His trend line is pointing in the right direction. It seems clear watching him that he has an advanced understanding of how to play the game. His passing is well above average and he is a fine rebounder for a wing. His head is in the game defensively. When the offense gets to consistent 20-23ppg level (per 36 minutes), and he gets to the line 5-7 times per game, then we are getting what we paid for.

I feel a helluva lot more optimistic about that taking place this season than I did a week ago. And if it does, then we have a chance to contend and win no. 18. If that doesn't happen, our chances are slim and none.

The first question is, will he make it back 100%? If the answer to the first question is yes, then you ask, how long will it take? The last two games have been encouraging, but the jury's out.

This is such a simpleton way of thinking. Any player in the league could be done with one play. I never played at the NBA level obviously, but I played in college and had awful injuries, both in HS and college. And I didn't forget how to play. And bringing in the $30m player issue is the nature of the business. For the love of all that is good, give it a little time. People are so damn negative in this world; it's sad.

Bah humbug!

He's not there yet, but for me his recent play removes any doubt I had about whether or not he was ever worth the max.

Imagine a world where he never was injured! Not only would we have made the finals last year, but I have no doubt that his chemistry with Horford and Kyrie would be off the charts by now. 24-8-6 would be easily within his grasp. We would constantly be on triple double watch with him.

That said, the injury did happen. Recovery takes time. He might never get all the way there. I'm not gonna get mad at DA and BS for this signing. They clearly know how to evaluate talent better than any of us.

He's had two 30+ point games and nearly a triple double yesterday, that's the ceiling/potential.

We know what he can do, he just needs more confidence and consistency which he will get by the playoffs.

Sort of reminds me of Andrew Luck. Luck had those bad injuries that kept him out for a full season after being one of the best promising QBs in the NFL. Early in the season for several weeks when the Colts started 1-5 people said Luck looked completely done. Took him some time to get back on track but now he just won a playoff game and has been dominating again. And like Gordon, Andrew Luck is a smart good guy and they are close in age. The Indy connection don't hurt either, pretty sure Gordon is smiling over his Colts.

He should be starting at Point now and run Kyrie at the 2. Kyrie came here to be a lead guard but it's clear he's best deployed as an Iverson/Kobe like weapon

This. We've been down on him,

But a not recovered Hayward has had two games bether than Terry, Tatum or Jaylen have had their entire careers.

Honestly, Hayward doesnt have to get back to 100% to be our 2nd best player.

Hayward being a right dominant player means most of his drives and dunks jumping off one foot is gonna come off that left ankle. He just need more time to regain confidence in landing and embracing force as he explodes from the air.

putting this post in the Hayward Thread but it's actually more about Brad Stevens. Let me preface this by saying that I love Brad Stevens. Obviously, he's a great coach. But for the first time that I can remember, I have a major beef with Coach Stevens. WHY DOES HE STILL HAVE GORDON HAYWARD TWIDDLING HIS THUMBS IN THE CORNERS?????? The Celtics have so much movement/action at the top with guys like Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier, and Marcus Morris. Meanwhile Hayward is standing in the corner. I'm no basketball genius, but I feel like it's pretty obvious that Gordon Hayward needs to be at the top making decisions, being aggressive and making plays. NOT Terry Rozier. NOT Jaylen Brown. Not Marcus Morris. None of those guys can create for others. Hayward can. And none of those guys have the track record scoring that Hayward has either.

THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. WHY BRAD!???

He's passive too. Way too passive.

Problem is that Brad lets Terry run the offense way too much; he's been garbage all season. Terry just shoots the ball every time he gets it. Every f****** time.

Hayward needs to A) Be more selfish and shoot more, we know he's capable and B) Run the offense more. The Celtics' bench offense only works when Terry is a spot-up shooter and not running the offense into the ground.
