He looks a legit 6-7 or 6-8 w/ a frame to fill out & moves well out there. I’m seeing Mikal Bridges & young Paul George potential for sure.

It’s similar to when San Antonio got Kawhi because they needed a wing with size & it ended up extending their window.

Only difference is, our best guys are still in their primes & he looks like a legitimate piece.

Yup he definitely plays bigger than the 6’5.25” that he measured

I thought he measured 6'6.5"?

6' 5.25'' without shoes.

NBA.com has a nice listing going back years for guys who actually measured.

Kicking it back to the 90s to find a reasonable comp for MarJon…how about Richmond’s own Johnny Newman? They seem to have very similar athletic/physical profiles, although MarJon might rebound a little better. Any old timers care to comment? I seem to remember him being a pretty decent defender, but I was pretty young during Newman’s hay day…

Newman was not a good defender, so I hope not.

I really like how he closes out on jump shooters without fouling. That’s a hell of a skill.

Idk about that comp, though I appreciate the out-of-the-box reach back to the past. (Speaking of mixing present-past, I didn't love the XX soundtrack for the youtube video; Johnny Newman demands some golden age of hip-hop/new jack swing!!) I remember Newman as a great finisher, great hops. I don't know if he would fit into the league today, unless he was basically a small guy in the dunker-spot on offense.

Marjon background i wrote for a friend i figured id post here so we are all on the same page

So he was a top aau prospect in highschool, 5 star. Mvp of one of the hardest aau leagues as a junior and was going head to head against alot of guys from the 2021 draft class and holding his own. Then he decided instead of going to college he would go to a private training facility in san fran called chamelon BX that was run by former nba coaches because he wanted to work on his body and add muscle (and rumor is he had some academic problems that woulda made getting into some colleges tough, however he did have lots of offers from alabama georgetown washington and usc.)

So he joins this private facility and then covid hits and cali shuts everything down. Hes stuck lifting alone in his apartment and trying to find outside courts to play in and spirals into lonliness and depression and moves home.

Basically is forgotten and is about to quit ball all together, when his childhood friends convince him to come play for their team at the local community college, where he remembers why hes loves basketball and also dominates. Then with the some help from jamal crawford he gets a try out for the g league ignite and makes the team. He becomes the 2nd leading scorer on a team with a bunch of greedy guards and a coach who admitted he never ran a play for him.

Hes an elite 5 star prospect who because of covid and his choices kind of got forgotten by the league.

At 24 you have to roll the dice. Late picks generally don't make it but he's shown enough that it's encouraging.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

His game is somewhat reminiscent of Mykal Bridges.

Agreed, hope that you found a guy a bit older because he slipped through the cracks somehow.

I've noticed his conditioning isn't quite there yet and most of the lulls in his play, he seems to be gassed. Now I haven't noticed how that is impacting his shooting, if his big misses come when he is gassed, but his defense, awareness and activity stall a bit.

I think when he gets stronger, better conditioned and more reps, along with more time in the system, we might have something pretty useful. Quietly putting up 15 pts a game while contributing elsewhere is a pretty encouraging start to his career.

His draft slot means nothing to the specific player.

Have to imagine Marjon is going to be in Milwaukee all summer getting work in. If that's the case he's going to be much better by the time camp rolls round.

Gobert and Siakam were the 27th pick in weak drafts. Jimmy Butler was 30th. Dejuante Murray was 29th. Maybe he won't be any of those guys and just a solid role-player, but I don't know why we always put ceilings on guys based solely on draft slot. Hard to not be incredibly impressed with all the tools he's already shown.
