Re: Suns Offseason Thread 3: Spurned for the Spurs
I'm surprised Markieff has this many defenders.
I don't care about the court case, he and his brother beat some guy down who was talking about their mother... whatever. His activities on the court are enough for me to be fine with shipping him off. He is soft, he plays stupid, he does not rebound, he hurts ball movement, he is not a good fit with a slash and dish offense because he isn't good from deep, good in the pick and roll or good at catch and shooting. He is also, at best, a below average defender.
I'm not saying dump him for nothing but trading him for a guy like Anderson would make us better next season, because I think Anderson is a much better fit in the offense, and we'd gain a lot of flexibility for next summer. I'd push for New Orleans (or a 3rd party that is taking Markieff instead) for a little more value but if Anderson in a straight up swap is the best we can do, I'm okay with that.

*water cooler talk*
The surpise name that I heard linked to the Suns today was... Joe Johnson
1) the proven shooting guard they're looking for
2) expiring 24 mil contract
3 ) true scorer
4) another ball handler
Not sure how truthful these are. Just wanted to pass that info.
( I didn't hear players names attached to these rumors)

Wow, that is crazy, but it could also be kind of fun. He is the one player I still can't believe we got away due to stupidity the previous offseason.
Part of me wants to say "too old, declining, etc" but he checks almost every box we need (3 pt shooting, solid vet, etc) if we are determined to compete, and if Booker isn't ready (not sure if Archie ever will be) then that guard rotation would be extremely solid and he could hold down the fort until Booker was ready.

Re: Suns Offseason Thread 3: Spurned for the Spurs
If you can use your remaining cap space to get Ryan Anderson, you do it. that at least covers your PF depth with a rotation of Anderson/Markieff.
Then, if Markieff doesn't like coming off the bench, you can flip him for any number of PF replacements:
- Taj Gibson
- Cody Zeller
- Terrence Jones
- Pat Patterson
You've utilised your expiring cap space and filled your hole at PF.

I don't get this. We just signed Knight long term to be our starting 2 guard. Unless this is contingent on another trade?
Maybe our FO really doesn't like next year's draft class and they want to go all in on this season without committing long term? Who knows
Appreciate the info

I remember last season I mentioned idea of the Suns trading for Joe Johnson and I was vilified for it.

Have no idea how we'd do that while making salaries work.
Tucker, Markieff and cap space for JJ? I don't even think that's enough $$.

Agreed. McD needs to give up some sort of long term asset for a guy who can help us compete for a playoff spot now.
Babby is gone and his tenure was a disaster. If McD and Hornacek dont make a playoff run Horny is gone and McD starts to looks like another bad Babby decision.

Joe Johnson and Amare? Where's QRich at? We're getting the band back together!
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I would take millsap over markieff. Honestly I don't give a damn about "good contract" crap. If that's your only argument as to why you keep him, you don't have an argument. Keeping a player because he "has a good contract" is exactly why bad teams don't improve.
What exactly does Millsap do incredibly better than Markieff?
I swear, people on this board just loath anyone in a Suns jersey.
Come on man, you know this ridiculous. I don't share sundeuce's point of view that we should trade Kieff just to dump him (as I said before I wanna see how he behaves without his brother and with Tyson Chandler beating his ass if he screws around) but this is just ridiculous.
You seriously think Markieff is same as or better than Millsap? You wouldn't find many non Suns fan and even many Suns at that who would actually take Kieff over Millsap.
As for your last line, Sundeuce should have came back with "I swear, people on this board just think every player in a Suns jersey is better than All Star players at that same position".

He's too much like Patterson. Morris is a great shooter (50.31% 8-16 feet is 2nd highest for a PF in the league under only Ppat) and 40% 16-24 feet to go along with 31% from 3. No question he's a good shooter and a good fit in that sense, but he's a terrible rebounder. Only 6.2/game, but more importantly he gets 56.5% of his chances at the rebound which is average but an atrocious 36% contested rebound %. He wouldn't help our problem for defensive rebounding infact he would make it worse. Also, he is a defensive liability. He gets good steal numbers (1.2/game) but allows 52.4% FG% at the rim to go along with only .5 BPG. He is a poor fit next to Val defensively which would overall make our frontcourt unsustainable defensively. Not a good fit at all.
Haha I was just about to copy and paste that same post. Its not only interesting, I think its very accurate.
Any team that has Kieff starting isn't gonna be a contender. Maybe borderline playoff team that's it.
But that's why we need to make him play the Lamar Odom role and have him be the 6th man off the bench like in '13-'14 when we ALL liked him.

I said you were bats**t crazy then and I still say you're bats**t crazy now. Unless he plays the 3, I don't see how this fits at all.

Reread that conversation before jumping in. I would take Kieff's production at $8 million over Millsap's at $20 million and not lose one night of sleep. Millsap does not improve us enough.

How would that work financially? We'd have to trade Bledsoe and fillers to get close to that salary plus our cap space. I just don't know how that will work.
