I think DLo maybe traded for Kyrie in the offseason. S&T?

i continue to act like Shai went before our pick to make me feel better about it lol.

Mikal was the safe if not boring pick. It was mocked to us the entire process IIRC so many were very bored of it and wanted something splashier ..... I don't think Zhaire was that splash but also remember that at the time there was thought that the 21 draft was going to be a double draft with HS player allowed to join again..so it was a very coveted pick....turned out to not be and we used it on Tobias sooooooooo. It was a gamble that didn't pay off...its bad but not highest on the large list of franchise killers we have

The big what if in the Mikal/Zhaire situation is what if we didn’t almost kill him with sesame oil? His career got totally derailed and he never recovered.

Definitely would have been nice to sign Kevin Love instead of Dedmon.

The sad part is how blatantly obvious it was to keep him on draft day.

I'll say it over and over - under the radar the worst move of the post-Hinkie years. The fact that it was a totally unforced error makes it that much worse.

Yep...It was an absolute franchise killer. Right there with the Markelle Fultz debacle as well. Actually, I'll excuse the trade with Danny Ainge because I think the majority of us wanted Markelle Fultz. He was viewed as a can't miss prospect and certainly looked like one from what I saw of him in college. The real issue I have is in fact with the Mikel Bridges situation because we did draft him, he was mocked to us, and picking him made the most sense at the time. I mean, you don't get any better of a fit than what we needed and what he brought to the table in terms of skills! I remember being very angry after I found out we traded him. I tuned in on that night long enough to see us pick him and turned the TV off. I thought it was simply a done deal and one of the easier picks we had ever made. Can you imagine? Bridges on this current roster?

There are two ridiculous things going on at the moment. First, the idea that Bridges was considered to be more than an average role player at the time of the draft. And second, the idea that he's some kind of superstar now.

It would be great to have him. It would be great to have any wing that could play starters minutes. But the **** moaning is getting out of control. He's a role player.

IDK man, you may be right, but he also had some valuable growth in Phoenix. I truly believe that playing with Chris Paul on a team that went all the way to the Finals provided the same invaluable experience that Kawhi Leonard got during his early years with the Spurs. Kawhi was just a role player with them as well and he really expanded his game. Not saying that Bridges is on his level, but he's going to have the green light in Brooklyn and he did just score 45 points the other night. Role players I guess can do that from time to time, but I think he's more than that, and he was absolutely a big time miss with this franchise. We should have kept him.

Exactly. I want to say a lot of things but im just enjoying reading the convo at the sideline and im like.. “lets see how this goes once Mikal reverts back to his 17ppg with average at best defense normal self”

The franchise killer was the 2013 draft. Even Morey said he can’t believe how we passed up Giannis twice when we were star hunting and have nothing to lose. Giannis is also not that of an unknown, there are several GMs who has Giannis on their radar and were either keeping him as a secret or trying to trade up to draft him(https://podcasts.apple.com/ph/podcast/re-air-the-giannis-draft-ep-1-who-is-giannis/id1470466331?i=1000529480371 <= listen to that series) It also does not make sense selecting two role players in the lottery. A guard who can’t shoot and a big with a physique of a guard. And its worse when we traded an all NBA caliber guard in Jrue Holiday for a big with a lot of red flags.

If we just played the 2013 draft right, we could be talking of making the finals as early as 2018.

And the second worst franchise killer was either the drafting of Ben and the sunk cost that came with it.

The sunk cost that came along with Ben was really bad because you have a lot of data at that point and less guessing. You know what player Ben is, you know the situation of the team and you know what player Jimmy or Kawhi are, but still we chose Ben. And it aint so bad because Ben turned into James Harden.

then the third would be the Fultz for Tatum trade. But like Mikal, nobody saw it coming for the Fultz for Tatum trade and we need someone who can run the PnR at that time. And without that mysterious injury, I’d still select Fultz over Tatum because of how valuable guys like Fultz is nowadays. And it aint so bad because Fultz turned into Maxey.

Now going back to Mikal, the guy we should cry for is SGA. Not Mikal. SGA’s numbers is GOAT level numbers.

This should keep us busy until the next game day

Has any NBA geek done a deep dive on all the team's last ten year drafting and trade history to work out which team is the biggest clusterfcuk who wasted their resources & chances of rings?

^ this is why Maxey has to step up if you want us to win the championship. He’s gonna be the key for us to win the championship. He should be a top 50-70 player atleast.

Let’s say you can trade Shake Milton, 2023 1st and 2024 1st (lotto protected) for Andrew Wiggins. Would you do it?

Harden
Melton
Wiggins
Tobias
Embiid

Hell no. If Shake started and played as many minutes as Wiggins, he would have equivalent production.

Interesting how Suns easily replaced Mikal Bridges by Josh Okogie.

Hard to say no after seeing Wiggins defense in the Finals last year. Normally 2 firsts would be a steep price but that just seems like the cost of doing business these days.

Kawhi finished second in MVP voting at age 24. Mikal is 26.
