Besides...if you only traded players you didn't like, no good player would ever be traded. It's not a matter of Thad not being solid...it's a matter of building the team and using your resources wisely

I sort of agree with emptygator. With all of the talk about Thad "coming back this year with a vengeance" from Stefanski and Collins, I'd actually be surprised if we traded him tonight. I'm not saying its not possible, but if we had our heart set on using him as trade bait to acquire a big man, I don't think they would be selling Thad to the fans like they have as a major part of our team going forward. That said, stranger things have happened.
I just think its Evan Turner tonight and then possibly a late 1st or 2nd rounder for a project big. We'll find out soon!

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Draft Thread (Update Pg. 49)
It sounds like Udoh and Monroe will likely be gone by 9 and definitely by 13. Ed Davis does nothing for me. I'd prefer Aldritch, Patterson or Henry in that area.
Thad's lost year last season came at a very bad time for him and the team with his contract being up next summer. As someone noted, waiting until the deadline diminsihes his value as a rental player who would be joining a team mid season without a training camp in their system and the acquiring team needing to decide whether to re-sign him as an RFA based on a small and poor quality sample size. Similarly the Sixers are left with one year for him to make all of the improvements we expected to see last year in his shooting, D and board work.
Lou is just as tradeable this trade deadline or next summer as he is now (unless he loses a lot of minutes) and they have two years to make a decision on Speights. The addition of Hawes now gives the team three potential RFA's in Young, Hawes and Smith whom they need to evaluate before next summer.

they bashed Iverson before they traded him, which diminishs Iverson's trade value. I don't think Stefanski or Collins are dumb enough to repeat such mistake with Thad Young.

If i was the gm...I would try to get a pick later in the first round and take a flier on hassan whiteside. We wouldn't give have to give up a talent like thad, and we would be getting a project center who I consider having the best or second best physical tools at the position in the draft.

Any interest in moving the #9 for Perkins?

Kendrick Perkins? Yeah... I'd do that in half a second. Actually, he hurt his knee in Game 6 of the Finals. Any word on what his recovery time is going to look like?

If the 76ers acquire 9, I hope they don't use the pick on Aldrich or Udoh. Use the pick on Monroe, Sanders or Patterson in that order. Buy a 2nd round pick and take Jordan.

I don't think 76ers will trade Thaddeus for a center like Aldrich or Udoh, but the rumor is true, a few weeks ago people from the Sixers told me that Jazz will try to make a trade for Thaddeus or Iguodala.

I can see Thad going to Utah, but Not Iggy. I need a 4-5 pick for Iggy, unless Cousins falls to 6, then I would still jump in.

What the **** is this board's fascination with JEROME JORDAN. He will never ever ever ever EVER be more than a backup. I would have never even known he was in the draft if it wasn't for this ONE board that constantly mentions wanting to draft this guy. Is it because Sixerfan mentioned that we like him? I bet it is. We need a STARTING center, not a backup. Because Brand is a smaller guy and not the best post defender himself, we need a big, tough center like Cole Aldrich, that's why we should be enamored with him. Cole would take a dump on Jerome Jordan if those two matched up. Two other guys I like that would be somewhat easy to grab if we just gave up Thad would be Larry Sander and Jarvis Varnado. And if you REALLY wanna take flyers on some guys, watch out for players that were really really good coming out of high school but didn't fit in with the college team they picked like Derrick Caracter, Tiny Gallon and Samardo Samuels. All three of those guys I believe have chances to actually become starters in the NBA and will be drafted right around the same time as Jordan.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Draft Thread (Update Pg. 49)
I really find it interesting that not only on our board, but on others, almost everybody overvalues their own players. Reading the comments I have about Thad and Iguodala I would swear we won 50 games last year. Remember the stats that Rashard Lewis put up his last year in Seattle (22 ppg/7 rpg)? He would do nothing close to that (and has done nothing close to that) on a contending team in Orlando.
I have no doubt that Thad could be an 18 to 20 ppg guy in this league, but I really question what the win-loss record of that squad would be. I see no alpha dog in his personality (and yes you can see this in young players) and I do wonder if he will forever not rebound well enough for a typical 4 and lack the ballhandling of a solid 3. He is not a "knockdown" outside shooter, so he's not a stretch 4 either. This deal, if it happens, is not a bad one provided we let Dileo truly pick the BPA, which might not be Aldrich.

I put this in the nba draft thread..but I will put it here as well.
My prediction for tonight:
Turner and Jerome Jordan
I think Thad stays tonight but gets moved post July 1......
I have no access to my buddy til after the draft.
Still debating going to draft party or watching at home..if i watch from home ..I will hang out tonight on this board or DBod's board.

My friends and I opted to stay home. I only live 4 blocks from the Center, but we figured if it was lame, we'd miss a bunch of picks by leaving and going back to my place anyway.
Besides....food's always better at my place anyway. Hahaha

That is probably me.
You probably have never seen Jordan. He plays good D, can rebound, very good shot blocker, his offensive game is better than what you think, he is a legit 7'0 foot, has a huge wingspan. Only problem is he isn't tough. I rather have him over Aldrich because Aldrich is going to take a Top 10 pick. Jordan is going to take a 2nd Round pick.
Jarvis Varnado is the smaller version of Jordan. So if you like Varnado, you should like Jordan. They also went one-on-one, and Varnado struggled against him.
I started talking about him before SF76 said we might get him.
As for the trade scenarios SF posted...I like the Memphis trade better just because I like Haddadi over Koufos. But I don't think we can get Aldrich at 13. So if we move for Aldrich it will have to be at 9.
I don't think anything happens, maybe a 2nd round pick, but we'll see.

I'm tired of the safe moves that help the team be competitive, but not give them a shot at a title. They need to make boom or bust moves. Taking Aldrich does nothing in respect to winning a championship. They need high upside players liek Ed Davis. If they take Aldrich over Davis I will be pissed. I don't care about getting the 6 seed for the next 5 years, I'd rather be in the lottery for the next 3 years, and then make a move to be a title contender. You can't go from 0 to 60 at once. You need to build the team the right way. Kind of the way Presti is doing it in Oklahoma City.

he couldnt even dominate the ACC and now hes expected to be a top 10 pick???

1- The combination of Turner, a more experienced Holiday, and Doug Collins on the sidelines means that you're going back to the lottery in the near future.
2- I'm all for boom or bust type moves right now BUT if the team drafts Ed Davis, I'll be pissed. If we want a lanky PF from UNC who won't amount to much in the NBA... just trade a top 55 protected pick to GSW for Brandan Wright.

Varnado is one of the best shot blockers of all time in college basketball. He is a PF though, so he will probably struggle when he's playing against legit centers in the NBA. Thats why it will be nice for a team to have him come off the bench as a PF and dominate defensively
