Ali Farokhmanesh hit another big 3-pointer with 34 seconds left and Northern Iowa pulled off the biggest upset in the NCAA tournament, beating top overall seed Kansas 69-67 in the second round on Saturday.

Northern Iowa (30-4) won the tempo tug-of-war, grounding the high-flying Jayhawks with in-their-jersey defense, then withstood a furious rally to become the first team to beat a No. 1 seed in the second round since UAB and Alabama did it to Kentucky and Stanford in 2004.

Kansas (33-3) trailed nearly the entire game, finally pulling close in the closing minutes behind its fullcourt pressure. The Jayhawks never made it all the way back, though, bowing out early in what was supposed to be another title run.

-- LaceDarius Dunn scored 26 points and No. 3 seed Baylor beat 11th-seeded Old Dominion 76-68 on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

The Bears squandered a 14-point first-half lead but went on a late 8-0 run to pull away. Baylor (27-7) now heads back to its home state to play No. 10 seed Saint Mary's in Houston in the South Regional semifinals.

Old Dominion (27-9) rallied and pulled ahead in the second half, but the Bears received a big lift from 7-footer Josh Lomers, who tied a career high with 14 points, 12 in the second half.

Quincy Pondexter scored 18 points, Isaiah Thomas added 15 and 11th-seeded Washington extended its incredible late-season roll all the way to the NCAA tournament's regional semifinals with an 82-64 second-round victory over New Mexico on Saturday.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Huskies (26-9), who have won nine straight, including the Pac-10 tournament and wins over two higher-seeded opponents in the East Regional at the Shark Tank.

After a rocky season that seemed headed nowhere in late January, the Huskies are the epitome of a talented team peaking at tournament time. Washington began the season in the national rankings, but slumped badly before this stellar surge.

Pistons-Cavaliers Preview
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers may be on the verge of a rare sweep of the Detroit Pistons, but the wins haven't come easily. James and the Cavaliers look to complete their first season sweep of the visiting Pistons in 30 years when the Central Division rivals meet Sunday night. Cleveland (55-15) last swept Detroit (23-46) when it went 6-0 in 1979-80. The Cavaliers have won 10 straight against the Pistons, including last year's first-round playoff series. James is averaging 34.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 8.3 assists in three victories this season, but Cleveland has trailed after three quarters in the last two this month. He was the catalyst in a 38-point fourth quarter in Tuesday's 113-101 win at Detroit. "We have a lot of history with this team," James told the NBA's official Web site. There were 10 lead changes and 21 ties, the last one with 4:44 left. James had 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists for his fourth triple-double of the season, getting 15 points and four assists in the final period. "The guy's not human," Detroit guard Will Bynum said. "When he gets rolling, you just want to try to stop his teammates and hope that's enough."

Cleveland extended its win streak to six Friday with a 92-85 victory at Chicago. James had 29 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists and became the youngest player to score 15,000 points, breaking Kobe Bryant's mark by more than two years. James reached the milestone at 25 years, 79 days, and did it in his 540th game. Bryant was 27 years, 136 days and playing his 657th game. "I was born with a God-given gift," James said. "I take full advantage of it by being able to do what I do on the basketball court. Hopefully, I can continue to stay healthy, and hopefully, I'll continue to break records." Cleveland overcame 41.3 percent shooting - its lowest mark in 14 games. Mo Williams added 18 points and Jawad Williams had 10 off the bench. "Tonight we couldn't find our rhythm offensively," James said. "We were executing alright, but just missed some easy shots. That's what allowed them to stay in the game."

The Cavaliers will see a different Detroit team than they faced Tuesday since Rodney Stuckey returned in Friday's 106-102 loss at Indiana. Stuckey scored 25 points in nearly 27 minutes in his first action since collapsing on the bench March 5 in a 99-92 loss at Cleveland. "The plan wasn't to play all those minutes, but I mean it was just in the heat of the game," Stuckey said. "I've been working out. After this happened, I took a couple of days off, but after that I've just been working out. I feel fine." Detroit, which has lost nine straight on the road, rallied from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to take the lead with 2:51 left. Ben Gordon added 17 points and rookie DaJuan Summers had 12. "I thought our guys in the second half played the way they're supposed to. We defended and played hard," coach John Kuester said.

Jacob Pullen scored 20 of his career-high 34 points in the first half to help dig No. 2 seed Kansas State out of an early 10-point hole, and the Wildcats turned away Jimmer Fredette and BYU 84-72 on Saturday night in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Pullen came alive with a scoring flurry shortly after he and Fredette got tangled up in transition in the first half, and K-State (28-7) wouldn't trail again in earning its first round of 16 appearance since 1988. Pullen surpassed 30 points for the third time in his career and helped seal the victory with a 3-pointer and six free throws down the stretch. Equally as important as his scoring was his physical defense against Fredette, who had scored 37 points to get the seventh-seeded Cougars (30-6) past Florida in double overtime in the first round.

Fredette finished with 21 points on 4-of-13 shooting.

Bynum to be re-evaluated next week
Andrew Bynum saw a foot specialist Saturday and an MRI confirmed the center has a strained left Achilles tendon.

There is no tear of the tendon. Bynum will be re-evaluated in a week. "These are the type of things that look like they're going to take some time," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "We're just hoping that the time is not extended."

Bynum could not walk on the foot without the assistance of a boot when he woke up Saturday morning, according to Jackson.

Bosh did that and more, scoring 23 of his 36 points in the second half and the Raptors kept the Nets on the road to an NBA single-season record for losses with a 100-90 victory Saturday night.

Bosh was particularly good at getting away from Nets center Brook Lopez (18 points, 13 rebounds) for open jumpers or driving by the defense when they got too close.

"The effort was definitely better, but we're still floating around that 42-minute mark, where we really need to get that effort for 48 minutes," said Nets guard Devin Harris, who scored 22 points in his return from a respiratory illness that sidelined him two games. "We played well in the first half, but in the third quarter they came out very aggressive. Bosh got going and it carried them through the game."

Pistons center Ben Wallace to miss game Sunday against Cavaliers
Detroit Pistons center Ben Wallace didn't quite make it through an entire game after missing eight games with a right patella tendon strain.

Wallace will not play Sunday when the Pistons play at Cleveland. Wallace injured his knees Friday night during a 106-102 loss to the Indiana Pacers and left the game in the fourth quarter.

Wallace had one point, seven rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot Friday night, and Pistons coach John Kuester had good things to say about the way he played. “He had done a great job defensively getting us extra possessions and was really cleaning up the boards,” Kuester said.

Even with Andrew Bogut ineffective and in foul trouble, the Milwaukee Bucks secured their signature road victory, beating the Denver Nuggets 102-97 on Saturday night.

Carlos Delfino had 26 points, and John Salmons added 21 to make up for Bogut's off-night as the Bucks won even though they didn't reach their hotel until 3 a.m. following a double-overtime win at Sacramento.

Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups each scored 29 points for Denver, but Anthony missed a series of shots in the final minutes when the Nuggets were desperately trying to catch up.

Pistons say work in weight room will be worth it for rookie forward Austin Daye
Austin Daye has a personality that should be in broadcasting and a body that needs to be in the weight room. When he is not on the court, the Detroit Pistons rookie forward, who redefines "slender" with his 6-foot-11, 200-pound frame, spends a bit of time in front of the camera and a lot of time lifting weights. His workout partner is Ben Wallace. “Different weights, though,” Pistons coach John Kuester said, smiling. “Different level weights.” No doubt about that. After all, Wallace, 35, is known as one of the strongest players in the NBA. Daye, 21, is known as a rookie with a sweet shooting stroke who needs to add muscle if he wants to have a successful NBA career. Daye could dress up for Halloween as a mailing tube. Seriously, Wallace could use him as a toothpick. So what is it like to work out with Big Ben? “It's not easy,” said Daye, who referred to his sessions with Wallace as “jailhouse workouts.” Daye said he lifts with Wallace regularly after practice and hit the weight room after every game when he went through a span of not playing much in the middle of the season. “That's something I definitely want to keep in my regimen,” said Daye, who added he has put on seven pounds this season. The Pistons say that regimen is the key to his development.“Austin’s strength and conditioning will dictate his progress,” Pistons president Joe Dumars told Pistons.com last week. “Austin has an exceptional basketball IQ. Austin has definite NBA skill -- surely offensively. I think he has length, that he can be an adequate defender. But all of those things are dependent on his conditioning and his strength.”

Kuester agreed. “He's somebody that cannot just sit back and think that his improvement as a basketball player is going to be only on the basketball court,” Kuester said. “He has to work off the court as well, and that's one of the things I think he's really done.” Daye, the 15th pick in the 2009 draft, is averaging 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds while playing limited minutes. He saw plenty of playing time early in the season, when the Pistons were decimated by injuries, then hardly played for a lengthy span once Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon returned to the lineup. Daye had a career-high 16 points in a Jan. 18 loss to New York, then grabbed a career-high eight rebounds two days later in a win against Boston. He has been on the court regularly as of late: Daye has played in nine of 10 games in March after playing in just six of 13 in February. In addition to working out with Wallace, Daye contributes to the Pistons off the court. The Pistons have featured Daye on the scoreboard at The Palace in a feature called “Daye Walking,” a takeoff of the popular “Jaywalking” feature on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In it, Daye walks around public places in and around Detroit and asks people trivia questions, most of them involving the Pistons. Daye's sense of humor makes “Daye Walking” one of the most popular features for fans at Pistons home games. “It's something that I want to do after basketball,” Daye said of broadcasting. “Something like Jalen Rose and Chris Webber and Charles Barkley and all those guys. It's something that would be so fun to do and still be involved with your sport.”

Eli Zaret, a longtime Detroit sports television personality who works for the Pistons, said Daye is a natural in front of the camera. “Austin's part of a generation that grew up with a video camera in their face,” Zaret said. “He's somebody who likes it. He obviously likes to act, and there is a little acting involved in it. “He's a performer. He likes engaging people. He has a presence.” Daye said his favorite “Daye Walking” exchange took place when he asked a woman which former Pistons player is the mayor of a city in Michigan. The answer, obviously, is Dave Bing, the mayor of Detroit. “She said 'Kwame,' ” Daye said. “That was pretty funny.” It's unclear whether she was referring to Kwame Kilpatrick or Kwame Brown, but either way, she was a bit off. In one clip, no one can name the person who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. (Last name: Obama.) But everyone can name the sea creature who lives in a pineapple. (Last name: Squarepants). Then there was the woman who answered the question, “Who's the greatest Pistons player ever to come from the University of Gonzaga?” She answered: “Darko.” “That,” Daye said, “was horrible.” Darko Milicic came out of Novi Sad, Serbia. Austin Daye played two seasons for the Zags -- and likely many more than that for the Pistons. Especially if he sticks with Wallace and the weights.

Signing Carlos Boozer won't be easy for Pistons
The next block in the Pistons' rebuilding project probably will come in June's NBA draft, considering they seem destined for a lottery pick. And while there would be considerable interest in a potential top-five pick, the true intrigue will be the various options the Pistons could pursue when free agency begins this summer. But one potential option -- a possible deal involving unrestricted free agent Jazz power forward Carlos Boozer -- appears unlikely. Obviously a center in the form of Kentucky big man DeMarcus Cousins would alleviate some of the need for frontcourt help, but with the capricious whims of the lottery, there is no guarantee the Pistons will get so lucky. So the hunt for a big man could extend into the summer -- and there are several reasons why the Boozer-to-Detroit speculation isn't far-fetched.

The Pistons have shown interest in Boozer before. Last summer Boozer reportedly was telling confidants that he was headed either to Detroit or New Jersey. That talk might have been sparked by the fact the Pistons and the Nets had lots of cap space and could afford his asking price. But when it became clear he couldn't match on the open market the $12.6 million he will make this season, he quickly decided against opting out of the final year of his deal and stayed in Utah. From his public comments, you could tell Boozer was unhappy in Salt Lake City. But it's funny how time -- and a lot of wins -- can change things. The Jazz is battling for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs in the Western Conference, and some are proclaiming Utah a dark horse to reach the NBA Finals. So it wasn't surprising to read reports last week that Boozer said he is open to re-signing with the Jazz when he hits the market this summer.

One thing is certain -- the Jazz won't overpay for Boozer, who also said he will explore all of his options and thus could draw interest from the Pistons. The main obstacle facing the Pistons is that they won't have the cap room to sign Boozer. So they would have to work a sign-and-trade deal with the Jazz, which technically could benefit all parties: The Pistons get Boozer, he gets a maximum deal, and the Jazz would get something instead of Boozer just walking. But the Jazz might not be interested in any of the current Pistons making enough cash to make a deal work. Who knows whether that will change, especially considering Tayshaun Prince is playing very well, and his expiring deal could offer future financial flexibility. The Pistons say they have options on the table, but let's just say Boozer has a long walk to that table.
