Lakers went and tried to cover as many holes on their roster as possible. Meanwhile the Mavs, whilst I still love the Kyrie trade, went and just completely ignored the 2 biggest issues we've had all season... it's really quite puzzling.

I think Dallas did fill a hole with Kyrie. Given the limited assets they had they needed to find a 2nd All Star for Luka and someone to run the show when he rests and getting Kyrie was way better then we ever thought they were going to do in that department. I think the mistake was to not make a 2nd trade at the deadline for fill the holes of defender and rim protector/rebounder.

Mavs didn't have SRPs to trade, they wasted them for bad trade past years. This was the big problem.

These playoffs are just raising my frustrations again.

After watching Suns fold like a chair against the LAC (without PG13), makes me wonder even more what Mavs team could have become if they had any better centers than Boban in that 7 series. Or at least if they didn't fumble almost every trade that they tried to make after. Yet they still got to WCF and then FO again found a way to somehow screw up the next season :banghead:

Mavs are in a VERY desperate need of at least 2 athletic big guys who are capable defenders and rebounders.

I think the Mavs could trade expiring contract for Gobert without any picks involved. -28 against Nuggets is very real reflection on Gobert's effectiveness. If the Mavs trade for Gobert with Hardaway (EXP) and Bertans (Dust Chip), then the Mavs could make a run at FVV. Draft Dick. Start Hardy. Extend Green for 3-5M. Get Thybulle. Let all FAs walk. This team starts to click. Switch to zone defense. Sign a European coach.

The game is not being paid the same way the Legends does. It takes a bright mind to adjust against every opponents. A poor and irresponsible leader couldn't cut it. The management should not be handled like a business. It's not all about relationship but effectiveness. The culture just ain't right. It takes a coach like Neille to boot. Build around rookies instead of overpaying FA who don't want to come at all.

This is what the Timberwolves traded for Gobert. I don't think he has dropped to worthless in one year.

• Malik Beasley
• Patrick Beverley
• Leandro Bolmaro
• Walker Kessler (No. 22 pick in 2022 Draft)
• Jarred Vanderbilt
• 2023 first-round pick
• 2025 first-round pick
• 2026 pick swap
• 2027 first-round pick
• 2029 first-round pick

Yea the fumbling of 2nd round picks in years past really set us back. Traded multiple 2nds for Delon Wright, foolish. Traded multiple 2nds to essentially get rid of Wright, craziness. Traded 2nds for JJ Reddick who only wanted to go East, idiotic. Traded a 2nd in the KP trade with Washington, I cant think of a word without using profanity.

Those trades cost us the opportunity for several guys this past deadline.

Yes but if Cuban always trades 2RPs for youtuber like jjredick or for dump players we will never have some of those picks for bargains like Vanderbilt or Rui.

I heard some talking head on the radio the other day talking about the type of defense the Mavs want to play. According to them Kidd prefers to play a switching type of defense where almost any position is able to guard and switch on to any player. He doesn’t prefer to have a defensive anchor in the paint. He prefers centers like Maxi that can switch on to someone on the perimeter but also is able to somewhat guard the paint.

Fans seem to want a more traditional center where the perimeter guys funnel their man towards the center. If Luka and Kyrie were plus defenders the switching style would be perfect. The problem is they’re not plus defenders. So when their man blows by them there is no one to meet them in the paint. Kidd, Nico, and Cuban need to figure out what type of defense best fits this team and personnel.

If Cleveland flames out to NY, do they consider moving Mobley to C and getting a stretch 4 to allow for more driving lanes for their guards? Someone like........potential #10 pick Taylor Hendricks? Garland's extension is kicking, Mitchell's supermax in a few years and eventually Mobley as well. Doubtful CLE is going to be able to afford all 4 of these guys on such large contracts. Something like the following:

DAL Receives: J. Allen
CLE Receives: Maxi + Bullock + #10 pick

DAL gets their starting C for years to come. Low usage guy that can finish and defend at a very high level. Lineup as follows:

Luka/Hardy
Kyrie/THJ
Green/BAE
MLE/Vet Min
J. Allen/Powell/McGee

CLE gets 2 solid rotation players that fit really well with their core. They then draft someone like Hendricks with the 10th pick. Their lineup then becomes far more balanced:

Garland/Rubio
Mitchell/Okoro/Levert?
Bullock/Osman
Hendricks/Wade
Mobley/Kleber/R. Lopez

That kind of lineup looks far more fitting for the modern NBA then their current lineup.

Just an idea outside of the normal names that are tossed around here. I can see Allen netting potentially more from elsewhere TBH.

Would be perfect target, though I don't see Cle doing it. I dont think they'll lose to NYK and Jafro is a stud. Though at some point, they do have to factor in contracts and if Mobley is a PF or C. And Mobley is the future and one to keep if it comes to one having to go.

Yea I don’t see Cleveland letting Allen go. Especially not after trading for Mitchell. They are in win now mode and letting go of an elite defensive center wouldn’t be the best thing for them.

What does everyone think of Mitchell Robinson from NY? He seemed to be unhappy with the minutes he was getting about a month ago. His contract is reasonable. Seems like he’s be a good fit here if you ask me.

Regardless of what happened with Gobert and his teammate the Wolves are not just going to dump him for cheap, not considering what they paid to get him just less than a year ago. I don’t see Gobert as a realistic option for the Mavs.

In order to get Dinwiddie Mavs ON TOP of trading their "2nd star", actually had to pay EXTRA with that draft pick. And not only that, in return they got Bertans on a seriously horrible contract which Wizards FO and fans couldn't wait to get rid of.

In any other serious business world, this deal would have been labeled as an absolute steal or some would say crime and heads would roll. The incompetence of this FO is beyond belief.

Yep, more talent = win for this team. But they want to compete now, can even talented rookies help this team enough? With Kyrie at 31yo, you pretty much don't have a lot of room to "grow". That's why i think they'll use their pick in a more significant trade.

Expanding on previous ideas to make them more feasible.

Dal Out: Bullock/ Hardy/ Bertans/ 10/ 27 1st
Dal In: OG/ Capela
Adds elite wing defender, elite rebounding, and good interior defense.

Toronto In: Bertans/ Hardy/ 10
Toronto Out: OG
Gets 10 and Hardy for OG's expiring.

Atlanta In: Bullock/ 27 1st
Atlanta Out: Capela
Saves tax, make room for Okongwu, and gets a 1st.

Jalen McDaniels( still like Thybulle and Naz Reid as well) for the MLE and Bates Diop for the BAE.

Luka/ Vet Min
Kyrie/ THJ
Green/ Bates Diop
OG / McDaniels
Capela/ Kleber/ Powell

We can find a good veteran point guard this would make us a team that is 10 deep with elite scoring and solid defense. If Green makes another improvement like he has the past 2 years he will be 14-5-3 with good defense. McDaniels and Bates Diop would make us bigger and stronger on the wings.

Yeah like I said I still love the Kyrie trade and would do it again in a heartbeat. But our frontcourt killed us last playoffs, we did **** all in the summer and then **** all all season long to fix it...

Let alone we'd have pretty much the entirely salary cap spent on 3 players in that scenario.

My theory is... what you explained, Kidd doesn't want a traditional defensive anchor (involving good assets) that's why they thought that Wood could work at first... since he "fits" the role... like a more athletic Powell , mobile and long ... and Javare as a traditional center in specific minutes ... was very happy with the defense we were playing late in the regular season last year...the DFS/Reggie setback this year(we burned them for having no backup) added to the frontcourt botch..brought us here... I'm convinced (and launched half a dozen trades) that Claxton (that interchangeable profile, super athletic.. Bam/Vanderbilt/Clarke... etc) would do wonders for us... make
Mcgee/#10/Mavs27(Unprotected) for Claxton+#22 ..in the blink of an eye..
