Options to fix the PF hole

Post#781 » by Andi Obst » Sat Jan 8, 2022 6:24 pm

Watching Boogie now just makes me sad. The dude basically cannot jump at all and can still put up numbers. Such a talented guy, but injuries destroyed him. He’s completely unplayable on defense.

On a related note, this thread is full of players who wouldn’t play one second as a forward for the Bulls. You just won’t be able to defend the way the Bulls do with guys like Olynyk at the 4. And he’s too expensive for a backup center.

I still think the best option for this is to get Jarred Vanderbilt from Minnesota, ideally into the TPE.

Would check all the boxes in terms of what we need somebody in this spot..I truly believe Vanderbilt would look like a stud on this team just asked to defend, rebound, and finish. But if we could arrange a deal to get him into the TPE then we can preserve the chemistry of a roster that has worked a lot better than even the most optimistic among us could have hoped.

I think it would be worth including the 1st rounder from Portland. Vanderbilt is signed for 3 years at $4-4.6m, basically a rookie deal without the risk of busting.

Small move with massive impact, really hoping this comes to fruition but haven’t seen any smoke about it in any way.

the problem with covington is that his salary demands we give up djj, and unless covington has a major bounceback then that could really easily end up being a downgrade for us before we get into any other assets being included in the trade.

if you go the modest upgrade route, i think you have to go for a cheap guy who can be had for some combo of tbj+minimum salary guys+picks. kenrich williams was a really good shout someone here mentioned the other day; i'd probably be willing to give up the portland pick for him and that should satisfy presti's lust for assets

Cousins should also be brought from a pure quality depth standpoint. We need a couple frontcourt guys that are good enough to contribute to a good team, and he’s that. For the minimum. Do it.

I'm bummed, you're right, and we can't trade DJJ back to POR even if I wanted to.

I think you need to give up any hopes of acquiring Vanderbilt. He's starting for the Wolves and has been off the charts good in terms of defense and rebounding (he's a top 50 player in the NBA when looking at advanced stats like EPM and RAPTOR). Unless Minnesota acquires Ben Simmons (Simmons and Vanderbilt would have problems playing together) I see no chance that Vanderbilt gets moved.

I've suggested Clarke from the beginning, but it looks like he's no longer off the rotation. Just played 28 minutes and produced 15 rebounds and 3 blocks.

“Why would the other team do this?” is a question that gets skipped all too often.

The new lottery odds...I think are kinda working. Maybe the silly play-in too.

There are fewer teams tapping out. You look around the league the last few years and there aren’t as many sellers. That’s what it feels like to me, but maybe I’m wrong.

Guys like Clarke, or Vanderbilt are tough simply due to their teams being good, or trying to compete respectively. Significant need for need trades are hard when both parties are trying to win.

Increasingly I'm thinking we need a backup 4/5. Pat looks like he's coming back this season and gives us that mobile modern PF people are talking about trading him for. I like his fit and upside with the team, so I'd rather just keep him.

What I think may be a problem in the playoffs is Vuc's lack of mobility in some matchups. So I'd like to get an athletic small ball backup C (bigger than DJJr for example) who can also back up the PF position. Bradley would then be relegated to matchups with big true centers.

There's a reason you haven't seen any smoke about it. It's an absolute garbage trade offer from the Bulls and the TWolves front office would laugh AKME off the phone for even proposing it.

Such hostility lol you guys are exhausting

"Still think" is an extension of something I was saying before the season. Is it realistic? Not really, not anymore. I don't think I portrayed in my post I thought this was some sure thing. Just said I would like it.

And to be fair let's not act like Vanderbilt would be "laugh off the phone" levels of untouchable. They have a deep front court, for the right price yeah I think it would be worth a discussion.

Cry about it, all three of you getting bugs in your nose over this little idea :D

Sorry for being rude, but why would a team trade their young, starting PF for a really lousy pick? It makes zero sense.

That could be correct. I would start by adding some other picks, and then in the case that wouldn't work I would give up on the TPE plan and see if there would be players we could add. After Coby's recent play I'm not sure if I would go that far, but Pat? Possibly. I'd definitely be making the call for a player of Vanderbilt's skillset and salary.

An important part of this is that at one point, Minnesota seemed higher on McDaniels than Vanderbilt. If that's not the case anymore then that's too bad. I'd still call

and I can't check on trade checkers due to a date restriction, but that'll be up by the deadline. At least if I select other players on his team with aggregate salaries equal to his individual number value - it works:

Bulls in:
- Julius Randle

Knicks in:
- Patrick Williams
- Coby White
- Troy Brown Jr.
- 1st round pick(s) w/light protection (a la Vuc trade)
Hahaha I love the progression of this post haha

Starts with a denial and into trying to convince everybody else that it's a fun idea and ends with you basically saying "f*** it this is an internet forum screw you if you think this is dumb" hahaha

I remember thinking last year that Randle would have been perfect to pair up with Zach, can't recall if that was pre or post Vuc trade (likely post) but I don't think it would work now on this team.

As constructed with this team I'd be worried about getting Jerami Grant shots so I couldn't imagine how Julius Randle would work.

Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk

Randle isn't a good fit here in that he's most effective as a ball dominant player. He's just an ok defender too.

Not that I could imagine the Knicks trading him, but the guy who'd be a real difference maker for us would be Taj. Dude is still near elite defensively and one of the few guys who could actually do something against Giannis.

I love the idea of Taj.

Anybody think the Knicks (Tibs) let Taj go to ring chase (with the Bulls.) Would AK and BillyD want him? Could we trade for him (say Brown?)

I personally would love it.

Is Taj worth going into the luxury tax for, though? That would make us repeaters next year I believe.
