Detroit has traded Ben Gordon and a protected future first-round pick to Charlotte for Corey Maggette, league sources tell Y! Sports.

It's a "future protected 1st". That could be a top 20 protected pick four years from now or it could be a top 5 protected pick next year. Who knows what the pick could be? Just gotta wait to find out the details.

OK, so the pick we just got in the Maggette-Gordon trade is lotto-protected in 2013, top 8 protected in 2014, top 1 protected in 2015 and then unprotected in 2016.

So it's pretty much a late lottery pick in 2014. Do we trade it for a pick in this draft or keep it?

FWIW:

Charlotte sports radio host.

@marcjames NBA Source just told me the Bobcats will probably trade the 2nd pick. This is gonna be an Exhilirating 48 hours for Charlotte.

The hangup is that Charlotte, not in love with anyone available at No. 2, wants Cleveland's 24th pick. Cleveland also has had conversations with Sacramento (No. 5) and Golden State (No. 7), but the Charlotte deal makes the most sense and sources say there is enough momentum and desire on both sides to get it done. The Bobcats like Robinson and Barnes, and at least one of them will be available at No. 4; if Cleveland got Beal with the second pick, Washington might take Barnes at No. 3, sources said."

I'm not so sure how much stock I would put in Marc James' reporting. Haha. But I would actually be surprised if we didn't trade 2 with Cleveland, or for something.

The way to go in my opinion:

Trade the 2 for the 3 and assets. Then trade the 3 for 4 and assets. We move down two spots in a draft where the 2-6 are all pretty much equal, and we get assets from two desperate teams.

Hell, we could even trade the 4 to Portland for #6 and assets.

Now that we have traded for Gordon it's looking less likely that we are drafting Beal (which is a bit disappointing). But now that that trade went through it makes sense to trade back now.

Take TRob at 4 and hope Quincy Miller falls to 24.

I wonder if Portland has any interest in Beal. Don't they have 6 and 11?

Evidently Billy King has offered this to Cho

2 first round picks, Marshon Brooks, Anthony morrow for the #2 pick, as well as taking back a terrible contract.

No thanks, I still want a good player from this draft.

I think Brooks is overated.
