Reddish looked like he was on his way out of the league before he remembered how to play basketball against the Bucks last year. And it really makes me wonder why Atlanta wants to trade him if he's doing well for them so far.

I'd rather just draft a Cam Reddish than pay him a kings ransom in a year or so.

What the heck.. I didn't even realize how cheap Sabonis is.... He's only making 18mil AAV and has 3 years left on his deal. (Was under the impression that he was signed to a max deal)

Should the Raptors consider doing OG + Flynn for Sabonis ?

FVV
Trent
Barnes
Siakam
Sabonis

That's a pretty well balanced lineup. Sabonis is only a year older than OG.
With Sabonis you're also getting a guy that is actually durable and you can count on to suit for big games.
OG returns to Indiana as well.

Thoughts?

Why not go to the Euroleague for help?

I'd say Sabonis is the better player, but OG would be the more impactful in our lineup. Apparently Domas hated Bjorkgrens (based on Nurse's) defensive systems, and much prefers to drop down. I also don't put much stock in OG's games missed, as it's been scattered, and mostly just plain bad luck circumstances.

I'd rather see the Raptors hop in as a third wheel to move our expirings for contracts ending 2023 and sweetener. This should help put some new pieces on the bench - hopefully something sticks so the team doesn't s*** the bed when the starters need a breather.

Yeah. I'm sure any guess/prediction will be wrong, but it's a fairly straight line to this:

1. 10th pick or so, draft a ballhandler to run the bench unit
2. In 2023, trade Birch's expiring final year and an MLE contract and a future first for a starting center

Center/Precious
Siakam/Barnes
Barnes/OG
OG/Trent
Flynn/2022 1st

and Banton is the final rotation guy

There is a pretty good opportunity to fill those gaps right now if we can land Sabonis and Lavert. Of course it will require trading a core piece and a bunch of draft capital.

Yeah, I think even with how little we like his fit defensively we'd probably do Sabonis for a top 10 protected first, Flynn and Dragic's expiring, but I doubt that gets it done.

Levert for Dragic, Flynn and a pick swap is kind of fun. We get a bench scorer and unless we move up in the lotto again it's probably fine. Indy saves 18M next year and gets a PG prospect they could use with McConnell's injury and Brogdon being the backup 2 guard for Duarte anyways in a perfect world.

Ultimately, OG is a guy who's going to lead the defence in crunch time in the playoffs while hitting 40% from 3 and flashing a steadily improving mid-range game. Is Sabonis even going to play in crunch time in the playoffs?

It's just hard for me to see Sabonis being a player who helps his team win, whereas it's very easy to see how OG contributes. OG can even defend opposing Cs. As you say, he's the more impactful player in a big guard/power SF oriented league. I'd only include him (and not much more) as part of trade for an SGA-level talent.

I would consider going back to the well(The Kings) to rebuild our bench.
They have a few pieces that would fit this teams needs and a front office that still lacks competence.

Dragic for Terrence Ross, Robin Lopez and Indiana's 2nd rounder would open up cap space for the Magic. If you figure they'll lock up Bamba for about 13M a year let's say, this deal would take them from about 18M in cap space to a nice 28M they could then offer Miles Bridges the max. We get a 2nd rounder that they don't really miss since they will have 2 rookies with their own top 5 pick and then one in the low 30s and we get Ross back as a bench shooter and 1 year expiring to try to move for a center most likely.

On another note, Tyus Jones is having a bit of a breakout year and he's a UFA stuck behind Morant. I wonder if they'd consider Flynn and a 2nd rounder for him. Be nice to have an actual backup PG to run the show and at 25 he's got upside.

players I dont neccessarily love but might be interesting targets for the Raps (if they are available & cheap):

Mo Bamba, Robert Williams, Tyrese Haliburton

I would also probably put out our best Simmons trade offer together that doesnt include Barnes/OG

This is a trade that somehow makes our team’s bench worse if that is even possible. But Yuta and Svi(player option) are both expiring.
Yuta, Svi to Utah for Azabuike, Jared Butler and a 2022 2nd (Memphis)

This gives us a couple flyers under cheap contract for next year and a 2nd which tend to work out well for us.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Last time we went to the well with the Kings they thought they were actually improving themselves by landing the perceived "best player in the deal" in Rudy Gay. It just happened to work out really really well for us.

Who are you thinking and what do you think it will cost?

Washington gets: Dragic and Boucher
Toronto gets: Bertans and Thomas Bryant

Washington makes a push but frees up money next summer and get 2 players. Toronto takes on the financial commitment to the 1-dimensional shooter but gets a friend of OG that can play C if re-signed.

Fit wise its interesting but it becomes challenging against the cap.

Beyond this season Bertans is due 16/17/16

Bryant is an UFA where we would only carry early bird rights which isn't the end of the world but assuming you keep him for lets say the same 8m he is currently making we add 24m to the books which gets us 134m in salary which is either over or close to the tax before accounting for our FRP or any other signings.

Given that Bertains has forgot how to shoot this season I would imagine there would have to be a fairly significant asset attached to his contract to get him off the books for an expiring like Dragic.
