Yeah this is an interesting one to me.

I've seen the Dumars quote saying that pretty much since they picked Fears at 7 they were working to get back into the lottery. Now, does that mean they approached each team with the same offer? Impossible to know. Did they panic and up their offer as the draft went on, what intel did they have about teams in the 15-17 (all picked centers).

IMO that 2026 pick was offered to everyone starting from pick 9 and Atlanta @13 was the first to say yes. Otherwise if teams keep saying no and Queen comes off the board then Dumars instructed his staff to keep that 2026 pick. That’s how I understand the Dumars quote.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted Kalkbrenner, and Broome was the backup option. The fact that Reynaud was t the pick suggest that they wanted a defensive presence more than offense.
