i walked by there and it was crazy. earlier on by the (shadier) queen street side there wasn't a ton of people set up but that area in the picture was PACKED. eventually as the afternoon went on the entire park filled up but it was shocking. from queen street it looked like there was a festival or something.

the sidewalks were no different though. for stretches there were people lined up on both sides of the sidewalk and then people trying to pass in between them, leaving next to no clearance. it was like trying to fit four cars into a three-lane road.

...and how many of those groupings are of people living in the same house/condo/apartment? I'm going to guess...some...but not most. And among all of those groupings...there may well be a few asymptomatic positives...and there will no doubt be some spread from that little get together. It takes one asymptomatic positive to spread it to 3 or 4 other buddies and that is how community spread happens.

It took one person going to night clubs in South Korea to have things go back into lockdown. Smh hope we catch a break but my God this could be horrible.

Man... and this just keeps getting better for those people at Trinity Bellwoods Park

https://www.cp24.com/news/several-tickets-issued-at-crowded-trinity-bellwoods-park-after-people-spotted-urinating-defecating-in-driveways-backyards-1.4952192

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders says several tickets were issued at Trinity Bellwoods Park on Saturday after people were spotted defecating and urinating in the driveways and backyards of homes nearby.

"A lot of complaints were coming in from the residents, people urinating, people defecating on their properties," he said. "When you've got an elderly woman opening the door and seeing someone defecating, it is quite bothersome."

Kudos to all the posters who link GOV official sites!

Here are the numbers were i am from last i checked.

1433 out of the 1896 Ottawa cases were linked to outbreaks from insinuations.

We've only had 179 community transmitted cases.

10 bucks says NBA, MLB and NHL will not restart until at least December and NFL will try to restart but will ultimately be forced to suspend sometime in October.

34 cases in Canada outside of Ontario (404) and Quebec (573) today. The frustration with these two provinces, especially the largest centres will continue to grow across the rest of the country.

Many people I know aren't taking the quarantine seriously anymore. If this keeps up, the government will need to get strict and start fining people for being morons. We clearly aren't disciplined enough for loosened restrictions.

I hope the rest of the provinces restrict travel from Ontario and Quebec.

Not surprising. The collective IQ of everyone in that park is near 0. Police should have tear gassed them.

Not sure a bunch of folks coughing, rubbing their eyes and running around in a group would have been a good plan.

Everything being implemented now in society has no proven scientific history as a lockdown on this scale globally for this long.

The only thing useless is being a close minded individual and interpreting your own opinion as fact.

Huh? The article was useless. It tried the old appeal to authority fallacy by saying here's a Nobel winner and he says X, but it was just a guy with no expertise in anything related saying a few off the cuff things. IE: "interpreting his own opinion as fact". So by your own criteria, it's a pretty useless article. Thanks for agreeing with me, I guess.

You also seem to be under the mistaken belief the there is some kind of global lockdown that has occurred. There are large differences between what each province and state are currently doing, let alone countries around the world.

The truth is, whatever each city/region/province/state/country is implementing, no ones know exactly how things will turn out. In that sense, everything is "novel".

The only methods we know are effective are how the places like Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, China etc have done. And that's not happening in Canada because of human rights issues, the general public, and the lack of resources here in relative terms.

I did, and your article states what I've said. Very few areas besides the far east has handled this optimally. The different levels of government not working together only compounds issues.

Social distancing is generally considered the best way yes, but the problem IMO for say Ontario and western countries by in large is that we've reacted only once it was well past the containment phase. As such, any draconian lockdowns once past the containment phase has to balance damages from a public health and economic stand point. As of now, the results are mixed at best.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist or someone who believes that the government is out to get us, but at the same time I don't personally believe many of the current measures will move the needle the way that we want, and the economic damage we see now is just the tip of the iceberg.

It also doesnt help when we get contradicting messages from our various leaders or persons in positions of authority. Doug Ford preached social distancing yet 2 of his 4 daughters who dont live with him came over for dinner. That's the exact same concept as what happened at Trinity Bellwoods if we're being honest.

I personally know many people (colleagues, friends) who are still having weekly family gatherings with family not in their household because their parents accept the risks. Bottom line is, we as a society as a whole are not falling in line with what is being asked for many reasons, and as such it'll take forever if we are to get to what the government wants before they continue to expand reopening.

Right. So what we've established is that you posted a pretty bad article, and I found you a better one. You're welcome.

"In Canada, the individual rate of death from COVID-19 for people under 65 years of age is six per million people, or 0.0006 per cent. This is roughly equivalent to the risk of dying from a motor vehicle accident during the same time period."

Not necessarily. And if you feel you're right then all the more power to you.

I came here for a discussion in good faith, and the premise I've said since the start remains. We all have our opinions and what's working and whats not. Have a nice day.

Why are we opening up cooling centres? I don't know how popular these are, but if they attract a crowd, it sounds like it will just increase the risk of spread. Unless someone is old or sick, they can live without AC for a few days (maybe just limit these places to that demographic?).
