Jo had 15/14/3 and Gasol had 12/4/3. Jo was +13, Gasol was -12. I guess he didn't show up, yeah...

It's not about Gasol, but overall Grizzlies type of defense that manages to hold Jo without easy baskets.
should have 30 pts instead of 14 with poor efficiency

Yes, and Simmons should shoot better FT% instead of 3/8, but what can you do, they are not perfect.
I already said Embiid offense is a bit overrated, he keeps his efficiency by going to the line, he has ok but not elite touch around the rim, in reality he is not as talented offensive player as it may seem, he also has issues establishing deep post position against centers with above average strength because of weak legs and center of gravity. He is also not great as a shooter, yeah he can shoot threes but not with good percentages.
To make matters worse, he is not the same athlete he was before all the injuries, he is not as fluid anymore, he had better footwork before, though it is still solid most of the time.
He worked very hard learning to shoot, improved his FT% greatly since college, and added those tricks to get to the line. He hasn't coasted on talent at all.

Considering how easily Jo scored when Gasol came off the floor, I'd say it is about Gasol. He's one of the best defensive bigs in the game. Too big to get bullied and too disciplined to pick up the cheap fouls Jo is so amazing at drawing.

IMHO the main thing that has to translate from College to NBA is mindset.
If your mindset and your athleticism are going to translate, you will become a Joel;
If your mindeset translate and you athleticism not, you will become a TJ;
if your mindest not translate but your athleticsm yes, you will become a KJ McDaniels (or a Noel or a Fultz); if neither are translating, you are Okafor.

As simple as that. :D

You have to have the basic physical talent though, and while Okafor has the basic physical skill to score against anyone, the rest of his game isn’t NBA quality.

For KJ McDaniels he was just a great athlete. He didn’t have the skill level that you need.

Embiid has EVERYTHING you could want in an NBA prospect other than health. He has all of the skill, all of the work ethic, all of the competitive fire, all of the intelligence, and all of the physical dominance. He is/was as complete and perfect of an NBA prospect that has ever been seen.

So far he had avoided the foot problems, which we all hope and expect(at this point) to be behind him.

There are loads of guys with the right intangibles for the league that don’t have the physical talent to survive. You need both to be great though.

To be great? Yeah you need both I agree with you.
But imho to stay and play in this league, mindset (aka commitment, passion for the game, work ethic, managing pressure, accountability etc.) triumphs over raw athleticism every day.

And about 90% of players in NBA are not "great".

Great article. Talks about how Embiid is better than the post that Shaq (Heat), Embiid's defense and our defensive scheme and just his growth from where he started from to where he is now.

Lot of “have you guys noticed how great Embiid is?” articles these days.

Tomorrow is the biggest Sixers game since last year’s playoffs. If we go into the team with the best record’s house on national tv and win with Embiid having 35 and 15 then our national reputation, and HIS mvp credentials will explode.

It will be a tall order, and I’m not saying that it will happen, but it is a HUGE opportunity for the Sixers and Embiid.

I just don’t get okafor. Brook Lopez barely can play defense either and has lasted in the nba. It’s not like he’s this even average 3 point shooter. Okafor is a guy who needs to play lots of minutes to have some sort of offensive impact. Him playing 5 minutes isn’t gonna to do anything.

Brolo can stationarily protect the rim and shoot 3, easier to hide. And he found the perfect complimentary player in Giannis.

Problem with Okafor is more with his offense. Without letting him score on ISO, he's not that useful. And if you let him score on ISO, your offense is not that good in points per possession. There will be some match-ups where he can be good like in those games against the Mavs back then. But that's situational only, thus the limited minutes

I know, but the guy that really killed us was Derozan, and he is gone. This is a different team, and we are a different team now too.

We should be underdogs for tomorrow’s game, but if we DO win with a dominant performance from Embiid, then it is going to shift the narrative of the season so far.

Yeah Okafor's issues were on offense just as much as defense.

Lopez has always been an effective offensive player. Also very underrated at boxing out.

Either that or Jimmy steps up and make him and Kawhi net zero. Then it's Embiid versus these mortals.

I have always been a big Embiid fan but he's been bad in the last games and yesterday he embarrassed himself. He couldnt create good shots offensively and he was highly inefficient as a result and defensively he was overpowered and overwhelmed, more importantly he had no competitive spirit-he was playing like Okafor. He was atrocious and i think we may have been overrating him a bit, i am not sure how many of the great centers have had such an embarrassing two way performance against players of Ibaka's and Valanciunas' caliber.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
