, the comments about mexicans for example. But in this context, saying crime infested, no I just dont see how thats racist. He didnt call out a race or ethnic group.
