Lauri and Carter are big men. It's basically impossible for star big men to salvage things. Even if you've got star bigs, you can still easily find yourself in the lottery or barely in the playoffs.

Joel Embiid & Anthony Davis might have something to say about that.

I don't think the contract hampers us much at all, I don't understand why so many are freaking out. Who was gonna come here that won't come here now?

Do we know how the deal is structured year by year? Also how can Zach come back from saying what he said? It’s not cryptic it’s pretty obvious who he was referring too. Can’t just sweep it under the rug like he didn’t say it.

This is just inaccurate. I have no idea why we keep seeing it.
The Bulls were worried about paying Jimmy 200+ mil contract not the 19.5 he was making.

Gerald Green tier player with a crap season, mediocre career, coming off an ACL tear. Better match that $80M quick.

Meanwhile Nwaba probably can't even get a 3 year $15M contract after a great year.

Basketball reasons...

The idea "but we would have lost him for nothing" is beyond stupid. If some team offered Cris Felicio 4/60 would you lament how you lost him for nothing?

Players are assets based on their own play and their contract. That's it. At 19.5 million, it's hard to see how Zach is an asset. There are very few assets in the league who do as little overall as Zach does. For all the love of his scoring, he was ok efficiency wise as a third option who played a good 30 games then a fairly bad 15 games BEFORE tearing his ACL and atrocious last year as a #1 option. Sure he'll improve in some areas but he won't be good and he's the type of contract that you just can't wait to expire.

Good teams don't sign these contracts as the first piece of a rebuild. Maybe the last piece where he fits a role but basically Zach and his contract is more likely to harm you and your desire to draft/acquire talent than it is to let you organically build a team. Hell, it maybe already did with the Bulls falling in love with Hutchison instead of potentially moving up or trading higher in the draft with that pick because they felt he was a long-term fit next to Zach.

Rose was amazing before his torn ACL.

Lavine was literally the exact same player as he is now.

LaVine haven't improved his game in his 4 season's in NBA.
He haven't improved his game during the time players should learn quicly. Why would anyone think he could improve his game in the future when he finally got paid huge money. What you saw will be best you will ever get from him (shooting will go nearer the Minnesota level, but that's all). It is nice to see someone is positive about him, but there are lots of players who are just happy to get to the nba and are not willing to do any true work to improve them selves and sadly I think LaVine belongs to this category.

The heck are you talking about? That is bull crap. He has steadily improved from rookie to when he hurt his ACL. When we started him over Kevin Matin in year 2 I thought Flip was crazy but LAvine was up to the task. His jumpshot alone got so much better. He didn't go from scrub to Kobe Bryant but to sit there and say he hasn't improved... come on son.

His efficiency haven't improved. He just shoots more. When he is on court team loses more than when he sits. This happened in Minnesota too. So we have a player who just shoots, but I give him that he is better than average scorer. But when he is on court team loses way more than when he is sitting. Rest of the team is lousier with him because his vision and basketball IQ are low and he is worst defender in Bulls and was in Minnesota. You can say he is improved, but I just see a player who plays more and shoots more, but he is still the same player when he stepped on the court in the first time. If you just follow him when he is playing 1vs1 I can see people like him, but if you follow what he does rest of the time you see he is not a good NBA player. He is awful on everything else. So I still think he is still the same player. No real improvement.

As long as the Bulls can clear max cap space in 2020 and draft/develop quality players, all is not lost. Hopefully LaVine proves his worth as well.

It's about more than that. It's about the entirety of a flawed process ending in matching the Kings in stupidity.

Joel Embiid & Anthony Davis might have something to say about that.

Davis is good evidence that even elite big men can struggle to move the needle given how unsuccessful his career has been thus far despite crazy personal stats.

Embiid is a different breed. We don't have an Embiid. But even he runs into trouble as you can't close games with a 7'2" guy.
