Indirectly, sure. And let's hope this final round of elite free agent rejecting the Knicks will put them on the same position. Looks like that's what Perry is trying to do. He has a more talented group of young players to work with than Marks had (and more resources). So hopefully things work out.

it's true that tanking wasn't an option when they were out of picks. they also used cap space to bring in dlo and brought him into that culture.
Yeah good points but the Nets being better than the Knicks as a mediocre playoff team seems overrated as far as what drove KD there. And Kyrie.
They didn’t want the savior role. They wanted NY on their terms.
Still seems more about avoiding the Knicks than being able to join the “very successful” Nets. That’s a joke.
KD didn’t have the stomach for it and maybe his injury played a big role.
reports suggest KD was perfectly fine with the knicks, but didn't want to come alone. i'd have done the same if my boy and i were planning to be a package deal. kyrie said, "do what you want. i'm going to the nets tho." and KD went there. and the knicks also might not have been willing to take the plunge on him without whatever else he wanted.
i think the state of the nets had a lot to do with why kyrie made his choice so firmly, then a wavering KD went with the better situation. also, nets have his preferred doc on their training staff.
"they didn't want to save the knicks" sounds like an easier explanation than what's actually on the table in both situations.

Do you really think a backup pf/c for $15m/year is not an overpay?
It it what it is, but they definitely overpaid all these contracts, in order to get more team flexibility. They can dump them all next year, and do it again.
K.Looney and WCS wouldn't of signed with us for the prices they signed with a championship team for.

Well yeah i think it's pretty obvious that offensively WCS and Looney can't hold a candle to what Portis does and can do and obviously defensively is where WCS and Looney have the advantage but with us already having Mitch, who i think will be better than both WCS and Looney and probably already is better means Portis was easily the better fit for what we need.
My part of that debate was he was saying we missed out on getting WCS or Looney on cheap deals instead of what we paid for Portis but those two signed that cheap because it was GSW and wouldn't of signed that cheaply with the Knicks.

They are losing D.Russell who obviously Kyrie is better than but DLo was the biggest part of that team winning last year, not the only part obviously cause they still had guys like J.Allen (who's so much better that D.Jordan) J.Harris, Dinwiddie and other good young pieces but DLo was the main part IMO to their success. Then all the talk about that team was how much every single player got along with each other and the great chemistry they had, now much of that goes away and Kyrie isn't gonna help in that part but i do believe D.Jordan will cause he's a great teammate and communicator on the court. I still say they win more then they did last year but wouldn't it be pretty dam hilarious if they didn't and the Knicks end up not too far behind them in the east next year.

Without Durant, this team looks a lot like the young Celtics that Kyrie totally destroyed.
Dinwiddie as Rozier
Lavert as Tatum
Harris as Brown
Jordan as Horford
Allan as Morris
Temple as Smart
RHJ as Haywood
And of course, the captain of it all.... Kyrie as himself
Ummmmmmm......nope. Each Boston and Nets player you have compared to each other the Celtics have the better player.

Re: Offseason Thread - So Begins The Lesser Offseason - Well... After Kawhi Decides
i mean I would hate it because we literally have zero perimeter defense but I guess I would understand with the complete glut of guards we have someone isn't going to be playing.
Would rather trade DSJ with Payton and we would get more return in theory for DSJ than Frank...but at this point what is Orlando going to give us? A 2nd round pick? We don't need the cap space...would seem silly to me.

Yep, that and the Nets had to renounce RHJ to fit KD and Kyrie's contracts so he's not even going to be on the team this upcoming season.
The Nets are losing 5 players that contributed to last years team. DLo, Demarre Carrol, Rondae Hollis Jefferson, Ed Davis and Shabazz Napier. The franchise doesn't win games, the players do. And these 5 players were key components of last years success.
Now they could try to sign productive vets for the vet minimum but without KD this upcoming season is clearly not a contending season so I don't see any bandwagon jumping vets latching on for the vet min.

Or we are waiting to see if someone breaks out in summer league before signing Kareem.
Or we are waiting to see ir he receives others bids to match as a RFA.
Kadeem is on a 2-way. He’ll probably have his contract converted to a regular deal.
He also deserves props for this
I like him a lot - i hope we never lose him- i think he has a bright future...
He made me a fan with what he did for us last year for sure but if the two max player thing is still the plan whether that be this year (by trade) next year or the next then we're gonna eventually have to lose some of the young guys like K.Allen, D.Dotson, A.Trier, Frank which is gonna suck cause i really like all 4 of them for what they can do for us.
K.Allen--his defense, shooting and taking it to the basket. Now the question on him is was he just a really good G-Leaguer who over produced on a bad team or is he that guy we saw last year.
D.Dotson--I've loved this kid since we drafted him. He can definitely shoot the thing, defense is pretty dam good and he's not a selfish player. Now there were times where i think he would hold back too much cause i think he can be even better than what he showed last year if he wasn't hesitant to shoot a lot of times.
A.Trier--This kid is a dog. He can take to the basket like a champ and get to that foul line but i wish he would of took more 3 point shots cause he was a great shooter at Arizona and think he was more about taking it to the basket then shooting last year.
Frank--Dam it Frank i love ya kid and still do think you've been held back by our coaches from growing but if he doesn't get right in his own head with his confidence in his shooting then he'll never be that guy we all want him to be. Love the defense and the court vision isn't horrible but really don't think he's a PG and would be better at the wing and probably even the 3 more then the 2.

it seems like the writnig is on the wall.
brought in Payton...already have DSJ
Fiz has some wierd hard on for Kadeem Allen (even though I like him) he's not a game changer on defense
You add in RJ, Ellington additions to already Dotson and Trier
where are the guard minutes for Frank?

What is Orlando offering now that they weren't offering last trade deadline and at the draft 2 weeks ago?
