I understand the general timing. They probably waited til draft day to see if Masai was able to pull off a big trade. When it didn't happen they decided to move on.
But the specific timing sucks for the rookies man. So tone deaf.

Presti is not coming here. This isn’t like some free agency situation where teams have carved out cap space. If Presti were on the market everyone gets to bid and we’re not competing with the likes of Lakers (who just got sold to guy worth $10b) or other major market teams.
If he's under contract and by some miracle we convinced him to come here, the compensation would also be ridiculous. I think we are talking at least
2 FRP's, likely 3. Which then makes you ask the question why would he come here still with this roster and losing that many draft assets lol
Presti would recoup that draft value by the end of his lunch break.
Well, he doesn't have a PG13 to trade to LAC for 10 draft picks this time. lol

This is such limited thinking. No reason to not sniff around Presti to see if we can pry him from the Thunder. The worst that can happen is he says no but we’ve planted a seed for when he becomes available. It’s not like we couldn’t also be interviewing other candidates
lol you mean like the Knicks going around begging to interview every current coach and getting rejected?
So you’d rather not even bother putting out feelers than try and get rejected? That’s playing scared.

Lmao Masai's 10 million is being split into a bonus for Rogers executives.

Not sure that’s any way to run a business.
Every single player that was ‘held too long’ played a highly productive role on teams that went deep into the playoffs
So what you're saying is that Masai was too incompetent to build a winning successful team around them, or that he held onto them too long and didn't get enough for how good they are?
Like you're literally pointing out ways he screwed up. If those players were so good we should have kept them, but considering we kept them for multiple years, why did we achieve nothing with them. Kinda painted yourself into a corner there bud.
I don't see how it's such a difficult take for people to understand the ownership didn't want to spend so much money on a guy not really providing any results and that they can get someone cheaper to do the same. This isn't even me defending the firing, quite frankly I'd rather keep him than letting Bobby run wild as GM, but like damn, it's a money decision.
I think there are a lot of fans who became fans after the championship and have no idea what a bad FO looks like. Some things are worth overpaying.

lmao we don't have a Paul George on our roster to steal a future MVP and a billion picks

Exactly this.
I think it is more about Ed disliking Masai.

Outside of the PG trade he’s found tons of ways to stack picks. There’s a reason he’s executive of the year.

This has everything to do with Bobby understanding Masai's philosophy by now and ownership not wanting to pay him a huge deal.
Sucks but that is the nature of this ownership. They try to save where they can

How do you know this? Bobby has a CBA/cap expertise background. What evidence is there he’s an integral part in scouting when that is both Masai’s and Tolzman’s area of expertise?

More analysts than Bill Simmons have questioned the direction of the team.
Maybe now we can move forward and not chase after Giannis and put together a modern team. I assume Bobby is next to go if they bring in a new executive. Let's revamp the whole FO over the next year. Truly rebuild this team.
But we supposedly extended Webster. So we have all the same decision makers except Ujiri. And if we bring in a new president, wouldn't that guy want someone of his own? This move just doesn't make sense. I think they just wanted Ujiri out.
I didn't know that before posting. Weird move to extend Bobby and the others while parting ways with Masai. I guess they bought into the overall direction of the team and just felt that $15m is too much to pay Masai this year if they came to the conclusion that Masai would be asking for too much to continue on. He was one of the league's highest paid executives.
I do remember that teams like Washington had been poking around to scoop up Masai, so maybe he has the next deal in place and they let him go knowing they won't have to pay him. Masai doesn't strike me as a guy who let things happen to him. He was probably the instigator.
If they do hire a Masai replacement it is just a matter of time before Bobby and the others are fired. It just takes a lot of time for replacing execs. typically.

But not me and several others
I'm with you but ill-Will03 is right that we will see witness true incompetence: Bobby is now the sole decision maker at the top.
